Khwai - Another Botswana Adventure - Khwai Safari Grounds

- We were hit with a burst of excitement as we left the tarred road from Maun towards Khwai, knowing that it was gravel and sand for the next 2 weeks.
After a few kilometers, there is a veterinary fence. There are no issues to travel south to north with meat, but none is allowed to be taken down south towards Maun
The road was extremely dry and dusty with loose sand all over as there had been no rain in the area for a long time.
We had a few wildlife sightings towards the camp, mostly giraffe elephant zebra, and some antelope, and just before the turn off to our favorite campsite in Botswana we were treated with 3 cheetahs right next to the main road.
The Campsites at Khwai Safari Grounds are large with a braai area, a bin, and a tap that is fed from the river.
Campsites 7 8 and 9 are our favorite sites and they share an ablution.
Campsites 1-4 are much more private, but you do not have a view right next to the Mbudi channel
Campsite 3 and especially campsite 4 is very large. These all share an ablution.
The operator and staff accommodation are also right behind the ablution facilities
The main reason why we prefer Khwai Safari Grounds is that you can get into the main game viewing area of Khwai, by crossing the channel right from your camp. We are not fans of water crossings and will only use it seldom.
Some days we just stay in camp as lots of wildlife and birdlife congregate at the channel, especially in the dryer months.
We did an afternoon drive in the Magotho side of the Khwai area and we were immediately reminded why we keep on visiting this very special place in Botswana
The following morning, we headed to the main game viewing area in the Khwai region. Even though there had not been any rain for a while, some areas still were not accessible, and we had to continuously find another route. But this did not stop us from finding some amazing sightings.
In the next episode,
We head over to Khwai Magotho. Here with nowhere to go, we were welcomed by the gentle giant himself.
We also have some predators including more leopard, wilddogs and lions
All of these before we find more leopards in Savuti

I love it here. Camping, sightseeing and wildlife plus spotting leopards on the afternoon drive all combined?! 😃 That's top tier! 👌🏾 Definitely camping on this channel
Thank you so much for the kind words and for watching
Absolutely stunning! Such beauty and serenity and I love the bird calls in the morning ☀️
The morning is our best time of the day. The morning bird chorus just makes for a stunning start to the days
Great sightings. The whole range. Love Botswana. Your child is so lucky to do this.
Thanks. We got treated with some amazing sightings. So glad that our kid also enjoys the bush and wildlife. Always a pleasure to take her to these areas
That's wonderful !
I was born in Central Africa (DRC) and I experienced these emotions in the bush when I was a teenager. I am 72 years old, I relive in my gut these wonderful encounters in the African fauna and flora. Thank you so much. I'm happy tonight...
Hi. Africa is amazing. Especially places like these where nature is at the center.
Wildlife is abundant but so is the birds and the nice tall tress. Such a great place.
Thanks for watching

Thx for sharing, you guys have a great channel….
Thanks. The places we visit make the channel worth while. Thanks for watching
Real, natural & wild. Wonderful viewing!
Thank you for the kind words and for watching
Thanks, really appreciate your balance between wildlife sounds and your music, very well done and enjoyable to watch.
Thanks for the kind words.
It is always difficult to get the wildlife sounds as we are confined to our vehicle and there is a lot of external factors.
Thank you for watching
I have continued to enjoy your videos. I live in Louisiana but am a Texan by birth. Much of Africa reminds me of parts of Texas.
You have just enough adventure, family and wildlife to keep it interesting
And entrancing. Love it all. Ya’ll keep it going.
Thank you for the kind words. Africa has such diverse and adventurous places to visit. We will continue to explore and find new gems. Thank you for watching
Hi Martin stunning experience thanks again
Thanks. Khwai is special. Thanks for watching
What a great episode and now, thanks to you, I’ve added into my itinerary for our trip to Botswana next year too 👏👏
Thanks for the kind words. You will not regret adding it to your trip. It really is an amazing area
@@OurLifeInAfrica can’t wait . Thanks for your footage
Martin - Excellent! Wonderful sightings!
Thanks for watching. The sightings was on our side and amazing. Some of the best we have had in that area
Woooow!! Your luck with cats is second to none.. I've been somewhat lucky with some cats sightings but I've never seen so much in one trip. Khwai really is the gift that keeps giving.. Thank you for sharing your trip with us. Absolutely wonderful 👌👌
The sightings were some of the best we have ever seen, especially at Khwai. It must have been because it was so dry. Some sightings we did not even film. We are going back again in September and will definitely compare the two trips.
Thanks for watching
@@OurLifeInAfrica Woow!! September-November is the best time to visit the delta area in my opinion especially in terms of sightings. Can be unbearably hot though. Go have fun, can't wait to watch the videos..
Great one again Martin🤙. Looking forward to the next one. Booked and ready for our life in africa 😜 next year August. When was this one filmed?
Thanks again. We were there end of Sept/beginning of October 2023. This year the great sightings might be earlier. Good luck with your trip. It will always be amazing
Fantastic vlog- thanks 🙏
Thanks for the kind words and for watching

Fantastic!
Thanks Pierre
Hi Martin,
Awesome video. Is mal oor die luiperd sightings!
Khwai is een van die beste plekke vir n bos-vakansie.
Dankie vir die deel.
(Sien asb jou Messenger boodskap)
Groete
Braam
Hi. Khwai is baie nice. Gaan gereeld terug daarna toe.. weer in September ook. Kyk nou na messenger..
Hi Martin, great video once again. How do you find economy of the V6 when towing the caravan for such a trip?
Hi. It is not too good. On average it is about 5km/l. This includes open road towing at around 100kph. There are places that it drops to 3km/l especially with really deep sand stretches
Thanks for watching the vids
Best sightings 🫡
It was really amazing to get such good sightings. Thanks for watching
Wow! Fantastic adventure. Did you walk the river before crossing with the vehicle?
No.. luckily not.. there were crocs and hippo all over. The staff from the camp showed us where and how to cross
@@OurLifeInAfrica Thanks for the response. I have another question. Do you advance book camp sites or show up hoping for vacancy?
@@georgevesely1314 we normally book at Safari Grounds. The other sites normally have open camps. But to get the one you want, you will need to book. The last trip we booked 5 out of 12 nights. The rest we winged.
Thanks for the great video. How much is it now for camping for 2 South Africans and the car and trailer at Khwai etc.
Hi. It works out to about BWP350 pppn
Hi Martin, do you have to cross the channel to go ftom Khwai camp to Maghoto? Or is there another way around on the road? Thank you
Hi. You can take the main road to get to Magotho. No water crossings there. Thanks for watching
