Cycling Track Men's Omnium Elimination Race Full Replay from the Velodrome at the London 2012 Olympic Games. -- 4 August 2012
Cycling is among the rare sports that have always featured on the Olympic programme. Road cycling, however, was not on the programme of the Paris 1900, St Louis 1904 or London 1908 Games, while track cycling wasn't in the programme of the Stockholm 1912 Games.
The first road event in Olympic history took place in 1896 on the marathon route at the first Games of the modern era in Athens. The race started in Athens, headed towards Marathon, then returned to Athens, at the Phaliron velodrome.
Olympic cycling was added to the women's programme in Los Angeles in 1984, with an individual road event.

I like this event.
Tactical, speed and endurance at once. Exciting too. No ease off or you're caught out.
This and the team pursuit are becoming my favorite events
Watch the madison - it is amazing!
I agree
that hong kong guy was so irritating
Soooo bad
Good grief, Clancy's out of his right pedal at 11:34, you can still see him being out of it at 11:52. Great effort on his part!
I hope they add this to the running events in the track. Everyone doing an all out sprint at the end not to be last just to do it all over again.
Yes! Since running in someone’s slipstream allows you to use less energy, it’s only fair to give the athlete at the front a bonus for leading. In addition to eliminating the runner in last, give points to the one at the front. Requires greater fitness of the runners and more interesting for the spectators.
The race starts 4:40 in to this video, if you're the impatient sort.
this looks so brutal
Lol whats with people staying in? Need a better system here...
May be 7 years late but I can understand. Especially at some time until 10:20, when I thought Choi Ki Ho was eliminated earlier, but he somehow thought he managed stay barely on.
At the speed the race is going, you can't expect the riders to count who is in and who is out. Coquard just managed to keep someone behind him and that's all that matters in this race. The thing is the Honk Kong guy messed up everything by staying in the race and I hope there were according sanctions...
Choi Ki Ho really did mess up the pack a bit.
They should have a small light on their Handel bars that flashes when they're out
@@supernoodles908 they do! Choi Ki Ho just completely ignored it
@@joeflores8394 thanks for letting me know :)
@@joeflores8394 it wasn't on the first time he got eliminated. Take a look at 7:20
coquard is the best in this type of race , he uses tactics , holds only 1 person back so he knows he will get through
Coquard has'nt lost an elimination race since three years ! He is the best in this type of race...
And it's not his fault, only officials ;)
We used to call this race "Devil-Take-the-Hindmost." Good name, yeah?
Just love it
4:39 Start.
8acun thanks
How it should work is everybody has an ear piece and if they get out they out the ear piece goes crazy
That is not the outrageous part of this event. It is the most unfair sporting event I have ever seen.
Each of them has a little box mounted near the handle bar, it flashes for the person eliminated.
@@mamilx6607 obviously does not work well enough
This is better than NASCAR.
Is it possible the Hong Kong riders bike didn't flash?
7:20 no flash
@@notorio526 Great spot!
they said his number and country on the speakers. He was ignoring them.
@@iswish_41 Or maybe he can't understand Engrish
start at 4:40 !!
How come the eliminated riders keep going around the bottom?
Is it to prevent cramping?
W.C. J I'm not really sure but my coach always says once you have finished racing keeping moving your legs. It may be because the Latic acid builds up and makes the riders legs sore.
Coz their feet are attached to the pedals and i don't think there is any breaks on the bikes
W.C. J No brakes on the bike. Once you start, use the shape of the track to slow yourself down. And then when you slow enough your team will stop you and hold the bike while you untie yourself.
Hafsa Gurey it’s fixed gear just try to pedal backwards
@@mauriciorojas1152 That's how you snap your knees lmao
I agree
The race officials should’ve made a better attempt to inform the Hong Kong rider that he was out. Interfering with the race when you’re already out shouldn’t be tolerated. I’m curious of how different the race could’ve been if he had pulled out earlier.
he obviously intended tohope to deceive by jumping to the front immediately after he lost, and hiding in the pack until he lost twice.
It was NOT officials' fault.
@@briseboy I realize that now. The point still stands. His actions should not be tolerated.
Coquard best eliminator !
Porque no traducen estás pruebas al castellano?
what's elia viviani's helmet?
How come stupid Keirin is an individual event while this awesome enduring race is just part of a 6-event competition?
Keirin is totally different from an omnium (6 event competition) and is very popular in Tokyo. The omnium is going to happen soon which has a lot of events.
Because Yakuza found it a great betting race. It existed nowhere else for decades.
Wait....so when Choi got eliminated for the SECOND time did the guy in second last place get eliminated as well?
No, and if you look it was the french rider who ended up winning.
They did the same exact thing with Liß at WC this year, gosh. I don't know what happened, but such mistakes as that should not be made at such a high level of competition.
Lmao this elimination race they shldnt have counted the Hong Kong guy the 2nd time he was last yet they did, letting coquard stay, if they counted it properly the final rankings for this omnium would have changed a lot
It's not Coquard job to know if someone is eliminated or not, he just has to have someone behind him and focus on it. It would have been unfair to eliminate Coquard for someone other mistake.
So France shouldn't have won. The second time Going Kong went through. France was actually in last
what?
YES, I AGREE
How do you want him to know the guy behind him was eliminated already ?
I thought they wore "buzzers" to let them know when they're out? They should if they don't.
Yeah, there's actually this screen with flashing red light between the handles, the Hong Kong contestant didn't even check that and continued to race.
16:04 winner winner chicken dinner
7:22 and 10:09 the same person? I don't understand the rule
the winner actually lost the race.. Hong Kong guy is eliminated twice. when he got eliminated the second time, winner was the last one finished the lap
Not fear this game
instead of flashing red, they should add a beeping noise so they know when their out
@Emil Dahl Maybe just have a sniper take their tires out?
Shock collars would be ideal.
@@Throwenshapes 😂😂
@@Njurk lol...another one bites the dust..and another one down, and another one down.
an electric switch wired to the balls would be excellent for attempted cheaters.
Vive la France !!
Jules Cyclisme Bon tardi por favor yudami pa wa e buelta España ciclismo macha danki.
I can't believe the officials screwed that up so bad, Coquard was out in 10th place. the Hong Kong rider was already eliminated and continued to ride, so it doesn't matter that he was the last wheel again at 10th, he wasn't part of the peloton then, Coquard was the last man and should have been eliminated, instead he rode to the win, total BS, especially at this level
NomadDnB No Coquard shouldn't be expected to know who is in and who is out, especially since the officials don't even know themselves. It's all the Honk Kong guy and the officials' fault.
Why would it be fair to blame and penalize Coquard for a mistake made by another? It's a nonsense
That's what most people call it lol
The number 26 😂
Viviani is now champion
What in the NASCAR is this?
😍😍😍
To the creater's of M&S at the Olympic Games. Y U NO PUT THIS EVEN IN THE RIO GAMES!!!
Are you sure? I think the Elimination (Devil) is still part of the Omnium @Rio2016. The Madison however is being skipped since Beijing.
Hey, they just showed this on NBC like 5 mins ago
Bike version of nascar
33バンクじゃ距離が短すぎる
海外には500バンクは ないのかな
almost always wins GB, australia or GB.
I think they need a system where a flash of red light on your bike dashboard signals elimination.
That’s literally what they use lmao
This commentator has cotton wool in his mouth, a paper bag over his head and seems to be heavily sedated. What an excellent opportunity to test out your hearing aid.
FRANCE NUMBER 19 IS NOT THE WINNER!
weird. the guy who started in the front won the race.
This event lost ALL credibility when an eliminated person just kept going.
NO. Choi Boi tried to believe he could cheat. Since the final scores were not published, here, I have no idea if they properly relegated him to last place in omnium.
なんの競技なん
ia m just bored thats why i am here
you are so wrong its unbelievable ....
This is the most unfair sporting event I have ever seen.
Then you didn't watch a lot of sports. This one is actually really tactical.
@@lusisa96 He can't even see the blocking, etc. He's never been in a race
