Hanging cameras higher in the tree are perfect for keeping your cameras out of sight from dishonest hunters.

We almost exclusively use this method and have had less than 5 cameras stolen out of 100. That's a solid percentage given the volume of cameras we have out. We've also found, less deer give the cameras the "stare" that often happens when a camera is placed only 3-4 feet off the ground.
Run Lithium Batteries
We place cameras on public land with the intention of leaving them for the entire season, if not longer. Unfortunately, checking cameras biweekly would take too much time. Since they are left in the field for so long, we have to get the absolute most out of our battery life.

The trouble with lock cables and trail cameras, is that the cameras are plastic. Really easy to cut the plastic off where the cable hooks to them. I use a 1/8th inch cable and a cheap padlock. If they want to steal it, they will even with a heavy cable. Lock boxes are best. Especially if you can lag bolt them to a tree from the inside.
Cover the camera in camo Duck Tape and use hot glue to glue bark to the camera and elevate them. You better make damn sure you know where you put them.... Or you'll be looking LOL
I had a friend that took a soldering iron and melt STOLEN into the cases of all his cameras theft decreased fairly dramatically.
When you use the stick n pick with climbing sticks, do you also use a lock box and cable lock?
I use a popsicle stick or chop stick taped to the side of the cam to aim the device so as to cover the area as best I can....and height is best to hide....great info on the video, and some things I never thought of to use...thanks
I made a fibreglass housing for the camera. Basically, a tubular tunnel. the camera sits back around 12 inches from front. The rear end of the tube is capped. The unit is left on the ground facing out of undergrowth. This also keep the rain from ruining the shot with great globules on the lens. The tube is dark green and wrapped in a camo net. The inside of the tube is matt black. I have trouble finding it myself in the bushes.
best tips on you tube for locking up cameras, thanks man, straight to the point.
Great video man! I'm setting up my first trail cam today. Definitely using these tips! Side note: Ny deer look up into the tree's. SUPER pressured. I've been spotted. Was slightly brushed in and not moving a muscle. But I'm afraid of heights and wasn't more than 10ft up 😆🤷♂️ Everyone else here hunts 20ft or more. 😱
So now my cable, lock box and stick pic get ruined and stolen too not just the camera?
Matt Swisher the purpose of the combination is to help keep them out of sight and safe from a thief.
We just shared a few approaches to help with trail camera theft, but untimely every situation is different.
This is my first experience with a trail camera, information very informative thanks
Great to hear Eileen, don't hesitate to reach out if you have any other questions.
One question. Why can't they make these cameras less conspicuous or
make a cover for them that makes them less conspicuous. With theft
being such a problem I would think this would be an option that many
people would like. And at 100 bucks a pop putting them up on public
land seems a real crap shoot! Better concealment and certainly better
straps, etc would be the way to go I would think?? Your thoughts on
this?
Fair thoughts! We’ve found simply elevating the camera to get out of sight is a great deterrent for theft. Also utilizing cable locks or lock boxes can help keep people honest.
The lock box or camera vault is meant to be lag bolted to the tree. If you cable lock the vault box to the tree, the cable is the weak point. Whether the card is gone or the camera is gone.... camouflage them as best you can to make 'em less obvious... the screw-in mounts are great, as a strap around a tree is a dead giveaway for your camera. Thieves suck. Hunt safely, my Friends!
Great advise! Problem is....In most states screwing anything into a tree on public ground is illegal. Definitely agree with your point though!
what if you knew someone that made camera's and they made one that was password protected so whomever stole the camera they couldn't use it afterwards....🤔
Don't all cameras have that feature? I know my Moultries do.
They do..
Then they come to UA-cam to watch a crack the password video.
How would this prevent your trail cam from being stolen?
Not!
Awww wish I saw u install the cam on tree. Thanks for sharing
Arms looking JACKED my dude!
I’ve been hanging my cameras a climbing stick high and with a python cable lock.
Great strategy Zac!
i hunt Public Land, most of the time i hang my cameras with climbing stick high and with a python cable lock & a padlock, when i hang them l lower around 3/4 feet ,i find a big tree ( so they can't cut the tree and take the cameras), but i still use a a python cable lock & a padlock. i have caught a few people on cam trying to steal my lower cameras
Very interesting, we've also found hanging the camera only a stick high makes a big difference!
I hid one of my cameras so well, it took me 2 hours to find the damn thing. I thought someone stole it!
What did you say to the thieves?
@@KeepinYouUp07 how many pix of you wandering around did you get? LMAO I've had it happen.
We can't use anything (climbing stick's, tree stand, trail cam that penetrates into the tree on public lands here in Indiana!
Thanks for the helpful information.
Amy K. Jones no problem!
I'm getting itchy just watching the first part of this.
Bad guys are not stupid. Wire cutters are cheap. Put them up high is about all you can do. Like you said. Me I put a camera watching a cam. I use cheap cams low as bait.
What about people who shoot your camera out of the tree?
Thanks for the great info. Hope you’re not allergic to poison ivy...Hahahaha
Hmm! Camera I will be back in one hour with my climbing sticks and cable cutters. Save your money and just buy some adjustable band clamps, they come in all sizes. If someone wants your camera then it's there
Scott & Aheadjoy thanks for sharing your thoughts. At the end of the day the thieves will be thieves and it’s just about to deterring theft.
Dude my husband is staying on your videos instead of helping me with the baby tell him please to help me
Is that poison ivy?
Wouldn't doubt it! I don't usually get it so I don't pay much attention to where it is. Guess I'm lucky!!!
It is
Loved the video man
Thanks for watching Steve!
Does not matter how many camera locks or security boxes one has, all the thief has to do is cut down the tree and just take the section of the tree the camera is attached to. Look for the weakest link
Yeah, you're ultimately right. However, sometimes it only takes a little deterrence to help keep your camera where it belongs.
In Missouri. Trail cameras on any kind of public land is illegal .
Brian Gregory very interesting!
Hello new to your channel awesome video
No sound
It's working on our end- -is there a particular time when you don't hear sound?
I can hear the intro very well/ But at 37 seconds when the guy on the truck stats talking. Can barely hear him.
@@RhinoRider2006 Sorry to hear that, we'll look into that on our end.
yup with headphones the music is in both ears, but the takking is only in the left
Nick Miresse thanks for the feedback. We’ll make sure that’s fixed for any future videos!
People who steel are not reel hunters i will not steel any camera i come a cross but i carry a thing to check the card i will check it put it back and set camera back up i think if you leave it on public i can check it .i have had a guy call warden on me and he told him its on public i didn't damage or steel anything he couldn't do anything .
It's still personal property dumbass !! Leave it alone ! Apparently you didn't learn that in kindergarten !! 🤣🤣🤣
Just cut through the PLASTIC lugs on the back of camera... one free camera !
Cable locks are a joke.
Stop poking holes in trees..
Shut up
Yeah, what are all those woodpeckers thinking?
Python cable is useless.
Here's a little trick I came up with that might help from getting your equip stolen.
I create a jpeg in Photoshop and it's just a simple messege on it like the following
"BEWARE! I check my cams every 2 to 3 days BEWARE!
IF YOU HAVE STOLEN THIS CAMERA!
I have several cameras watching this camera as well as the road/trail in and out of here.
I have taken the time to camo some really well and I can assure you that I have
hi quality video and images of YOU and any vehicle you may have used STEALING MY PROPERTY!
I suggest that you return my camera to its original spot or I will go directly to local POLICE with what I have, as well as posting all images and videos of YOU to local websites/FB groups ect... SO RETURN MY PROPERTY NOW ASSHOLE!!!"
then I name my newly created jpeg "YOU STOLE THIS CAMERA" and I put it on all my SD cards in all my cameras. So if a thief checks the card he will likly read it and it might convince them to just put it back. It's not a garantee but at least its worth a shot..
That''s a really interesting approach!
