For those of you who are wondering why the first few laps the guy with the motor led, is because drafting is hugely important and they all agree to not actually sprint until the last few laps to use less energy and more strategies, whoever is in first place uses the most energy and when you sprint, drafting is highly important, you use 30% more energy in the front
They don’t agree not to sprint… they aren’t allowed to until the derny (moped) goes to the side
They should honestly just have lanes like in track, but if they like how it is then idc

You are allowed to sprint, it's just useless, everybody is going to use your draft to accelerate and then you'll be last.

My comment was aimed towards the audio quality of the broadcast, rather than the accent of the presenters. But a very astute observation! Reminds me of the time an English speaking German friend stayed with me... Anytime someone who didn't speak with the Western American or General American dialect spoke, he needed a translation! He had particular trouble with the Inland & Mountain Southern dialect!

I feel for him too. In addition to this, his bike broke while contesting his qualifying attempt for the flying 200. It was a tough thing, because while I’m sure he is a superb cyclist, he wasn’t really on the same level as the medalists this year, and he always looked genuinely sorry for making a scene.

Basically like that, because Keirin was invented in Japan as an organized sport. It's centered around gambling (basically mechanical horses) and all bikes (in Japan) are made to spec, heavily controlled by private regulatory authorities.

Adderall Two avoiding pulling their foot out of the pedal. It's a second way to ensure the foot stays clipped in at height intensity sprinting.
Adderall Their bikes have fixed gears. The rear wheel moves only when the pedal moves, and stops when the pedaling stops. No brakes, so the way to slow down during high speeds is by pushing the pedal with one foot and pulling (hence the strap) with the other.

Who thinks one of the coaches had oil on his hand and touched the tire of the guy that fell at the start? I saw several of the guys legs where oiled, could someone explain why the cyclists use oil on their legs? I can understand if it's to eliminate chaffing but some of them had oil all the way past their knees...

There are 8 laps behind a power moped ir scooter that get progressively faster than on the 4th lap it goes off the track. Then with about 2.5 laps left its an all out sprint to the finish.

Why dont they just cut the length of the race to just two laps then, i dont get it.... and whats the point of restarting the race when one racer made a mistake, in track and field it would be his own problem.

seems quite simple to me, they follow the leading biker that sets the pace for a few laps and when its like 3 laps left he drops off the track and the riders go as fast as they can for the remaining part to try and win.
