  • Frank Bello is known for bringing his own distinct style and energetic passion to Anthrax. He somehow manages to merge complex melodic riffs, not typically associated within that genre, with dizzying speed and accuracy -all while headbanging, romping around the stage, and dashing up to the mic to sing harmonies.
    In addition to the specific tones Frank wanted, a major priority was to make the Street Driver 48 simple to operate. He didn’t want a zillion knobs, switches, or gratuitous bells & whistles. He wanted players to be able to get a great sound right out of the box, whether it’s for metal or R&B or prog rock, whether novice or expert, whether young or advanced in years.

    What a breath of fresh air. Im a little tired of all the Darkglass in the world of bass.

    • @KillerFridge

      Tell me about it. Darkglass was a breath of fresh air when they first hit the scene, but honestly they all sound the same now. I'll always give time to Tech 21 though, they just sound great (and varied!); I'd love to see more character pedals though

      I personally love Darkglass and have the Microtubes X Ultra for myself. That being said, I hate that everyone is trying to get the exact blended distortion tone that you get from splitting the signal in your DAW. I use mine to carve my own tone, not emulate someone else's.

      @broomwinkle 4 місяці тому +4

      I think it really depends what you like. For me I personally can't stand this pedal as drive isn't tight enough and is way too scoped, which is the opposite for the Darkglass stuff so I love it. But it is a little annoying that everyone uses it!

      @@The_Metal_Mechanic after owning all of their analog drives I've really come to love the VMT. It's got that clear flavor but much more amplike than some of the other offerings.

    I just bought the Sansamp Frank Bello Street Driver 48 to add to my Sansamp collection,
    it's a killer unit, 😀👍
    and very versatile if you spend some time tweaking the knobs you could get a variety of usable tones / sounds from it.😊

    I just got the SD48 along with a Seymour Duncan Studio Bass Compressor. I run through the compressor first and then the SD48 and it sounds ridiculously good!

    The ESP Surveyor is my main bass. Heavy, but probably the best bass ever to exist. Perfect neck, ebony fingerboard, looks awesome, great pickups and sounds great with any replacement (I still got the default Seymour Duncan Vintage PJ).

    Killer preamp 😎🤘🏻🎸 I totally dig how gritty and heavy it sounds. And it’s pretty cool that you play a variety of heavy metal classics with this pedal.

      Wonder why on Sweetwater the pedal has a 3.0/ 5.0 ⭐️ rating…… unless it’s the price, or the pedal itself wasn’t overly marketed like SH-1 or Dug pedal?

    Nice! I've never owned a Sansamp but I'm really liking the tones on this one and tbh, I usually don't use a dirty tone on bass but this sounds effing killer. I'm a huge fan of Frank Bello and Anthrax too. Imo, he doesn't get his due.
    May I suggest to do another video highlighting the cleaner tones? Can this one still get a good Geddy Lee tone and such?
    If it does both Frank and Getty well, sign me up!👍
    Good on using it straight into the power amp too. Thx for the review.

    There is definitely a place for this pedal, just not on my board. I do love how well the Frank Bello EMGs sound with this pedal. It is pure evidence that his name wasn't just slapped on these products for name recognition, as they do a fantastic job recreating his sound.

    I wonder why Tech21 did not also put a DI-out into their YYZ pedal. They had so many updates of it and as you can see with this Street driver, it would have been possible. I would have prefered the YYZ as you can blend in some clean bass to the distorted signal. One thing the Street driver does not offer.

    • @Tech21nyc
      @Tech21nyc 4 місяці тому +2

      Don't let the outside fool you. First & foremost, as is the case with all our signature gear, it is designed to the artist's specifications. With its overdrive, the original YYZ and MP40/YYZ Shape-shifter were not intended to be the LAST pedal in most chains. There would also be a trade-off, as a battery wouldn't fit if we included an XLR. Frank's pedal has an XLR, but there's no room for a battery compartment, which is why we include the power supply. Hope that helps!

      @@Tech21nyc Thank you for taking the time to answer me. I know that Tech21 products are designed with a lot of thought. For me the SH-1 is the ideal pedal for live use. It has everything I need. I like the design with two gain/master settings because that way I can drive my sound clean and dirty, the 4-band EQ, the two mid frequencies allow a lot, just like I knew from my old GK 800RB head. Plus it has the DI out to send to FOH. The tuner is also very important to me. So I have everything I need in one mini fly rig. The pedal is really almost made for me. And not to forget, the sound is praised by the audience and fellow musicians. Thanks to Tech21 and Steve Harris.
