I want the SSC813 so bad. Seeing it in this video as an alternative for the Daytona is exactly why I was looking at it in the first place. Love these videos! Keep up the good content!
I'm wearing one as I type this. Great watch, especially for medium-sized wrists Has a classic, bold racing chronograph look but can be differentiated from a Daytona across a room, so no hint of being a copy-cat Bracelet is it little difficult to size up precisely, though. I bought an alternate clasp
I thought that then tried one on, a little small for my liking (and my eyes) then Seiko brought out the SSC911, the Go Large. Much more my tempo, silver dial instead and a sportier look but it's close enough for me, a fraction of the cost and more importantly, you can actually buy one!
Teddy, I very much respect how you are able to come up with so much content and at the same time keep yourself grounded to your morals and principles. Giving a list of alternatives to luxury tier watches, all while maintaining that if at all possible to buy the original watch you've always wanted, and how the watches on your list strike such a balance between aesthetics and heritage. Been watching your channel for some time and it goes without saying, you really know your stuff! Hope to have a conversation with you one day--keep up the great work!
I saved up for over two years to get an Omega Planet Ocean. If you know what you want, save up for it; in the long run it may take longer, but it feels really good to get exactly what you want and not feel that you "settled" for something that was not exactly what you wanted. That being said, there are a lot of really nice watches on this list 👍
Solid advise for sure, I have always regretted the alternative purchases. I picked up the Longines Hydroconquest thinking it would feed my desire for the Rolex Sub but it didn't even come close. I would say that if you like the alternative for what it is then go for it but don't do it because you are longing for something else.
@@deansusec8745 I agree with you. Even though I had saved the money for over two years, I still has that, "What the heck am I doing?" feeling when I paid for it. @@BlueCollarLuxe That's a good way to put it 👍. There are some really good affordable alternatives (as Teddy points out in the video), but I think it's better to save up for what you really want, even if it takes a little longer.
If your bills are paid, generosity is part of your world already and you know exactly what you want, there’s nothing to do but get the one that makes you happy. I can be happy with a second tier marque. For some things. But, in some areas, only one make and model will suffice.
It’s great to have these options for watch lovers who want that premium experience without the hefty price tag. Keep up the amazing work-this is such valuable info for watch enthusiasts! ❤
As a budget (less than entry) watch enthusiast, I've always been keen on the watches of this calibre. Watches that you've always wanted but due to your current financial situation could never afford for the foreseeable future. I've made a list below of what I would choose :- Submariner = Lorier Neptune Daytona = Seagull 1963 Panda Explorer = Smiths Everest PRS Datejust = Seiko Presage Sharp Edge / Seiko DressKX / Vintage Tudor Oyster Prince GMT Master = Lorier Hyperion / Borealis Estoril Seamaster = Boldr Odyssey Mark XX = Laco Pilot Cartier Tank = Bulova Sutton (Just wish it didnt have that open heart!) Royal Oak = Tissot PRX
Teddy, you are a gift to watch collectors and people new to watch collecting ! Thank you for being you ! The knowledge we all need delivered by class. Excellent watch videos ! Have you done a video on what started your watch passion ?
The nivada grenchen f77 is the closest to a royal oak without being a full on homage. They have all of these mineral dial offerings, it's in titanium as well as steel and it's got a 37mm size.
Good stuff here. I like the Traska Summiteer for the Rolex Explorer. I like the Jack Mason GMT for the Rolex GMT Master II. I love the Mido TV Big Date and have three of them! (From Teddy) I would mention that it was released in 73 and predates the Nautilus and the Aquanaut. Great picks Teddy and fun stuff! Thanks as always.
@ No, I have not had that experience. I wear the Grey/Black dial pretty often. It is in a regular rotation and I have not had any issues. Now, the blue dial and the brown/bronze I don’t wear as much.
I'd consider the Tudor Royal as a good alternative to the date just, also the day date version could tick that extra box at a fraction of the price. The two tone brown dial is unbelievably eye catching in the flesh!
You could absolutely do that. I did want to limit the amount of Tudor is the alternative to Rolex since it felt too obvious and wouldn’t make for as compelling of a video. I was also thinking that the integrated bracelet made it more oysterquartz than anything contemporary in the Rolex catalog.
For the Datejust alternative I'd have chosen the Bulova Super Seville. Fluted bezel: ✅ , date complication with a cyclops: ✅. The only differences are the movement type (262 kHz Precisionist sweeping quartz) and the case shape (integrated TV style).
Another good Explorer alternative would be the new Super Antarctic line from Nivada. you should take a look, they're gorgeous watches, inspired by feedback from enthusiasts.
Same here. I was in Costco the other day and they had a Citizen "Weekender" that I was seconds away from buying. Only reason I didn't was because it's so close to Christmas and it felt selfish lol.
As a nautilus alternative, Andrew Morgan’s channel recently talked about the Atelier Wen perception. And it just hits many boxes, and for me I like it more than the nautilus.
For the Rolex Datejust a possibility would be the Ball Engineer Marveloght III, mechanical Swiss movement, similar case design elements and the cyclops at 3 o clock
1000% agree! As soon as he mentioned the Date Just I was taking to the computer screen saying "Ball, Ball, Ball come on Teddy you know it should have been Ball"
Great viewing as ever from Cleveland's finest. I've got the Bulova Lunar Pilot 45mm and its wonderful, won't consider the Omega now I have it. Tudor GMT next. Nothing but the 50 Fathoms though, that's incomparable.

15:00 It's funny how thin Mido Oceanstar 39 is. Usually, You need to go for La Joux Perret or Miyota 9000 series for thinness and no date no complication, or even go for sw300 for more expensive options, this is a diver under 11mm and it's not even crazy expensive.
Ok... I watched this video a few times before I made a decision, the more I thought about it the more the Murph at 5:50 had me sold. Just received it new the other day. Always wanted an Explorer type piece for my collection, but felt continuously challenged to find it at the price point that I felt was reasonable. Thanks Teddy, you're doing good stuff.
18:14 Laco was the brand I went with, the Aachen 42 with blue dial is on my wrist right now and I really love it. Legible, direct, crazy lume, and durable. Also fun to snap my wrist and feel the balance wheel spin. Leather strap in fall/winter, NATO for spring/summer... While it's not a daily driver it definitely is in my top three that I wear a lot. listing for $410.00 on the Laco site right now.
I saw Nico mention Rotaty Ultra Slim as a Tank alternative and for that price it's a stunner. Definitely grabbing one, although it's Quartz so for some that need a Mechanical movement, Longines is a better option obviously duh
Great video, very accurate analysis. In my 4.5 years in the game as a watch collector and enthusiast, I collected a lot from MAMACOO I was thinking I was able to get a blue SD but I'm not vip enough, but I'm not giving up. Hehe. Great video.
A big Mil Ships fan here! Mine is the limited edition. I wear it on the strap it came with and thinking about a suitable NATO to fit the 16mm lug width ✌🏾
Bro i need some help, i wanna buy one nice watch, here my taste, wich one do you chosse? Longines hydroconquest (blue), Oris Aquis (blue) or Tag Heuer Carrera (blue) For casual setting (semi formal), which one has a better movement, more quality or which one is more bang for your buck?
Great video and great pick. For the Explorer my first thought was the Christopher Ward Sealanders. For the Date-Just the Monta Noble is an excellent choice.
Well done, Teddy. No one ever brings up the mido TV big day when it comes to affordable alternatives for the Nautilus. TV big date will be my next watch. Which color should I choose? I like em all!
Yes 👍 Blancpain lied through their teeth about developing the first dive watch with a rotating bezel. That claim has been debunked and debunked badly by Perezcope
My watch was purchased 2 years ago from AMZWATCH and, to this day, it still looks and runs as well as it did the day it arrived. That movement has never missed a beat despite never having been serviced. I can't complain about that.
One i do like thats similar to the Date Just is the SNK361 by seiko. The bracelet has the look, it has the smoothe bezel. Its 38mm i think, and is extremely affordable at under $130 US, often near the $110 territory.
That Breitling is something to fall in love with... the hamilton substitute is cool and all, the sinn is okay but it feels like there has to be something closer and doesnt cost 2k? Maybe im just a poor man with an eye for pricey things i cant afford lol😅
If you're going to mention the Murph as an Explorer alternative then I have to mention the Hanhart Preventor HD12 as an alternative to the Murph, coming in at almost the same price (at least in Europe) and with superior specs. And no fauxtina.
I knew you would pick the Citizen as the option for the Rolex Date Adjust. That Citizen also has a beautiful black dial. Those hands on the Omega Seamaster are stunningly beautiful. I also like the Hamilton over the Breitling.
Some of these alternatives are on my list not because they're an alternative but because they are great looking watches 🤨 Longines Hydroconquest two tone, Longines Sector Dial, and the Mido Ocean Star, all make my list 😉😎
Just bought online the mido watch it is beautiful but I realized is kind of small 39mm for my 8.25 wrist and theres no bigger one with the same pattern black n blue waves😢 I will probably go with a Christopher ward c60 Trident pro 300 42mm I think is wonderful!!
2:12 the Longines Hydroconquest looked like a solid buy for the price. But I went into the showroom to try it on today and something didn’t seem quite as good as even a Seiko 5 when u look at the watch. I looked for a while and realised it was the large numbers on the dial, they take away from the classic submariner look. Since the bezel is numbered, having numbers on the dial as well just looks like overkill and takes away some of the elegance. The Tudor would have been a nice alternative except for the weirdly shaped hour hand. Bit disappointed about the Longines since I like everything else about the watch.
Teddy just had an idea for a video but you may have done this already, I will have to got through your archive but how about a video about watches that are good for daytime and also watches that are good evening watches, should be an interesting topic for discussion, longtime fan Thanks for all you do !
I completely agree! That’s been something I’ve struggled with a lot when it comes to things nobody seems to think about, but everybody thinks about! Like, loom is a big deal! I’d love to see a video like this! 🙏
Ted, many of us subs base our purchases on the lume quality of the dive watches, if I paid 10k for a sub mariner and the lume was weak or only lasts 5 minutes... well I wouldn't be happy. Maybe mention lume quality and how long it glows on the watches you handle. 👍
Great video as always, Teddy! Agreed on all selections except for the Submariner alternative: I would say Seiko Prospex SPB143 is a more fitting choice. Longines Hydroconquest is actually more suited to be a Omega Seamaster Diver 300M alternative due to the similarities in the crown guard and the bezel.
Great video. Teddy stroke balance commenting on epoch, movement and casing. Bravo. I have a MIDO green, it looks great but maybe too close to PP for many people comfort.
I have to correct you here. The mido calibre 72 is not based on the C07.611, it is based on the L31, the same 2892 based movement that longines uses. A solid step above
Another great alternative to the GMT Master II is the Monta Skyquest. Borderline homage but enough unique design elements to make it its own thing. I’m kind of in love with it.
Now I need a video about affordable alternatives to the accessible alternatives 😅
Lol... Great comment!!
This is the way

You're the man teddy. Will buy a piece from you in person some day, you guys do good work.
Bro i need some help, i wanna buy one nice watch, here my taste, wich one do you chosse? Longines hydroconquest (blue), Oris Aquis (blue) or Tag Heuer Carrera (blue)
For casual setting (semi formal), which one has a better movement, more quality or which one is more bang for your buck?
Great video and great pick. For the Explorer my first thought was the Christopher Ward Sealanders. For the Date-Just the Monta Noble is an excellent choice.
The Sealander is a great pick for sure!
I might but the wheel games have really caught my attention. There's always something new to try
Well done, Teddy. No one ever brings up the mido TV big day when it comes to affordable alternatives for the Nautilus. TV big date will be my next watch. Which color should I choose? I like em all!
The one with the orange strap is pretty cool.
Yes, and the Mido was released before the Nautilus, so if anything it was copied
Great video as always!
The FIRST 3 dive watches in 1953 are Rolex Sub, Blancpain 50th Fatoms and the Zodiac Sea Wolf.
Maybe im just a poor man with an eye for pricey things i cant afford lol😅
that was incredible. what a beautiful watch and what great work you did on it!AMZWATCH
Teddy I bought the Citizen! And in your previous video, I bought the Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 Glacier Blue. Thank you for what you do!
If you're going to mention the Murph as an Explorer alternative then I have to mention the Hanhart Preventor HD12 as an alternative to the Murph, coming in at almost the same price (at least in Europe) and with superior specs. And no fauxtina.
The preventor from hanhart is amazing and needs more attention
I really hate that Hamilton has Fauxtina on so many of their watches with no option for regular white lume
@@megacabthe Hanhart blows the Hamilton out of the water in every aspect
@lonewolfemcquade8133 i agree I bought their 417 ES chrono
I was thinking the same thing. I’ve wanted a Murph for quite a while now but since seeing the Hanhart Preventor I’m reconsidering it.
The new Seiko Prospex SPB481, SPB483, SPB485 divers are better alternative to the Omega Seamaster than the Mido Ocean Star, for me
Would also put the SPB143 in that category. The grey sunburst dial is underrated.
Datejust alternative could be bulova surveyor it’s a sharp looking watch no fluted bezel though
Citizen has another (imo better) alternative for the Datejust.
It's their NB1050 model.
I came to the comments to make that same suggestion. I have one and it's great - but I suspect it's not in the list because it's a JDM model
Very interesting Video, thanks!
Recently bought a Le Jour. Very satisfied. Not cheap, but definitely attainable.
I knew you would pick the Citizen as the option for the Rolex Date Adjust. That Citizen also has a beautiful black dial. Those hands on the Omega Seamaster are stunningly beautiful. I also like the Hamilton over the Breitling.
Great video. We definitely need the affordable versions in this economy.
Some of these alternatives are on my list not because they're an alternative but because they are great looking watches 🤨 Longines Hydroconquest two tone, Longines Sector Dial, and the Mido Ocean Star, all make my list 😉😎
Great list. I also like the Spinnaker Fleuss for the Fifty Fathoms and Maen Manhattan for the 5711.
What a great video, with beautiful watches!
Just bought online the mido watch it is beautiful but I realized is kind of small 39mm for my 8.25 wrist and theres no bigger one with the same pattern black n blue waves😢 I will probably go with a Christopher ward c60 Trident pro 300 42mm I think is wonderful!!
You shouldn't be disappointed with the CW. One of my favorite watches that I own.
Get a lot of watch for the money with Christopher Ward!
Longiness is one of those watches that look better online vs in person! Had the exact same experience
The mido is the best equivalent. Also, the bug date is just addictive !!!
Excellent video
21:30 I think another alternative to the Patek is the Maen Manathan 39…
Great video Teddy! For the Rolex Datejust I would also put the New Longiness Conquest as an amazing alternative for the smooth bezel version.
No alternative for Panerai?
I have to correct you here. The mido calibre 72 is not based on the C07.611, it is based on the L31, the same 2892 based movement that longines uses. A solid step above
Yep.
Another great alternative to the GMT Master II is the Monta Skyquest. Borderline homage but enough unique design elements to make it its own thing. I’m kind of in love with it.
Amazing video. I'd go for Alpina Startimer Pilot 40mm on Mark XX alternative.
Teddy love all of your posts and shows. Great job. Thank you
