One of the best things about Olympics is watching sports you ordinarily wouldn't. I watched the Aussies break the World Record in the heats, and now win the Gold. Absolutely amazing!! 😭😭🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
I find we all become semi experts during both Olympic & Commonwealth Games lol. It's like we know the basics but that's about it but we are a sporting nation first & foremost, it's the most important thing for us Aussie's. Our cricketers take a back seat, even tho both men's & women's team are our best sporting teams at the international level but it's great to see other Aussie athletes in a wide range of sports that are also the best in the world, are world champions....not the way the US recognise world champions 😂
@imalwaysright Totally with you 👏 And favoured events seem to change as Olympics roll by. Now, I would 💯 book tickets for the Velodrome if I ever had that chance. I love the athletics relays as well. All that drama with the baton changes!! 4 x 100m, 4 x 200m, 4 x 400m.
He didn't slip, he said in an interview afterwards that his body gave up. He had done the last 4 laps leading as the other 2 were struggling - he was stuffed.
He slipped because he had to lead the last 4 laps without rotation because the other GB riders were gassed....Australia were not going to lose that one!
@@Gertzy41 I think you're talking about the keirin. We're actually not without hope in that one, but there is a Dutch sprinter who is a level above everyone else. Sometimes things can go terribly wrong in the keirin, so who knows?
I heard in commentary that in same event at the last Olympics in Tokyo that one of the Aussies boys bike malfunctioned... I'm obvs not a cycling expert, only watch it at both Olympics & Commonwealth Games, so did that happen & they lost the gold that way?😊
Watching that GB rider at 0.25x speed, it looks like his legs simply gave out. It didn't look like he hit the second rider's front wheel. Otherwise, they would have surely wobbled badly or crashed out. They knew they were behind, gave it their everything, and this was the result. But Australia would have won regardless of that incident. Well deserved win 🥇🇦🇺

@@garrywallace1007 Oh I see, thank you for explaining that. I thought he must have lost the clipped in foot and hence could not stand on the pedal effectively enough to push himself onto the seat.
@ARTOFTHESTEW So you think a technical / mechanical issue is funny? YOu obviously don't understand that in this sport, pedals are locked to the wheel, and feet are locked to the pedals. That rider was so close to a serious injury there. Remember Anna Meares broke her neck in a similar incident.
the lead rider relaxed a fraction before pulling off, dropped down a few inches & as he came up to pull off, touched the front tyre of the following rider who was accelerating coming off the bend. Rider 1 lost his legs & was thrown forward on the bike. Lucky not to come off. Lucky not to take down the other two.
@@Gertzy41 Not necessarily half the race... they can keep the 4th person for as long as they like! But the time is recorded from when the 3rd bike crosses the line each lap.

I love the velodrome Olympics but I wish it was a even playing field. Each bike costs $100,000 so is it technology that wins a medal or just pure 100% talent ? Poorer competing nations use a cheaper inferior bike,so no chance of winning a medal. I would like a Olympic approved bike that no country is allowed to tamper with and then we will see a even playing film and hopefully poorer countries have a shot at winning !
Probably GB's final chance to win this event, because by the next Games Labour will probably have mandated that the four must include at least one illegal and a transvestite.
Phenomenal day for Australia. 4 gold medals in 4 completely different sports
