I just got my iPhone SE 2020 this week and I love it. I thought it was going to feel outdated because of the screen but actually it doesn’t. The cameras are great and fill my needs. Battery wise it’s on the point.
Got my daughter this phone , went from a Samsung S9. She loves it. Says she loves the size and hates big phones anyway . She's happy. She's a first time iphone user
corsinivideos Yes, but lots of people are hanging onto their phones for longer and longer periods of time as the rate of improvement slows down. Having that long term guarantee of support is a huge feature and something that has always been infuriating with Android devices. Most phones are lucky to get a year and a half or two years of updates, let alone 4-5 years like Apple devices. In fact, I can’t think of a single android device other than maybe the Google Pixel that has that degree of manufacturer support.
@@go2yanks Well like i say depends. Google, oneplus, samsung all offer 2 full android version updates and 3 years security updates. For many this will be enough. Most average non techy iphone consumers who are the main market for this device probably know very little about updates anyway. Personally i think the emphasis on longer updates is wildly overstated. Yes its nice to have, but not a deal breaker at all, not like your phone stops working after 3 years of updates suddenly. Personalty i would take a very good camera that lasts 5 years over an average one and + 2 extra years of security updates but thats just me.
@@go2yanks but whats the point of getting updates for the sake of updates. the only thing that matters are security updates which for most people dont matter either way since they use their phone only for istagram, facebook, snapchat with full acces. i dont think the ios interface will have major updates in the coming 2-3 years so the SE will not look any different than it does now or than it did since the last big update when the X came out.
I bought the iPhone 11 and returned it because it was too big. I hate big phones. I then bought the IPhone 12 mini and the screen flicker gave me a headache so returned that one too. Finally settled on the SE and couldn't be happier.

they did recycle SOME parts, but with the new A13 Bionic with 3gb of ram, it's better than the 8, 7, and 6. This phone is perfect for people who want/likes the design of small 4"-5" phones.
I jumped from the 8 to an 11 and I miss touch ID. When my phone is on my desk I hate having to either look over it, pick it up or type my password in to unlock it. I'm sure Apple can put a finger print reader under the glass for what they charge.
Interestingly, that is exactly my issue with Face ID, used to love unlocking my iPhone 7 on my desk. Face ID is great - but you gotta have the phone pointing at you. At least MacBooks still have Touch ID
Dieter is by far the best reviewer on this site... I don't find his reviews super informative (he glosses over things quickly to make the video around 5 minutes), but his personality and sassiness just make them fun to watch :D

Big Shlamalamadingdongdotcom it’s almost Impossible to stay away from people in cities. U still need to go out for groceries and work. Taking public transport also need masks. I have been through this for almost 4 months now.
I actually love the home button more than Face ID. I got the se a few days ago and it’s amazing. I always listened to all the “bezels are too thick” “old design” stuff and felt like I should save up to get the 11, but honestly the bezels really don’t matter if you are an average person, and for me most people seem to want the 11 (at least in highschool) to seem cool. The 11 is nice but I like the classic design and the black front bezels make me forget they’re even there.
After five months with an iPhone SE 2020 that I got in late 2021, I like the smaller size making it pocketable & being able to access iOS exclusives like iMessage, FaceTime and Apple Wallet. It works well with the Bluetooth earbuds that I previously used with an Android & I got a Lightning-to-3.5mm headphone jack adapter for when I want to use wired headphones. I get a full day of light use or a decent four hours of heavy use (video playback) before it's down to 20%. I'm a point and shoot camera guy so the Camera works great for me.
iPhone SE arrived today and I am extremely impressed. So smooth to run and its camera, like you said is fantastic! I don’t care about the size as that’s what laptops and iPads are for. For £400, this iPhone is the best phone on the apple market right now.
their marketing is really working, people are calling it under $400 because of that 1 dollar difference (and I really like this phone so not trying to call it bad or anything)
Aaron Arguelles, it’s not outdated, it’s supposed to be a budget option. Even for $560, you’re still getting a lot of the features of the much more expensive iPhone 11 Pro. It actually outperforms many budget Android devices in many categories.
@@lcmt2051 1) It's an OUTDATED DESIGN. I'm not paying $399 for 4.7 inch LCD screen in 2020. And as dieter told it isn't A COMPACT PHONE. 2) No, it isn't better than any android budget phones. Lol the OnePlus 8 is cheaper than iPhone SE in my country. And both are not even worth comparing because OnePlus 8 is in a different league altogether.
Jose Rodriguez better battery life (batteries degrade over time so I imagine the iPhone 6 isn’t at maximum capacity anymore). Also - much better processing power (the review said it has the same processor as the iPhone 11)
Still using my original se after six and a half years. When something breaks on it I just buy a replacement part and change it myself. Only 16gb storage. Keeping it out there of stubborn pride.
I bought the iPhone 11 because I wanted the wide screen camera, but even though it’s kinda cool I never used it. Other cons: face id was a pain with a (covid) mask, it was heavy. Sold it and bought an iPhone SE for $250 on ebay. Apple supports it for five years that means I’m only paying $50 a year for a phone! Camera is great, especially the video. Saved a bunch of money & i get to stay in the ios ecosystem.
Thanks Dieter. Great content once again. You make some interesting points about longevity and I agree. I’ve just upgraded my iPhone 6S Plus which is 5 years old now and I too am very tech savvy. It still works pretty great. The SE is great value because of the A13, I can attest to longevity of Apple products.
The thing about buying an iPhone is that its usually not just about buying the phone itself, but buying into the whole apple experience (ecosystem, brand, symbol etc.) So if you could barely afford to get an original priced iPhone, buying into everything else is still gonna be a pretty price. But overall can't deny apples quality and reliability these days, so good phone on its own.
This new iPhone SE sounds like a great deal and with the saving you buy other Apple accessories to complete the ecosystem. (Apple Watch, Airpods) BTW, Dieter Bohn is my favorite tech reviewer, great job as always!

This is everything I want in a new phone for me as I have an iPhone 7 the se has a better camera better battery life wireless charging and a much faster chip The only issue I have with this phone is I would have liked a slightly bigger screen like a 5 inch so it’s in between the 5.5 to 6 inch phones and the 4.7 like all the old ones but that is a small compromise considering everything else
I recently purchased my iphone SE after retiring my first Gen SE which served me well over 5 years and i gotta say its everything I need from an Iphone! Basic but functional with great video quality!
Here because I’m deciding on the iPhone SE. I love my iPhone 6S, had it for three years now but I have to upgrade due to T-Mobile merging with Sprint. i’ve been using the 6S since its release day. in the past few months my only complaint is the battery life (which usually isn’t a problem because i’m typically always around a charging option), but it’s irritating enough that i’ve wanted a new phone. as soon as the SE 2020 came out (nearly same size, MUCH better everything else) i preordered it immediately. i’d been thinking of going XR, which is more expensive but the SE has everything the XR does, just the size i’m used to. i’m STOKED to get my SE tbh

I went from a iPhone 7 Plus which had a bigger screen to the iPhone SE 2020 in red due to budget and honestly me not liking the notch design on the flagship iPhones, and honestly, I totally love it. I don't watch a ton of media on it so the smaller screen doesn't affect me at all and I love just taking simple photos and having a faster processor and knowing that this thing will last me another couple of years due to the year it came out. Also maybe an uncommon opinion but I like the smaller size.
Everything that Dieter points out, are the things that are the most important to me when it comes to my phone devices. If i want good low light photography I would just bring my Sony a6400 or if I wanted incredible zoom, again, I would just bring my a6400 and my zoom lens. What matters to me, is that i am tired of spending thousands of dollars on devices that have bells and whistles on them that I just dont use. What matters to me, good camera, wireless charging, some type of water resistance, software updates, and fast enough to where i am not going to see any lag. All the things that matter to me, the average consumer, this phone checks at a very reasonable price to, especially to be able to own it and not have to be at the mercy of my cell phone carrier. Great points Dieter as always, and good job Apple.
bzvz jubito I have had my camera since it was first released. The camera I had before was 3 years old. What I am saying with my comment is invest in a good camera and go budget on the phone because 9 out of 10 average consumers don’t need all the bells and whistles of flagships. Everyone knows that flagship companies are stagnant on where to go with phones now. So why burden yourself with a $1000 or more bill every year?

Finally someone who makes comparisons to the phone I currently use!! Thank you for a fair and comprehensive review! I really appreciate that your expectations are reasonable for the price point. I've watched two other reviews and their standards felt more appropriate for someone shooting a documentary - in which case they ought to just buy a camera lol. So excited to re-upgrade (my iPhone 7 was stolen after having it for less than 6 months so I've been using my old iPhone 5SE for quite some time now).
Pro tip: Pay 99 cents a month for iCloud storage that’s there even when your phone is lost instead of $50 for local storage. Would take you over 4 years to break even.
hell, i use google photos which is free since photos make up a majority of my space, i have a 64gb phone and im nowhere near full capacity because of that
Koffee Kreme If you buy the 128GB model, you will also need a bigger iCloud storage plan because $12 per year only gives you 50GB to share amount all your devices. You’ll need to upgrade to the $36 per year iCloud plan to have enough cloud storage to backup the 128GB model.
I have like 23.000+ files on google photos for free, some of them very huge (4hours of video recording and large movies). I didn't know that there were people paying for this basic feature.
ZimrDesign that’s literally twenty times as expensive. And why would someone using an iPhone go out of their way to configure a third party cloud storage system?
I have an iPhone 8 with that 99 cents iCloud storage for my photos. I only use it for photos contacts reminders and notes app. I have like 30gbs left on the cloud lol! Best 99 cents I’ve spent in a long time! It saves me from having to buy a larger amount of storage.

bluetooth is not even new tech. My aunt has blue tooth in her 11 year Toyota. You can get a pair of blue tooth earbuds for like $50
I used to use the connector that plugs into the charging port for wired earbuds and that works great, I guess unless you charge your phone and use hearphones at the same time a lot, though I never really did that, but have since gotten bluetooth earbuds. I swore to never switch but they're just so much more convenient and you can find cheap ones.

I just bought one through my employer purchase program with at&t for $98 with 256 gigs. Can’t beat that.
I just need an apple music, iMessage, and best quality to take a video. That's why i choose iPhone SE.
The greatest thing about this phone is the single camera in the back ! 1 camera is beautiful.
Meng Jur and not just that, it’s perfect for someone like me who almost never takes any pictures!
Meng Jur but also easily the best video camera for a budget phone
But the sad thing is it doesn't have night mode 😕😕
It’s what’s stopping me from upgrading an iPhone 8 to any of the newer flagships. Those cameras look horrifying still and this looks classy.
No zoom tho.
2025 and the iPhone SE from 5 years ago still supported. Longevity is key.
Never used any phone as my main device for longer than 3 years in my entire life
Samsung S11+ No longer supported
corsinivideos Yes, but lots of people are hanging onto their phones for longer and longer periods of time as the rate of improvement slows down.

Why do I feel like he's gonna drop the iphone.
Getting an iPhone SE soon, my current phone, Galaxy S 5 lasted seven years! It wasn't supposed to, but it did.
apple sure knows how to recycle old iphone parts and make it "new"
And still make those better phones than Androids.
they did recycle SOME parts, but with the new A13 Bionic with 3gb of ram, it's better than the 8, 7, and 6. This phone is perfect for people who want/likes the design of small 4"-5" phones.
I love how this review was presented. You sir, should review more stuff.
I just have this phone for about two weeks after upgrading from the original SE. It's a great phone and iOS 14 runs perfectly on it. I'm satisfied😄
Gosh man we’re already on iOS 16!😬 how time flies hmm?
I jumped from the 8 to an 11 and I miss touch ID.
When my phone is on my desk I hate having to either look over it, pick it up or type my password in to unlock it.
I'm sure Apple can put a finger print reader under the glass for what they charge.
Chris Rhodes no they had your finger now they want your face, think again
Or at least they could add a finger print reader to the power button.
OnePlus and Samsung already have that. Apple should do the same if they want to keep up with their new iPhone 12.
I see more people asking for Touch ID instead of Face ID. And here I thought the notch had to stay because people wanted Face ID 🤦🏽♂️

Big Shlamalamadingdongdotcom not yet🙃
So far I love mine. Have had it for almost a week now.
I'm a point and shoot camera guy so the Camera works great for me.

its a perfect phone for people who want an iOS device with a "small" screen under $400
their marketing is really working, people are calling it under $400 because of that 1 dollar difference (and I really like this phone so not trying to call it bad or anything)
This outdated thing costs at least $560 outside the US.
Aaron Arguelles, it’s not outdated, it’s supposed to be a budget option. Even for $560, you’re still getting a lot of the features of the much more expensive iPhone 11 Pro. It actually outperforms many budget Android devices in many categories.
@@lcmt2051
1) It's an OUTDATED DESIGN. I'm not paying $399 for 4.7 inch LCD screen in 2020. And as dieter told it isn't A COMPACT PHONE.
2) No, it isn't better than any android budget phones. Try Samsung and others. And androids have far more features than iOS, it's a known fact.
3) It's having the same old thin aluminium body, will bend easily like iPhone 6.
4) iPhones are overrated, outside the US, everyone is moving to android.
5) If you're really looking for buying a cheaper iPhone, try buying iphone xs, xr or 11 series around black friday.
Lol the OnePlus 8 is cheaper than iPhone SE in my country.
And both are not even worth comparing because OnePlus 8 is in a different league altogether.
I love the small price and size I’m buying it and I have a iPhone 6 rn so it’s perfect(edit:I got the phone and it is amazing for a phone this size)
Might as well just keep the 6. Not much of a difference.
Jose Rodriguez A13 bud.
I also have 6 and this iPhone is really a good deal but I want to wait for iPhone 12 and then decide which one is better for me.
Jose Rodriguez better battery life (batteries degrade over time so I imagine the iPhone 6 isn’t at maximum capacity anymore). Also - much better processing power (the review said it has the same processor as the iPhone 11)
If it had a headphone jack it would have been. So upset.
Still using my original se after six and a half years. When something breaks on it I just buy a replacement part and change it myself. Only 16gb storage. Keeping it out there of stubborn pride.

good review. still rocking the 6+ over here! ..though battery life degrades really quick when not on a charger
An amazing job as always, congrats for that. I watch these videos to improve my English and I learn a lot from you.
Great idea.
(Apple Watch, Airpods)
BTW, Dieter Bohn is my favorite tech reviewer, great job as always!

You ok with 4.7 inch LCD display?
So in other words we should buy the 400$ iPhone SE and a 900$ Sony a6400 ?

Everyone knows that flagship companies are stagnant on where to go with phones now. So why burden yourself with a $1000 or more bill every year?
