  • If you’ve ever had a game camera (trail cam) stolen by trespassers on your property or had curious animals damage them, then you know that replacements can get to be expensive. Housing your cameras in secure lock boxes is the solution.
    In this DIY video I’ll show you the way I convert a $7 electrical box into an effective trail cam lock box.
    I hope you enjoy the video as well as learn something from it.
    Take care, God bless, and I’ll see you on the next video.

    The first 2 minutes of this video are not necessary. All else were very good. Thank you for not having music in the background ,thumbs up for sure.

      Pisses me off when people take something of mine, especially when they have no business on MY property. Know exactly how you fell. Glad you were able to find this helpful!

    Very slick! Thanks for sharing the idea. Welded up a box for one of my cameras but it took too long and cost too much in metal. This is a much better idea then custom welding a box from scratch. Going to Home Depot today to grab some ac disconnect boxes.

      I do not know how to weld so I had to come up with something easy. Glad you enjoyed the video. Good Luck!

    Great job and well made video. You said you were going to add more camouflage. I would definitely cover it with some kind of hairy / moss material to break up the outline and make it totally disappear, like a ghillie suit!

    Will stick out like a sore thumb make them easy to see and find and it don't take much to get past a lock

      with the right camo job it is hard to see, what you see in the video was just some black paint. Have several out and have not lost one yet.

    SMART!!!!
    Thanks! I was going to make a "birdhouse" for mine to be used as an outside-the-house surveillance cam, but this gives me another idea (though not as covert as mine would be - "hidden in plain sight").
    Thanks.

    • @thehandyoutdoorsman9014
      @thehandyoutdoorsman9014  6 років тому

      Perhaps you can use this as a base and then try and camouflage it as a bird house? Thanks for commenting.

    • @usernamemykel
      @usernamemykel 6 років тому +1

      I went ahead and made a birdhouse for my new Browning Dark Ops Extreme trail cam. The first position it was in gave me too narrow a view from my gate to my front door. I repositioned it, further back, and the field of view is now great, and, as a bonus, the camera is more concealed,
      I don't believe that it needs more "security", as it is well hidden and blends in with my gate.
      Thanks

      Thanks for your confidence in my abilities, but anybody could do it after viewing a few simple birdhouse designs and cutting the opening to accommodate the sensor and IR array.

      Should be a quick project, can be completed in an afternoon. Of course that depends on how many trails camera you have :). Good luck.

    You can put eye bolts thru the sides and secure with nuts n washers inside then run python cable lock around to secure to tree

    Suggestion... pretty much all trail cams have that annoying red flashing LED to let you.... and everyone else... know it is taking a picture. Cover it with a little piece of black plastic tape and you remove the 'flash' that draws the eye to the camera.

    • @thehandyoutdoorsman9014
      @thehandyoutdoorsman9014  5 років тому +2

      I would agree, ended up putting a piece of tape over the "blinking light" when I placed it int the woods. Thanks for watching.

    Just wanted to say thanks for a great video. I just made up one of these myself. Slightly different design box,. The front cover of the box I had was tough to cut through, I had one of those oscillating tools to cut through with, took a lot of elbow grease! I'm going to use camouflage duct tape to cover the outside with.

    Clever idea. It looks good painted, too. What made you think of using that box?

    • @thehandyoutdoorsman9014
      @thehandyoutdoorsman9014  8 років тому +2

      +1000mishi Thank you! I actually got the idea from my brother. Using the electrical disconnect box is ideal as it is already made for outdoors, you can find them in many sizes and they are reasonably priced.

  • @1966cambo

    Hmmm, I just so happen to have one of those boxes and wondered what I would ever do with it.......now I know!
    I am going to add a cable to mine, drill a hole on the back put cable through hole, put cable clamp on cable and make it tight!
    When you bolt it to the tree then pass the cable around the tree and through another hole on the other side back of the box and put another cable clamp on that end, should be able to leave some slack end so it can be used on different diameter trees. My .02 .....

    Any issues with the foam trapping moisture and creating a problem?

    • @thehandyoutdoorsman9014
      @thehandyoutdoorsman9014  2 роки тому +1

      No issues at all with moisture. Most cameras are water proof to some extent. The only problem is insects make a nest inside the box. Have to clean them out each time I check the cameras. Still not an issue.

    Man if a thief wants to take that camera they will take it

    • @thehandyoutdoorsman9014
      @thehandyoutdoorsman9014  Рік тому

      That is true. However if you make it harder to take they will leave it alone. Have several of these out on public land and only one has been stolen in 5 - 6 years. Have footage of someone trying to kick it off of the tree and gave up after 4 minutes.
