Well, it historically hasn't been marketed as hard as Final Fantasy, which could be a factor. The localizations completely skipping the Super Nintendo probably didn't help either.
Yes, though in the Zenithian Trilogy it only works in the overworld. Works everywhere in the Erdrick Trilogy. Not sure why they restricted it in Zenithia, but at least it's there.
I'm playing the nes version rn, and the ai is pretty competent and good, aside from it almost NEVER uses buffs and debuffs which is kinda annoying, but i almost never use them anyways so meh.
Especially since Karyl is nearly USELESS if you can't control that party member after all in the NES version that party member under AI tends to spam the INSTANT kill spells on EVERYTHING that's IMMUNE TO it EVERY TURN ie bosses that's why I only played the DS remakes of 4 to 6. That and the original versions of Dragon quest IV to 6 never really had a official English dub of it UNTIL the DS remakes of all 3.

Is this game has horizontal mode on IOS?
Don't think so, no. The whole UI is built around vertical and I didn't see an option to change it from what I remember.
You can move the camera in the DS version. Tbh, I don't mind the lack of party chat, plus I already have the DS version, so.....
Actually, you can move the camera in the mobile version too. I'm sure the controls are smoother on the DS though.

Buffs are so good though. But doesn't it get boring having so little control?

That too but the 2 Dragon quest Hero's games I have no interest in playing either one of them.
