A lot of you guys wondering how I fit 1 1/8 steering tube to the frame. The frame has a 34mm headtube, and your eye has been tricked by the 1 1/8 thread type fork of this bike. Not all thread type fork has a standard size so NO HEADTUBE CONVERSION happened here. You may see the image link below with regards to the size of the old thread type fork I replaced.

So the frame fit modern a modern 1 1/8 fork? What fork did you end up using? I've been dying to replace my '96 Avalanche's original Indy fork.

@@mehditizrit well, it's a bit of both. The frame was entirely redone, parts were replaced, for sure upgrading. But also still much more well done than other people's "restoration" projects.

    Nice work Coggie.
Im very pleased to see another old bike back to life.
Great to see that you press bearings in to head instead hmmering them ;-)
I have some advice for you:
    1. Use rust inhibitor before painting.
    2. Try avoid to use filler (beter to play with primer only if rust marks are not too deep.More work but better results in long shot)
    3. When welding with electrode try to place one continous bead instead of short tack welds.
    4. Hide your stickers under clearcote that way they last longer.

    • @genesisjulian9524

@@genesisjulian9524 What about some kind of acid? A lot of people don't realize that acid will strip paint, rust, and grease. I use Muriatic Acid to clean old rusty automobile parts, but It's my understanding that Phosphoric Acid works well too. In Canada here, Muriatic acid is easy to come by because it's used to clean swimming pools. Just don't get it on your skin or breath the fumes.

Congratulations! What an amazing restoration work! I have never seen the use of MTB shifters and brakes on a gravel handlebar!

I really enjoy this kind of restoration. You fix it, but make it like you dream a bike to be. I had only one GT bmx, toughest bike ever. 💯💯💪🏻

Pulled my GT Avalanche 2008 out of the garage today and took her for a nice 20km :) parking her with a new drivetrain was a fantastic idea, she's buttery smooth in retirement lol.

I used to have the same model as my first MTB. I rode it at my first Fat Tire MTB week at Crested Butte when I got back from Desert Storm. Now I wished that I would have kept it. Your work is inspiring, thank you for sharing.

GT has special place in my ❤... As previous fixie rider I loved my GT. Most unique bike out there. Anyways only thing I'd change here is the handles bars to MTB with good raise on them. This would be great grave and for townie bike. 👌🏻
