Hey Teddy - loved your videos as I've gotten into the hobby. I did want to throw out a quick point on your newer studio setup that could be helpful. Right now your background is pretty overexposed. I'd recommend lowering your ISO or putting an ND filter on the lens to match the exposure to the outside light. Then I'd turn up your studio light(s) or invest in a something with a more powerful output (2x Aputure 300D, a single 600, or even some Godox VL300's) to step this up to the next level. Great video, Teddy! I personally am saving for a Tudor Black Bay Chrono. I love the history of the brand and agree that is a great value proposition rocking the modified B01 movement. Love all the content coming out. Have a great weekend!
Talking about chronograph, yeah, the Speedmaster might be iconic and so as the Daytona but Zenith deserves more credit for the El Primero line since the beginning... more than Rolex for sure.
I can't disagree with any of your choices Teddy but the stand out options that I would look at are the Zenith and at the other end of the price range Hamilton with the Tudor in the middle. I have the discontinued 1861 Speedy that is a manual wind for me and for anyway adds that extra connection to the watch to keep the heart beating. Great video Teddy.
A superlative video! I own three chronographs...the Omega Speedmaster Professional from 1971, the Lorier Gemini, and Bulova Lunar Pilot. I always considered the Speedmaster Professional and Daytona as equals. I love the Zenith, but for my use, the 12 hour timer/register is a must-have. Frankly I don't understand a 24 hour military time register. I don't see any advantage of spending thousands more on the Hamilton and Tudor. No 12-hour register. You might as well get the superb Lorier Gemini. It's a panda and come in three colorways. It's $499 and punches way above its weight, using the fantastic Seagull ST19 manual wind movement. No, the Gemini doesn't have the 12-hour register, but it's still a terrific chronograph. The Lorier and Bulova Lunar Pilot have been my daily drivers...with the Lunar Pilot being my favorite. Yes, I know it's a quartz, so it won't make your cut, but it has Bulova's revolutionary 262 kHz movement, that buttery-smooth chrono hand and the +-10 seconds-per-year accuracy.
So interesting to see the direction that Breitling is taking. Up until recently, Breitling conjured ideas of overlarge, flashy, ostentatiously cluttered watches. Recently, with products like the B01 movement and designs like the Top Time, they seem to have upped their game in a major way. All that goodness and you can walk into a boutique, try on some watches, and walk home with the one you fancy.
As a big dude, the black lunar pilot was the best $200 spent at kohls on black friday. The black wears a bit smaller, and I prefer no date for my watches. No need for a daytona or speedy. Bought black leather white stitching chronissimo straps that makes the straps look 22mm. Super badass bargain. No servicing costs. I do love me some Hamilton. They have a Cartier homage dress watch for bigger dudes that looks awesome. I love that panda chrono. Damasko chronos have my full attention as well...true tool. The tudor panda is washed out. Wished they used black hands like Damasko.
Tudor would be the closest alternative since they are owned by same company. Good analogy would be the equivalent to Toyota and Lexus, Rolex being the Lexus of course.
Not really, there isn't one rolex part in a tudor.... that's like saying a Volkswagen is a lesser version of a Lamborghini because they're made by the same company....it's just not true.... tudor makes some cool watches! But the black bay chrono has no resemblance to the daytona....2 registers verse 3, date vs no date, different handset, and completely different parts on the inside and out.
@@jjworks462 ah, sure! Lol but the main point was they use different parts! And just for me I don't really find tudor an "alternative " to the daytona, it looks more like it's own creation! For me, when I think of "alternatives" I think of things like Invicta or Pagani design watches, I don't really think of watches that have their own identity like the tudor blackbay or omega speedmaster. if tudor did the omega seamaster thing with the open snow flake handset, that black bay chrono would be a snap buy! Atleast for me! The full snowflake hand set currently hides too much of the dial :( but I don't want them to change the handset because a tudor without snowflake hands seems off to me haha
@@pignosis354 Google it they used the same parts until recently. Is that what you did Google it a came to my comment to say they don't have same parts. Lol. Just recently they stop using same ETA. Nice try though. Lol
I think another alternate would be the Ball Hydrocarbon Racer. It incorporates both the looks of a racing chronometer and a diver quite well in my opinion, and it’s a more affordable option for how much watch it delivers
Teddy, Another superior video. The Hamilton is a chronograph designed for average folks. I suppose that’s the advantage of being part of the Swatch Group. It is a watch I can save up and buy someday. If you do have gold bullion stashed away, the other watches as well as the Daytona are spectacular choices and well worth the money. Just not for most of us.
The Omega Speedy Racing with the white panda dial is gorgeous. I had that watch and a black Seamaster in each hand, and it was a hard choice. I got the Seamaster since I loved it, and well, saved about 4 grand lol
Great list, Teddy. I actually own the Seiko SRQ029, and have always been a big fan of the Daytona. Chronographs are my favorite complication. While I don't think I'll be getting a Daytona anytime soon unless my AD calls, my Seiko does more than scratches the itch. I wouldn't even say the Daytona would be an upgrade or replacement for my seiko. I'd probably end up moving to a Grand Seiko chronograph like the sbgc240.
Blancpain fifty fathom bathyscaphe chrono.....is less expensive than the current trading Daytona and the Lamborghini inspired movement is truly gorgeous
So, after watching the whole video I thought Teddy was giving away 10 new Daytona’s? 🤣 Great job. Great choices. Maybe a follow up video with chronos in the $800-$2000 range?
That Speedmaster Racing with the 9900 calibre is incredible. Leagues ahead of anything Rolex have ever built from a chronometric point of view. To say it’s the closest thing your gonna get to the Daytona from an Omega point of view is a little insulting to what Omega have achieved with their master chronometer chronograph.
I think Lorier Gemini is a great low budget alternative. It has a similar feel without being an homage, the bracelet is amazing for the price range and it’s 499 with an automatic movement.
For people in Europe there's also Baltic Bicompax 002 with the same movement and interesting dial design for €675. But both of those watches can be a bit of a hard sell when you can get a Seagull 1963 with the same movement for under €200 :)
@@RunawayYe True! And I love the Seagull 1963 versions out there, but I don’t see the standard Seagull 1963 as having a “Daytona style” (like the Gemini) But if you just want a cool good looking mechanical chronograph then seagull 1963 is the way to go! Especially with an exhibition case back, it’s a beautiful movement for a low cost.
@@johnatspray Ah okay, I see what you mean now :) The ST1901 is definitely such a beautiful movement, and I think it's the only flyback chronograph movement in watches cheaper than $2500. By the way if you haven't stumbled upon HKED yet, go visit his website, he makes 1963 models based on the production model with the "star trek" logo, as opposed to the "red star" logo 1963 prototype we see everywhere else. Although his editions are a bit more expensive at $300. He also makes a Heuer/Sinn Bundeswehr homage with an ST1901 inside, interesting stuff.
@@RunawayYe Yes HKED looks great. I think they look better than red star, but red star is kind of cool, because of the old school communist army style. It’s a fun watch

Hey, Teddy, since you’ve mentioned the Orient Neo 70, have you taken a gander at it and done a review? Seems like a very solid watch but kinda hard to come by outside the Asian market.
Great review! All of the watches you reviewed are excellent choices, however they still can't compare to the Daytona. They are all too thick, I think the Daytona is about 12.3mm? None of them come close to a Rolex bracelet. Believe me I have tried all of them on and I keep coming back to my Daytona, and Explorer II.
He meant ‘attainable’ as in you can buy one from a local AD. Your mixing attainable and affordable. You can’t get a Daytona from an AD anywhere but you can buy ZChrono sports in store on a strap same day or pre-order a bracelet version and have it within a month if they don’t have it in stock.
Everything is relative to budget. Someone willing to spend $10k on a watch isn't going to be able to get a Daytona so the Zenith is the next best option.
I’m not into Chronographs, but the black Tudor is something I will buy if one comes up, as a quality Chrono movement is something I would like to try. It is also the only Tudor I think I could suffer that faux river bracelet with.
I am not really into chronographs. I had a Speedmaster and as soon as I had the opportunity to get an Explorer II Polar, I knew it was time to say goodbye. More than 2 years ago and I don't regret that decision at all.
Speedy is an icon of its own. I don't know anyone who would want a Daytona and buy Speedmaster instead. Zenith chronomaster sport is the best option in my opinion. It has its own history being the first chronograph, but if I gotta be honest the bezel is heavily Daytona inspired. Where Daytona design evolves naturally, zenith just slaps that bezel on their Chrono hoping to bite that Daytona cake. There are a few things to consider before buying.
Another very interesting and informative vid 👍. It has to be the Hamilton for me, it's great value and a true alternative instead of being a substitute like the Tudor or Zenith imo.
How about the Ball Engineer hydrocarbon chronograph. I love the Zenith but I hate the 4 o'clock date window. Even the Frederique constant Rally has Daytona vibes
Didn't the Daytona use the zenith movement when it first came out, but the movement was restricted to ,28,000, compared to the 36,000 of the original zenith movement
Great video as always. You are a pretty amazing young man when it comes to the knowledge of watches with great charisma. Well done. All the watches you’re presenting in this video are great watches but, personally I don’t think that they are alternative watches to the Daytona. To me they are more like consolation watches. If you want a Daytona, no “lookalike” watches will satisfy you. I would have no problems owning any of those watches from your video. As a matter of act you exited my watch appetite with your video, but not as alternative to a Daytona. I don’t own any Daytona yet but I’m still hoping that I will one day. It is probably because it’s so hard to get it that we are fantasizing over it. I’m lucky to own an AP Royal Oak that I managed to buy longtime ago for a fair price, so this one is out of my dream list. The Pateck Nautilus is out of my league but the Daytona remains a wish that I’d like to achieve. Anyways, good going with your videos, thanks for giving us a bit of joy with them each time.
You've read my mind it would be such a win without the date window same with the Tudor chronograph they should have scrapped the date window for a 12 hour counter. I think the Zenith Defy would be my choice if I was to buy a Zenith or a Zenith type Pilot 20

If you are near the Zenith price I’m thinking the JLC Master Chronograph.
This reminds me quite a bit of yesterdays post in r/watches asking for an alternative to the Zenith El Primero... :D
Daytona of course 😂
Great video!!
I love the Seiko actually…..
The Zenith and the Hamilton both look so good.
I have an Omega Speedmaster Racing in the white with black accented black dials and I love it…
Own the new black dial Zenith Chronomaster and absolutely luv it!
@@pignosis354 you mean Audi or Porshe to a Volkswagen. Lambo is a little extreme. Lol
@@pignosis354 recently they still used to same parts so someone buying a used Tudor would have same Eta. Lol.
We now have the Pitzmann III Chronograph as an affordable, gorgeous alternative.
Teddy,
Another superior video.
Can't believe you didn't include the Pagani Design PD-1644 Daytona :) Id take the Zenith all day long. Thanks for another great vid Teddy
I have the Pagani Design Daytona, it's a really nice watch.
Probably because its closer to a fake daytona than an alternative.
Great job. Great choices. Maybe a follow up video with chronos in the $800-$2000 range?
Hi Teddy, like your channel very much. Always good content!
I would go for a GO Senator Chronograph
Panorama date..
I bought the Hamilton white dial Chronograph with H-51 movement modified 7753 hand wind about 5 months ago it keeps perfect time still right on the button never hand watch keep that good of time and I have a lot automatic and wind watches any some watches are over 10,000 dollar watches
I went with a Haute Hologerie brand and decided on the Ulysse Nardin Marine Chronograph.
Hey, Teddy, since you’ve mentioned the Orient Neo 70, have you taken a gander at it and done a review? Seems like a very solid watch but kinda hard to come by outside the Asian market.
Some great options!! The Zenith or the omega were my favs
I love my Cartier roadster chromo it’s chromawesome but it can only be had second hand
Oft overlooked - the Omega SeaMaster Chronograph. An almost bulletproof 12 hour chronograph.
4:23 oh yeah I’d totally buy this 😍😍
Great review!
@Nigel Molesworth You are so welcome.
Teddy: "Attainable alternatives to the Daytona"
Zenith Chronomaster Sport: "I'm about to end this man's whole career"
How?
How?
@@ejames6431 The average person wouldn't consider a $10,000 watch "attainable"
He meant ‘attainable’ as in you can buy one from a local AD. Your mixing attainable and affordable. You can’t get a Daytona from an AD anywhere but you can buy ZChrono sports in store on a strap same day or pre-order a bracelet version and have it within a month if they don’t have it in stock.
Everything is relative to budget. Someone willing to spend $10k on a watch isn't going to be able to get a Daytona so the Zenith is the next best option.
The Omega. No question.
If considering entry price-points I think Tissot V8 Chronograph Automatic looks pretty decent as a entry Daytona.
Another very interesting and informative vid 👍.
It has to be the Hamilton for me, it's great value and a true alternative instead of being a substitute like the Tudor or Zenith imo.
Great alternatives review. I'd chose the Autavia 02 great watch from Heuer ,a company with lots of racing history.
Idol next upload can you upload all rolex style and model.
I really like the Hamilton Intra-matic chronograph. Mine keeps great time which surprised me, with its having an ETA/Valjoux movement.
You didn’t mention the movement in the Tudor is also in the Breitling
Wow, I was just Google searching this yesterday!
How about the Ball Engineer hydrocarbon chronograph. I love the Zenith but I hate the 4 o'clock date window. Even the Frederique constant Rally has Daytona vibes
Hi Teddy.. Do you know anything about Brellum Swiss Watches? They make a Chronograph at a very good price
Fast forward to 2023. The Hamilton Performer Chronograph might be a good option.
Didn't the Daytona use the zenith movement when it first came out, but the movement was restricted to ,28,000, compared to the 36,000 of the original zenith movement
Dan Henry have made a few designs... Maybe not a high horology brand, but a respectable one.
Has to be the Autavia out of these for me. I also like the Sinn 144, and some of the Porsche Design chronos.
Pagani Design with Seiko Mecha-quartz movement!
I think the Tudor Chrono is the best buy. A modified (upgraded) B01 for almost half the price as a Navitimer.
I love the Zenith but they should make a no date version, the date ruins the dial for me.
You've read my mind it would be such a win without the date window same with the Tudor chronograph they should have scrapped the date window for a 12 hour counter. I think the Zenith Defy would be my choice if I was to buy a Zenith or a Zenith type Pilot 20
Have the intramatic and vintage speedmaster, waiting on the tudor.
Please review the Marcello C Nettuno 3..i am one of your avid fan.i always watch your videos..i want to know your opinion on the marcello c nettuno lines...thank you..keep up the good reviews of watches...i am from the philippines..
Bremont Williams Racing Watch. I would add that one to the list
I swear if you took the branding off the Zenith/Daytona people would buy the Zenith 2:1 over the Rolex. So much better looking imo
You are 100% accurate. It's a better watch. Better movement, better proportions, has a date on it. I wanted a daytona and was gonna buy it then I saw the zenith and fell in love. I am buying one tomorrow. Also got the defy classic 41. I'm a Zenith fan
Ahh...........I was gonna comment then I remembered my wonderful Pagani Design Daytona homage is a quartz!
what watch are you wearing teddy?
I would suggest Tudor Big Block. Unfortunately has doubled in price during last 2 years.
The Seiko SBTR013 is way closer. Surprised you didn't mention it.
One of my favorite is Breitling hurricane avenger.
