    Put the handle on the other side of the hinge and the tool balances out perfect with the battery in it

    I have been using this trimmer for about a month with a 5ah batt. I trim for about 20min straight then have enough battery left for blowing. Lot is about 10,000 Sq feet so not huge but average home in CA, pretty much standard grass no tall thick weeds. So for reference if your looking. I love it and for my average size lot run time is fine.

    I have this trimmer, for home use only, use a 6ah battery, can do my average size yard no problem. I have a 10ah 20v battery for work, when I use it on the trimmer, I lose 1 bar by the time I finish. It's a ok trimmer.

    Great information; I can attest to trimmer and blower eating through 5 Ah batteries. I got mine in the trimmer/blower kit for $199 USD Home Depot. I really wanted to try the FlexVolt version, BUT ouch; FlexVolt tool price! I did get the DeWalt lawnmower WITH (2) 20v 9Ah FlexVolt batteries in a kit; it REALLY need them.

    I been seeing this with the blower as a kit lately saw it hanging at home depot picked it up its a very nice tool I'm 6 foot 3 and I also agree having to bend over to use it but I also have to bend over to use my stihl Kombisystem 131 R kombi motor as well so its not bad love the 2 speed as well as the very nice variable speed trigger and i do also like the safety lock love the power if the unit will have a video soon On it as well great review Brian @WorkshopAddict

    I was interested in the DeWalt string trimmer, blower and lawnmower. I bought and returned their pole saw, it was way under powered and leaked every where, add in the mower price increase and it knocked DeWalt out of the yard section for me. I've gone EGO Blower, Trimmer, Lawnmower.

    I had the DCST920 last year and that sucker went through batteries like a kid with candy! I had two 5 A-hr batteries and was usually waiting on charges more often than I was trimming. I sold it and got an Ego instead. No regrets at all!

      The FV and 8.0Ah batteries make these smaller trimmers last much longer.

      It does not matter what brand name you buy. I bought a set of Makita Trimmer and Blower with one battery only. Then, I had to buy extra two more batteries in case it runs out juice. I was trying to modify this trimmer to use as brush cutter, but not luck yet.

  • @JeffreyNevrotski
    @JeffreyNevrotski 4 роки тому

    You gotta go with the flexvolt model. You wont get a power increase if its not a 60v model. You will only get a longer run time if you use a flexvolt battery in a 20 v tool

    Brian, I have been thinking about this trimmer every time I fold down the rear seat to fit my Makita X2 trimmer in my car to landscape my mother-in-laws home. I know, it's a silly, hardly inconvenient first world problem, but I can't help it! The Makita bump feed works like crap- I pretty much push the button and pull the strings out manually. I go through ten feet of Ace Hardware .080" trim line so fast what with all the rocks and stone walls and cracks in the sidewalk spouting weeds. Sometimes, it will break off and I will have to take the spool off just to fix it. I have not yet tried the overnight soaking of the trim line, but I understand why that would help. The only thing is, I don't currently have a Dewalt charger or battery, and, of course, I would want the yellow "fast charger." Maybe I could find someone who would trade a Dewalt charger for a Makita!

    • @WorkshopAddict
      @WorkshopAddict  4 роки тому +1

      If you are in Michigan I would be glad to help you out. I have chargers. LOL. I understand exactly what you are going through. IMHO, this is the perfect traveler. BTW, Try the Stihl .080 line. They have some that is pro use and it rocks.

      @@WorkshopAddict I took my trimmer-head off my XRU07 hoping I could adapt an Echo Speed-Feed 400 head onto there. Like the Dewalt, it has a quick-wind feature, plus it holds a lot more string. Unfortunately, my trimmer head has an M8-1.25 RH nut that screws onto the trimmer. Later Makitas, and I believe your Dewalt use a M10-1.25 LH thread. I think I can make a new nut for the Echo head to fit the Makita.
      AIso, I found a video where a guy glues a washer to the bump feed button to keep it from wearing out, which seems like a good idea, but it would need to be in balance.

    • @dahut3614

      Of course, if I'm buying another one, I could keep one at each house...

    • @dahut3614
      @dahut3614 4 роки тому

      Okay, I bought the Echo SpeedFeed 400 head. I had to make the bushing- we had some 3/4" hex aluminum at work and I bought a M8-1.25 tap. I also had to make a 5/16" spacer out of a 1 ½" PVC Schedule 80 plug because the Makita's threaded shaft was too long. Winding the line is easy now and the bump feed works well. The line that came with it is .095" Cross-Fire. It's vicious and it scares me!

  • @wildbill23c

    If they would come out with one that accepts readily available attachments I'd buy one, until then I have to keep my Troy Bilt Trimmer Plus unit. It works great, but since I have so many batteries for Dewalt stuff already and 2 Flexvolt batteries for a 60V chainsaw, I'd love to go cordless with the trimmer if I could get attachment capability and compatibility. I don't use the trimmer much but if I just had to connect a battery I'd most likely use it much more often with other attachments. Dewalt has once again failed at innovation, Stihl has a cordless system already that uses their Combi attachments.

    Seems like a nice trimmer...it's well made and has good performance...but DeWalt should have at least given it a 15'' swath. At 14'', it has a 2'' smaller swath than Milwaukee's M18 Trimmer. That makes a big difference when trimming a large area.

    It seems the best deal currently is the Ryobi 40V brushed unit going for $139 with battery while the brushless unit is $200. Have you tested the 40V Ryobi unit? I like it because it takes the old Ryobi attachments such as blower, edger, etc. I think the price is cheaper than the battery at $150.

    • @WorkshopAddict

When i walked in, the repair tech laughed and said he’d repaired 15 in the last week. He said it’s a design flaw where the motor sucks in dirt and debris and breaks. He replaced motors on both of mine three months ago and one has already broken again since.
