The Best Dump Truck Driver Spreading Stone with Kenworth T880 Triaxle - Driveway Makeover Part 2
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 вер 2024
- This is Part 2 of this Driveway Makeover project where we are fortunate enough to meet the best dump truck tailgating stone spreader that I have ever encountered. Chris from Bailey Trucking helps us to finish up this project by laying down a topcoat of Indiana #9 limestone that hardly needs any grading or finish work besides just being driven on. In this video we watch Chris spread stone, have a short little interview with him where he provides us with some pointers and commentary on his past dump trucks, and then we finish up the topcoat with the pull type grader box and lawn roller. There's also a little bonus footage of a landscaping side project that we did while we were at this job. Thanks again to Chris Roffelsen from Bailey Trucking in Fort Wayne, Indiana and to Nic for helping finish up this project.
Thank you for making this video. Chris is my dad and we loved watching this. He has always taken pride in his work and that is something he has always instilled in us.
He always tells us it never feels like work because he truly enjoys getting up every day, doing the job, and getting to meet so many people.
Oh wow, somehow I missed this comment! I could watch your dad work all day! I'm glad to hear that this video is well received by his family. I truly respect him for how good he is at what he does and the passion he shares for it. I've always been worried that he might be embarrassed or regretful about letting me make this video, but I'm thankful to see this comment. Tell him I said hi and take care.
Wow that truck driver was great to hear, awesome person, good man, justifiable pride and pleasure in the job he does. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for checking it out!
That driver is something! Very nice!
He sure is. Thanks Greg!
Awesome to see an operator take pride in his work. Not enough pride these days.
He is definitely one of the best on a tailgate.
Yep. It is refreshing to see it once in a while these days. Appreciate you watching and commenting Dirt King!
I’ve been doing dump trucking for 27 years and nice to see another man that cares about his job.
The truck driver is super skilled and are gentle and carefull in his driving
Yes, quite a master at his craft. Thanks for checking out the video!
It's not that hard...
@@aaronsanborn4291 Need to tell that to 95% of the drivers I've watched trying to do this...
@@digdrivediy I'm 2nd Generation...I started doing it when I was about 15...I also grew up on a farm I was driving a silage truck on my grandfather's farm at 10 years old. My Dad is 70 still drives dump truck. I spend a lot of time building logging roads, driveways etc I tailgate gravel and stone all the time.
@@aaronsanborn4291 Right on. I think that's what it takes. You're in the 5% then if you can spread like this dude! Lots of guys can spread pretty well but he's the only one I've ever seen that can start spreading like that at the edge of the concrete almost perfectly over and over again every time, but obviously I haven't seen every trucker out there. Kudos to you if you've achieved that level cause that is impressive. Thanks for sharing and thanks for watching.
Awesome to watch a skilled professional
Yeah! He's fun to watch for sure!
Hell ya I love coming across guys like him. And they enjoy customers like you who appreciate all the little things he’s doing
For sure TinyT!
The attention to details and your passiok for perfection is outstanding!
Nice project, good job guys. Chris shows just how valuable experienced drivers are needed.
Thanks Tony. It was quite the reward to have Chris deliver on this job. They are getting fewer and farther between these days!
Hello you cant say he's the best cause you never seen me on paving operations from under the hopper at the hot plant to backed up to the laydown machine I am awesome
My bad 😋
Looks so good, looks like concrete from the drone footage!
Dang…. That guys good.
Everything the driver said was right
I tend to agree after watching him spread! Thanks for checking it out!
Awesome driver (chris)
For sure! Chris was awesome! And thanks for the clarification as I was driving in this video too but not as awesomely 😎 Thanks for checking out the video!
@@digdrivediy I'm getting ready to build a road and culdesac on my 5 acre property and trying to get some tips on doing it right!
Where I work an old guys been driving pup and truck for 40 plus years. He can spread truck and trailer with a manual like it's nothing.
Nice! Thanks for watching!
Hi I am 10 I love watching your videos and it makes me want to do what you do
Hi Adley! Great to hear from you. I'm glad you like my videos. I was just like you when I was young. If you keep dreaming it then it will eventually happen for you. Best of luck!
Why don't you add a little reverse camera on the back of that Tonka? An easy job for you, Neil, so much easier to judge where to dump.
That dump truck driver is surgical with that thing!
Another comment sorry, you know your stuff.
I wish that Chris guy made UA-cam videos
He would have some pretty cool jobs to share I bet, plus he's a great story teller. Hey, at least he has this one video to watch! Thanks for checking it out.
Hats off to that Driver!!! Cheers!!
Cheers Hiram! 👍
He's the best? Hum let's see... I been doing that for over 27 years it's not hard. Practice makes perfect. Set chains to same link or turn buckles to same raise body ,start moving a open gate. Stone or sand will come out at set depth of material. Keep raising body till all done. Don't claim to be best if u haven't seen every other dump trucker driver!!
Well, to be fair I left the title a little open ended... It could read "The Best Dump Truck Driver..."In Town" or "In the State" or "In the Country" or "In the World!" As you've pointed out, I haven't had the fortune of seeing every dump truck driver in the world and I doubt that any one person has, so I would expect most people to read the title and assume it reads "The Best Dump Truck Driver...(I've Ever Seen)". I'd love to see a video of you spreading so send it over and I will judge. I still think this 'ole boy will give you a run for your money! :) But at 27 years, I don't doubt you know what you're doing. Thanks so much for watching Doug!
What did you charge for this job?
Nothing. This was a job I did for my boss's father. We did it while I was at work at my day job. They paid for fuel and materials.
That truck driver is awesome, you can tell he takes pride in what he does, that's very rare to see.
Here in North Alabama most of the dump trucks I see are those t880’s. My dad bought me a 6 foot wide land plane last year to pull behind a tractor to maintain our gravel roads ... let me tell you that thing is amazing to be so simply built.
Those T880s have really taken over around here as well and would appear to be one of the most prominent trucks. WE have so many dump trucks around here it seems and all the biggest companies have these now. The land planes certainly have their place and are a great maintenance tool. Thanks for watching Bryan!
That driver is the best I’ve seen
Always loved my granddad would ask what you were gonna be when you grow up and no matter the answer he’d always say “I don’t care a bit what you do if it makes you happy but you best do it the best you can”. This trucker is a perfect example of that! He loves what he does and does the best he can!
That is a great anecdote Todd. Your Granddad is exactly right and trucker Chris is living his best life by doing what he loves and as a result being the master he is. Thanks for the great comment and appreciate you watching!
What a cool truck driver! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Yes indeed. Thanks for checking out the video! You've got a cool channel 👍🏻
@@digdrivediy Thank you. Everything a bit smaller. :)
Great work! Happy, that I’ve found your channel.
A true professional at his craft
You got that right!
That driver has a PhD in tailgating gravel ... he saved you a lot of raking and picking stones out of your sod.
Ha! I like it. "The Spread Doctor" has a nice ring to it. He did make the finishing work much easier!
He is the best i have ever seen! I live on Adams Center road and he spread all of my stone. He can spread backwards the same as forward!!
Yes sir! That's awesome.
Shoot me his number, I need to talk to him!
It’s great to see a Craftsman at his work. One of the best at spreading stone I’ve seen. 👍👍🇺🇸🦅🌏⚓️🇺🇸
It was enjoyable to watch and I was so thankful to capture a bit of an "interview" as well. Thanks for checking it out!
What a fantastic job
It was fun to watch! Thanks David.
This was mesmerizing to watch. It's great to see good folks making difficult things look incredibly easy.
I didn't have a desire to own a dump truck but I'm also looking to trade my F150 for a 250 or 350 for better general use, so maybe the thought is already simmering. Maybe one day.
Thanks George! Everyone can find a use for a dump truck!
chris the dump truck driver was the best iv ever seen.his company should have him teach all the drivers how to put stone down
Boy, isn't he good? I think they do use him to try to train the younger drivers but sometimes it just doesn't stick :)
@@digdrivediy if after a lesson with Chris in stone spreading and an individual still can’t figure it out there’s an excellent chance this career may not be for them..
I work for an asphalt company in Westfield, Indiana. We don’t use Bailey Trucking but they are just right down the road from us in Sheridan.
I’ve had the pleasure of watching this man work in person. Guys an artist
Wow thought my buddy was good this guy is absolutely amazing, great job.
I agree Shane. He's awesome!
Great video! Wow that guy was fantastic on tailgating. Made quick work of that project! Turn out great!
Mr. Elite, I always think of you every time there is some tailgating going on around here! I've enjoyed your videos involving this subject as well and only hoped that you would catch this one just to see what you thought of this driver. This guy was putting on a clinic as far as I was concerned. I still have much to learn. Appreciate so much that you're watching. Take care.
Neil Koch: Dig-Drive-DIY I love your videos they are great. You do such a better job than me explaining what is going on. I watched this video 3 times so I could pick up on the things he was doing. I was amazing how well he did and I like the fact he wasn’t all about speed. Great stuff man 👍🏻
@@eliteearthworksllc Thanks again. That means a lot coming from you. I still feel like I have a lot to learn in the video making department but it is certainly fun trying.
Neil Koch: Dig-Drive-DIY I do too I’m kinda winging it lol. You got a great channel man 👍🏻
Hope you gave him at least a 50.00 tip .He did a great job
He certainly did do a stellar job. Unfortunately I don't think he got a tip but I made a nice video for him to show his grandkids 😋 Thanks for checking it out John!
That looks absolutely amazing. Income tax time is around the corner. Hope when we order gravel we get a driver that good.
I hope for you too James! Chris was just great and fun to watch; wasn't he? It is always nice to have a fresh topcoat. Good luck with your gravel project and thanks so much for watching! (and for subbing 😉)
That’s one thing I could never get the hang of, this guy is awesome you don’t even have to grade anything
You got that right. It was a joy to watch.
That was an awesome part 2. You're videos are fantastic. Chris is the best tailgater I've ever seen. The driveway looks spectacular
Thanks Greg. I thought it turned out pretty good. I hope your Dad is happy with it and appreciate your efforts to help make this job happen. Thanks for watching the videos!
I drive a tipper truck & pup, mostly doing metal out of a quarry so we spread rarely...but this is really handy tips! That old boy is an artist!
First thing I noticed when he pulled the truck up was the bald tires that man knows his truck and dose his job well
That he most certainly does. Good eye catching that right away Matt! Thanks for watching sir!
That Dump truck Pilot could make a UA-cam living just filming his gravel pours.
For sure!
I hope you pay extra for this outstanding service
Nice job of that driveway too BTW!
That truck 🚚 driver is awesome
Oh yeah, for sure! He was fun to watch.
Great job 1st class.. 👍🏼 to the dump truck driver 👍🏼
I had such a good time watching him spread this driveway. Thanks for checking it out sir! Cool to see your name pop up in the comments. 👍
Driver did a hell of a job.
I agree with him on the automatic too. I’ve driven manuals up until last year and you can’t beat it. My left knee thanks me too.
I agree. There is something about shifting that makes it feel like a "truck truck", but once you get over worrying about that, the automatic is the only way to go. My little F-750 dump truck is an automatic and I love it that way. I'm with you on the thankful knee as well!
I really appreciate this video most especially the words of wisdom.
Thanks Miles that makes me feel glad for doing this type of video. I was just so impressed with him and the impromptu interview was just perfect. Thanks for watching!
This driver is very impressive! You guys do great work! We have a driver like him in NC that really goes over and beyond for his customers! Love seeing skilled Tradesmen!
Hey thanks Triad Dirt Works!! Yeah, this guy was fun to sit back and watch for sure. Always refreshing when you get to witness a master of the trade. Thanks for watching. I checked out your channel. Looking good!
@@digdrivediy Thank you man! We are just starting out with UA-cam! We really love showing our livelihood to everyone!
Ya gotta take pride in your work. Have a blessed and safe day.
Thanks William. This driver certainly proves that when you care about the job you're doing, it will show up in the quality of work. Thanks for watching.
We have a 1300 ft gravel driveway I maintain myself with a tractor/loader and box blade/angle blade/ landscape rake. I am always trying to learn techniques and your videos are awesome!
Thanks so much! That's a lot of driveway to keep after. Appreciate you watching.
That was a great interview love the pictures of his old trucks. This guy is a pro. Incredible!
Great video as always keep up the great work
Thanks I really appreciate it Marla. Glad to have you checking out the videos.
Hello, so when charging the customer for a job like this , do you have a per sq. ft. price when you figure up the job?? Thanks Paul
Actually for this I just charge time and materials and I don't fool around with trying to estimate it. They paid for the stone + trucking + 5 hrs when I was all done and were pleased. You have to pay yourself whatever it takes to make it worthwhile. Probably nothing under $50/hr when using the tractors.
Its NOT very hard to do... when you have an automatic truck, level ground, no above wires...lets be real.
The spreading part might be less challenging, but starting and stoping exactly where you want to turn it on and off takes some skill and experience. But to be real, if it were not that hard to do we wouldn't see so many drivers struggle with it. I'm sure if you're in a truck every day you have no doubt seen that too. Thanks for watching!
I have been around a lot people that can spread stones but this guy is pretty impressive
I thought so too David. The way he started at the edge of the concrete without any direction from anyone was truly a display of skill and years of experience. Thanks for watching the video!
Those lines look good.
He’s good at what he do
Wow! That is some picture perfect work! Love watching your videos Neil you definitely take pride in your work 👍🏻
Hey thanks a bunch Full Tilt. I just try to approach every job as if it were my own and I think that anyone who has that mind set will naturally want to try to do their best. I see that in all your work as well. Thanks for watching and I'll catch you again over on your channel soon I bet.
Pride in your craft, above all else 💪
Yessir. It is nice to still see it these days.
I do the same thing he does for a living and yes this guy is absolutely amazing
I thought so too Mike. Thanks for watching and offering up that comment.
I absolutely love watching a man that knows his job, and does it Damn GOOD.
I know what you mean!
I am glad I found your channel, courtesy of captain kleeman you have very interesting jobs, well explained and easy to watch.👍👍🇬🇧
Thanks Ronald I really appreciate your feedback. Great to have you on board and I hope that you continue to find the channel enjoyable. Thanks for saying hi!
Chris is an artist in his trade. Rare find.
For sure!
Terrific workmanship all round. Pleasure to see men proud of work, credit to you all, especially the spreading of the stone aggregate , well done,
Thanks for the kind words. It is rewarding to see someone who really cares about the job they're doing. Appreciate you watching.
That's one nice driveway. It has very clean edges and a smooth finish . Nice work you really know what your doing!
Thanks Anthony I really appreciate it. It is very enjoyable to me to do this type of thing so I really like to make it look as nice as possible. Just like the driver mentioned in this video you have to care about your work and I think that is what makes the difference.
Beautiful Beautiful job 👍
He certainly made it easier too! Thanks for watching!
When it comes to snow removal, be sure to get a set of "edge tamers" to clamp on your bucket. When you see them, you'll know how they work. Move the snow, not the gravel.
I haven't heard of them but I will be glad to check them out. I am a big proponent of trying to only move snow and not stone. Thanks for the tip and for checking out the channel!
@@digdrivediy , you can see them in action on "Tractor Time with Tim". In addition to removing snow and not gravel, he also uses them to shovel soil (digging a ditch for water line) off grass and not tearing up the turf. (2" size=$100. use TTWT promo code)
The 2nd Best driveway in the USA! Dang it looks amazing! You need to take this on the road around America!
Tailgating is one of my favorite things to do. It gets harder to do the bigger the truck is.
Oh I bet so. Wish I was better at it for sure. So, how does this guy rate on your scale? Thanks so much for checking it out!
*Easy money! looks good* #WorldsOkayestFarmer
Hey I've heard of you! Thanks for stopping by and appreciate the comment!
Neil Koch: Dig-Drive-DIY *I have a business doing the same type of work. Are last names prob pronounced the same way only mine is spelled kotch. You do a nice job editing your vids.*
@@WorldsOkayestFarmer Hey thanks! The editing takes longer than the project sometimes! That's cool that you have a business doing this. I often wish I could do it full time but then maybe I wouldn't like it so much. We pronounce our last name really weird, more like the actual German pronunciation. We say "Koaf", like it rhymes with "Loaf". It's strange. 😂
That guy has talent!
He sure does!
I’m sure Jerry was proud of this driver! RIP Jerry, I miss having coffee together old friend, made me tear up seeing his picture. Bailey has some of the best drivers.
Glad to see this comment. I never had the privilege to meet Jerry Bailey but I always heard good things about him. I think that Chris from this video and his Dad both drove for Baileys for quite a few years although I only know that from the grapevine. I'm thankful to have someone such as yourself that knew him to be commenting here. Appreciate you watching sir. Take care!
This driver is amazing wow.
I was blown away watching him lay that stone in there like he did! Real talent there.
That guys amazing.. great spreading wisdom
I agree John. I was thankful to catch it on video. Thanks for watching!
Paystar 5000 an the rd model mack are some of the toughest trucks built
Dude LOVE the videos! I’m looking to start my own business as I currently work at a Rock Quarry. You and your guys and Chris done an amazing job on this project! Those crisp lines and smooth grading look so professional and it’s super satisfying for my girlfriend and I to watch! It gets me pumped up and inspired to start my own business and finish jobs with those perfect expectations!
Hey thanks a bunch! I love it when someone wants to take pride in their work. I really just think of every job like it's my own place. Appreciate you watching and good luck with starting a business!
My best friend lives in Columbia city!
You're in our neck of the woods for sure. Columbia City sounds like next door in relation to the UA-cam world! Glad to have you watching Rob!
That guy definitely makes you a lot of money
He's good.
I can't see plowing that do you
Get snow
We get some snow. You have to be mindful when plowing this. It can be done with minimal damage but not usually by someone that you hire to do it (gotta do it yourself!) Thanks for watching Brad!
I have a 316 and 330 and I am so jealous of that 755 with FEL. I have been trying to talk myself into buying a 1025r and trading my 300’s in on it for a few years but I just have a hard time getting rid of them.
Awesome video
Thanks Beau! If I were you I'd want to keep the 300s as well! I would keep those two and look for an older compact like the 755 or 855. I have two 755s for less than the cost of one new 1025r! Appreciate you watching! (Oh, and several other videos on here of my little tractors working if you're interested)
I work for that dump truck company. Great people to work with. This guy here has been working for them for over 30 years and I was told he's the best stone spreader they have and top guy too. I can now see why. I got some learning to do
I love watching him work!
COOL!
nice job.... would Love to learn. on a personal note... Ill take an 8LL over an auto any day... thats just me
Thanks Larry! I would love to be as good as spreading as this guy! I certainly don't mind shifting now and then, but I do really appreciate the auto in my dump truck too. If I had to choose I'd take one of each! Appreciate you watching.
Been doing that for 25 yrs, that boy almost good as me😁Just kidding, best I ever seen.
Ha! That's funny. Yeah, this guy is just flat out impressive. I wondered if anyone would ever call me out on claiming "the best dump truck driver" but so far everyone seems to think he is pretty dang good. Thanks so much for checking it out Don!
I think that dump truck driver was trying to put you out of business.
He certainly is making business a little easier! I was glad to have him on this job.
Never thought of using an edger like that. I need one, ha. Thanks for the video!!!
Sure thing Verle!
This is truly a skill... Love watching and listenig to gravel being spread! This is a great video!
I love this one too. I love the smell of limestone! :)
Chris is awesome guy! Known him for years
I certainly enjoyed getting to meet him and watch him work. He seems like the type of guy that is just easy to get along with. Hopefully someone will make him aware of this video. Be interesting to know if he sees it. Thanks for commenting Johnathan.
How much did you have to pay those folks to have all that fun Neil ;) . Thanks for sharing
Ha! Yeah, it is a good time it's hard to charge too much :)
hope it never snows there
You mean in terms of plowing? It doesn't snow like it used to around here so fortunately won't likely need plowed too much. That is a risk of pushing a bunch of stones off the top with this kind of top coating, but there are a number of ways to prevent it as well. For us, the best method is wheel packing the snow first by driving on it before plowing. This works the best for me at home and my entire driveway is loose stone. I just drive around on the snow and then the blade rides on top of the wheel pack. It is something to consider for sure though cause if someone comes in to plow that doesn't know what they're doing they will probably make a heck of a mess. Thanks for making a good point and thanks for watching!
Awesome, just awesome
Appreciate it
That Chris sure looks like David Soul 😊 Great job tailgating that stone
I had to Google "David Soul" but yes, now I can see the resemblance. I wonder if anyone has ever told him that or not. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
Yes, a fine job for sure!
Thanks. I think they were happy with it and it was a fun project.
Great guy I need someone like him to drive my trucks
He sure is Robert.
Growing up on a farm in Upstate NY, I had the chance to see and work with a lot of gifted excavators and truckers. I have only known one guy who was a good as you with a backhoe, but I don't think I have ever seen anyone as in control of their dump body as this guy. Of course, the soil and terrain is a bit more challenging here, with the shale and random car-sized rocks everywhere, but still. Nice to watch a virtuoso performance. Keep up the good work, and keep the videos coming!
I thank you kindly for your words James. I too felt like I was watching a master of his craft. I don't know how I hadn't been exposed to this driver before having spent my entire life here, but he showed up to the job and I was just so impressed. Upstate New York sounds like an interesting place to do excavating work. I've only ever been up that way to do snowmobiling in the Adirondacks so I wouldn't know too much about the shale and rocks but sounds challenging. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
He does a good job
Boy, he sure does. It was fun to watch him lay it all down like it was nothing. Good stuff.
