The Secret to Cutting Straight Driveway Edges: Driveway Makeover PART 1

  • Опубліковано 6 лют 2025
  • We tackled a nice driveway makeover project where we straighten the edges of the existing driveway and expand it in other areas. With an upcoming wedding on this property we want to make sure everything looks really nice so we paid special attention to getting the edges straight and looking nearly perfect. There is lots of cool heavy equipment action in this video including the use of a F-750 dump truck, John Deere 310SE Backhoe, Bobcat Skid Loader, International Harvestor 666 Tractor and some new Kenworth T880 Dump Trucks haul in some stone for us. This is just Part 1 of 2 for this project so be sure to check out the second video showcasing the finished product on this job.

    • @digdrivediy
      @digdrivediy  3 роки тому +1

      Hi James. Thanks for the question. No, in my experience it doesn't really do any good. Are you talking in terms of weed control? The weeds we see most commonly in the driveway around here, such as common purslane, grown in the top 1" of the limestone. Do you use it? Thanks for watching!

    • @jamesweir2943
      @jamesweir2943 3 роки тому +1

      @@digdrivediy in Florida we use it for stabilization and some localities require it for ‘environmental’ as well. when you put dressing rock on sand and drive on it you would be amazed how fast it disappears into the sand. I like your sod cutter idea. nice, clean edges really enhance the final appearance. you do nice work. my company does a lot of that kind of stuff here in Florida-bobcats mini excavators.

    • @digdrivediy
      @digdrivediy  3 роки тому +2

      @@jamesweir2943 Oh, I see. Fortunately or unfortunately for us, we have very heavy clay based soils in our area that provide a very stable base. It is great for road beds, ponds or basements but terrible for drainage, septic systems or anything you wish to grow. We generally have about 8-12" of topsoil above the subsoil. We can just remove the topsoil and then build upon the clay. We even pour concrete on the virgin clay. The soil types change drastically as you go north into Michigan as it is all glacial till that is a literal mixture of all soil types, sand and gravel. I could certainly see the benefit of the ground barrier in the sand and other non stable conditions. Makes perfect sense. Thanks for the kind words and great topic of discussion.

      Thanks for your feedback Tom. I totally agree with you and I have been trying to figure it out. I made a real effort this time to normalize the audio and found that once it is loaded to UA-cam it sounds completely different than what I hear locally on my PC after making the video. Another thing I've noticed is that the music tends to be louder when watching on a TV rather than on the computer or PC. On the next video I'm going to crank down the music levels even more and hopefully I can get it straightened out. Please let me know if I make any improvements cause I'm right there with you, it's annoying when the dang music is so loud. Thanks for watching and exercising your volume button with me!

    • @digdrivediy
      @digdrivediy  3 роки тому

      As long as you remove the topsoil and organic material it shouldn't grow grass through the stones at all. If you put stones on top of the grass then they would grow through eventually for sure.

    no music and just engine sounds would be fine

    • @digdrivediy
      @digdrivediy  4 роки тому

      I debate that option too. Some people like music with it, some people don't. I try to do a little of both in the videos to balance it out. It would be interesting to do a poll to see what the majority of folks think. The music is really hard to choose in my opinion also so it's always a source of worry for me. I never use the same song twice. The reason for the music is that much of the time lapses and all of the drone video does not usually have accompanying audio, so usually I do it when there is no sound to put in underneath it. Personally I don't like the sound of sped up audio so I prefer the music. Maybe if I get the music turned down it won't be as bad to have in there. Thanks again for watching and letting me know. I value the opinion of the subs and strive to always make these better. Take care.
