This was one of the many videos the guys did during lockdown! They were in their own homes recording while Austin (the lead here) was the only one in the studio. They had a magician, Jimmy Bates, who editing everything together to make this happen! Austin is a very prolific song writer besides an awesome singer. Their “Stargazer Trilogy”, where all 3 songs were his originals, in this order: Give Me a Sign, Stargazer Lilies, MR, in that order. Her wrote them for his lovely lady, Amberly, and also the very recently released song, “Playing With Fire”. Welcome to the world of Home Free! You are going to be blown away and you will love every minute of it!
M - Thanks for diving into this immediately! It's one of their best, and they did it while quarantined!!! Each member recorded his part in a makeshift home recording "studio", and then HF's sound engineer assembled all the parts...that's why they appeared separately on TV monitors. You're now two videos into HF's huge catalog of great a cappella performances...so you're a Home Fry!! You'll get tons of suggestions for more HF songs, but save "Mayday" until you know the guys and their voices really well. You'll understand why when you get there. 🙂 Corker X
Welcome to the Home Free family ... try their "Helplessly Hoping" , "Brothers In Arms" or " I Can't Outrun You" for stunning harmony . Then try " The Butts Medley " , " Hillbilly Bone " or " Can't Stop The Feeling " for their goofiness ! Oh heck , just listen to anything they do ... I promise you'll love everything ! Can't wait til you hear Home Free Christmas music !
Hi Maddy, Percy Sledge sang the original version, Michael Bolton did a great cover of it also, and now Home Free gave it their own twist and took it to another level for us "Homefries" to enjoy!!! You're right once again, Homefries do not mind the rewind!!! Remember, we have already welcomed you into the fan club, "yes" you are a "HOMEFRY!!!" Next up, please consider reacting to their Boyz II Men cover of the song "END OF THE ROAD" you'll be glad you did too!!!
Yes! "End of the Road" is a great choice. While HF specializes in country music, "When a Man Loves a Woman" and "End of the Road" are soul/R&B hits...demonstrating HF's versatility and incredible talent! This one showcases Austin and "End of the Road" shows what Rob can do!
Each member of Home Free, with the exception of Adam Rupp, their beat boxer, has songs where they are the lead singer. They are all phenomenal! Their latest music video is another Austin Brown lead, “Playing with Fire”. I hope you’ll react to it.
The legendary status of our Home Free vocalists just keeps mounting to greater accolades that is very deserving of our attention. They are simply amazing and yet they are very humble. It is a privilege to enjoy their vocal gifts!!!! ❣
Great reaction Maddy! If you get a chance to see them live, you won't be disappointed. IMO, you're already a Home Fry. This was made during Covid, so each of the guys recorded their piece remotely. The only one in the studio was the lead Austin. His girlfriend was with him near the camera so he was looking at her while singing. That was why he could put so much emotion into the song. Hard to remember it's all vocals!
Maddy, must here their latest release, an original by Austin, the lead vocal you just heard. It is called Playing with Fire. When you listen you will understand the creativity this group possesses. Welcome to the Home Fry community!!!!
Maddy, you may have the impression from this and Man of Constant Sorrow that Austin is THE lead singer. He leads on many songs, but all can lead (although Adam sticks to beatboxing and harmonies) and you will find plenty of songs where one or the other leads, where they trade off the lead, or when there really is no lead. In many ways what makes Home Free so special is that all of these talented singers will take the supporting role and do it so well: it is often harder to be the harmony, it shows respect for your mate to let them shine, and the willingness to do so shows through in the personalities they reveal and make us all love them for being the kind of guys you'd love having in your neighborhood (except maybe when Tim spends a day standing in a rowboat in the backyard in a pirate costume singing sea shanties over and over).
Austin did a fabulous job of this classic song. Loved Percy Sledge's version, but this was taken to another level. I think it is also better than Michael Bolton's version. And remember this was done during quarantine, so the guys weren't even together. The backing harmonies are great, along with Tim's bass. And Adam's vocal percussion is outstanding. Drummers have often commented on just how realistic his sound is. This is why these guys are my favorite a cappella group.
Never cared for this song, but the boys killed it. You're right about everything being great. Amazing backing harmonies. Percussion perfection from Adam Rupp. And Austin just taking off to the heavens as an afterthought. I suggest The Driver, I Can't Outrun You, Playing With Fire, or Helplessly Hoping next, but really you can't go wrong with anything they do.
I also didn’t really like this song that much before, which sort of perplexed me, because I should have! I would actually AVOID listening to it, both the Percy Sledge and Michael Bolton versions, which is unlike me because I have very eclectic taste in music. The singers were good and so was the writing but I always had an uneasy feeling in my stomach when I heard them. Weird, I know. (Stand By Me is another that everyone loves but for some baffling reason I just don’t). However, this version finally made it a song I love and will listen to happily. Maybe the background harmonies and Austin’s undeniable passion?
@@FavoriteMovieDate I think I finally figured out why I never liked it. It's just so repetitive - the same phrase over and over and over and ..... I have the same issue with End of the Road and Delta Dawn, 2 more that HF covers amazingly well. Still don't like the songs, but the boys are perfection.
Their Reditions of Folsom Prison, Brothers In Arms, American Pie (With Don McLean) & Austin & Rob's version of the Operatic Aria, Nessum Dorma are awesome. Then again anything they do is awesome as are Pentatonix & Voiceplay.
We warned you 😅 they are so good they are addictive. Recommendations : Playing with Fire (written by the lead singer in this one) Austin Brown, an original and their latest release, End of the Road (cover of The Boyz2Men early 90's hit, and Castle on the Hill a cover of Ed Sheeran's hit from a few years ago. 😊
They have so many great songs !! Brothers in arms, Mayday, One Man Band, Helplessly Hoping , Ring of Fire to name a few!! You will definitely love going down this Home Free Rabbit hole.
HF released this video, and Brown released a solo cover of "Unchained Melody" plus an original love song called "Take the Night Off" over the same Valentine's Day weekend. The mere mortals among us had to take vows of celibacy.
The three best a cappella groups (as far as my own taste goes) are Pentatonix, Home Free and Voiceplay. They each seem to dominate their own genres. Pentatonix does mainly pop, Home Free does country and Voiceplay does Disney songs. Sometimes they diversify but they always keep the quality. I urge you to listen to all of them! You will not be disappointed!
Great reaction Maddy. Austin Brown's fiancé was sitting in the studio with Austin, and he was singing this song to her. I think it added just that little extra soul. Percy sledge is looking down from heaven saying, "Well damn, this boy can SANG and he's doing my song justice". Oh and the sound you were wondering about was Adam Rupp the beatboxer, just one of a bunch of sounds he makes.
The 3 best acapella groups out there are HF (country) VoicePlay (theater, Disney, video games) and Pentatonix (pop/rock). All of them are great, but HF is just a class act. Great guys who love their fans, family values, no politics. Great review! Keep smiling.
Home Free is so good. They’ve been releasing a lot of new videos lately that they wrote. Playing with Fire is the newest release, Skull and Bones is a new pirate song for a pirate game Chance wrote (short dark hair). There is a lyric video only and a short live one for the Ubisoft people (game maker). Tim goes insanely low in it. Btw, this song above is during Covid and that’s why they used the tvs. Clever idea. They put out a lot of content during Covid and it kept me sane. They are known for incredible harmonies. Some of the best would be Helplessly Hoping, One Man Band, I Can’t Outrun You (lots of bass), Die a Happy Man, In the Blood. Enjoy!😍
Welcome to the rabbit hole! Lots of great suggestions; although billed as a country vocal band they sing many genres, as you can see here. Listen to enough of their songs to learn each members sound and roles they generally fill before listening to May Day. That way you can enjoy the surprise of the song. Reactors that have not waited until they knew the guys have admitted they should have waited. We Home Fries will never steer you wrong. Be advised, their performances range from the ridiculous to the sublime. You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. But they are always phenomenal. I enjoyed your reaction and have subbed for more Home Free reactions
Your reaction to this performance, reminded me of the way you were affected by the duet of John Farnham and Olivia Newton John; and I thought of another love song you might like, it's called The Reason Why by John Farnham with Richard Marx.
Just subscribed. Welcome to the Home Free Rabbit Hole. I'll enjoy watching you come to adore then as much as their Home Fry fans do. Just wait until you get to know their personalitiesand sense of humor.
Becoming a Homefry may be inevitable 🙂 Have you ever heard Bobby Caldwell's "What You Won't Do For Love", one of those great soulful songs from the 70's.
Subscribed for Home Free. Thanks. There are so many to choose from to acquaint yourself with their range and versatility. A few medleys that showcase their personalities and playfulness, are The Butts Remix and Country Fried Pop. Then there’s the fun covers of All About the Bass, My Church & Hillbilly Bone. The serious stuff like In the Blood (a favorite of mine) End of the Road & Brothers in Arms. And of course the collaborations Elvira, American Pie & Children Go Where I Send Thee ( wonderful). After all that you can do Mayday but wait because you need to get to know them before you can really appreciate the range & versatility that Mayday demonstrates
So glad to see that you discovered Home Free. Other suggestions: How Great Thou Art, In the Blood, Brothers in Arms, Sea Shanty Medley, 9 to 5, All About Tha' Bass. I'll stop there. But then move to Voiceplay...We Don't Talk About Bruno, Hide and Seek (Ding Dong) (with Lauren Paley) And then move to The Bass Gang...Hide and Seek (Ding Dong) (with Lauren Paley), Hooked on a Feeling (with Tim Foust) The rabbit hole goes deep.
Home Free was on a TV show called the Sing Off years ago where they competed against other groups. You should check it out, especially their rendition of Ring of Fire. I think you'll really enjoy it.
Home free sings unchained melody but Austin brown sings a version by himself called “unchained melody like you’ve never heard before”. You should listen to it.
I have been introduced to a new genre of music through you. You have such a wonderful attitude and sweet heart that is becoming rarer, unfortunately. Blessings

I love there mash up of 👉Thinking Out Loud/ Let's Get It On👈 ( Ed Sheeran and Marvin Gaye ) And there cover of (Cams) song 👉MayDay👈 i seen them live in Austin Texas last year and they sounded just like in the videos its not studio trickery. There the real deal😮
🎼🎼🎈🎈🎈💧🎈🎈🎈🎼🎼🎈🎈🎈💧🎈🎈🎈🎼🎼 yeppp ... you did it Maddy. I think you will calling yourself a "home-fry" very soon !!!! This is some damn good singing .. wooooooo -- hoooooooo !! Great choice , great choice , great choice ❄️❄️💙❄️❄️
Subbed for more Home Free! Good reaction! Suggest: Sea Shanty Medley, Brothers In Arms, Brother, Workin For A Livin, Skull And Bones (both Live & Lyric versions, together), Hillbilly Bone, &, well, any of the 170+ videos of theirs! (Not counting the ton of other videos found on UA-cam.) Then there's the individual channels of Austin Brown, Adam Chance, and Tim Foust to explore...
You’re definitely ‘on the path’ (at a minimum). I agree with those who suggested not passing up an opportunity to see them live if you get the chance. My wife and I saw them in June 2022. Just amazing. Also surprisingly loud, but very clear. It seems to me that most reactors as well as most HF fans have HF’s version of “Man Of Constant Sorrow” in common as their ‘gateway drug’ that reels them in for good. EDIT-sorry, I was pretty sure that your take on Man of Constant Sorrow is what drew mw to your channel. I clicked on the video in hour HF folder and MOCS wasn’t listed there. That was my confusion posting the above.
For a fun song react to the Butts Medley. Listen to the Music is a favorite of mine as well. You are probably ready for Mayday too. I love it when someone fall in love with Home Free.
You know, for all the people complaining about UA-cams faults, you have to admit, it's great in one aspect. I love seeing reaction videos of people from different stereotypical cultures, coming together and enjoying other stereotypical cultures. We are all Americans, and if we keep reacting in a positive way, we can overcome and be a true melting pot of acceptance and experiences.
Another great acapella band is voiceplay. If you like great bass voices, and great beatboxing, and disney, check out their cover of "We don't talk about Bruno" from Encanto! It is well worth a listen!!!

it is hard to believe "End of the Road" hasn't been reacted to yet. That is usually one of the first one to have one jump into the Fries basket. lol
Pentatonix might have something to say about that.@@mikemccauley3487

Austin sings his heart out. Could be because his lady-love was there in the studio.
The legendary status of our Home Free vocalists just keeps mounting to greater accolades that is very deserving of our attention. They are simply amazing and yet they are very humble. It is a privilege to enjoy their vocal gifts!!!! ❣
His momma blessed the world with that boy! I’m a huge Austin Brown fan. His latest song for his wife is adorable.
Their covers of Helplessly Hoping, Listen To The Music, Working For a Livin', Ring of Fire, and Folsom Prison Blues are all a must listen. 🙌✌️

Stereotypical cultures? Lol
@@MaddyReactions you understand what I'm saying, right? Do you have an argument, or just a lol, response?
Another great acapella band is voiceplay. If you like great bass voices, and great beatboxing, and disney, check out their cover of "We don't talk about Bruno" from Encanto! It is well worth a listen!!!
