I just now discovered your channel. Too bad I discovered it on such a trash can of a show. Neither of us will ever get this time back. Keep up the great work.
I wholly disagree. I loved Luther, turning into kind of a Himbo. He was like taking himself way too seriously when it was clear that he wasn’t shit like he was trying to be responsible, but like I think it makes sense after everything that he went through that like he didn’t have his shit together. I love this season. I think his whole like DIY and stripper thing was so funny.
Why did Luther turn back into an ape man? His original power was super-strength. His apelike appearance was caused by Hargreaves injecting him with an ape serum after he was fatally injured on a mission. The Marigold should have just given him his super-strength back
Of all things I'm still stuck on "Lila hates bracelets" In season 2 Lila steals a bracelet Diego made, she wears it the entire season and then drops it at the end, Diego picks it up and then gives it back to her in s3 when they get back together. That bracelet was their whole thing...
and even if that didnt happen - who hates bracelets? why? how did he immediately go to - oh my god! five mustve gave her it! and even if he did, bracelets arent always a romantic gesture..? if my brother made my gf a bracelet id be like 'oh theyre getting along! nice!'
Also the fact that Klaus literally got trafficked and it was brushed off as a joke or something?? In comparison to how the first season depicted Klaus going through something traumatic in such a realistic and visceral way this season’s plotline did not handle it tactfully at all
@@jdub36 So like- I agree with you in theory! But in practice, in the show, it’s was weird and off putting to have someone go through a traumatizing experience but not be at all affected by it. It’s poor writing 🤷🏻♀️ bc it lowers the stakes so much that we’re never worried about the characters bc we know they’ll be fine. And it stood out even more in this show bc they’ve made it a point to have these characters deeply impacted by their trauma in past seasons.
@@dysmissme7343 I don’t remember him telling any of the other family members. Also, it’s not the same thing as Klaus getting brutalized in some dark alley somewhere. He willingly conjured a ghost into his body that then engaged in consensual sex. Lastly. If we’re going to start demanding all fictional television shows handle fictional situations with the right amount of tact, our tv shows are going to get pretty boring. Tv shows depict war and murder all the time. Nobody freaks out over it
@@jdub36no I’m sorry ur wrong 😭 1. It was most definitely NOT consensual. He was imprisoned and forced to work as a prostitute there were literally bars on his windows. They also made a point of writing it into the show in season 2 that possession makes him feel violated 2. Trafficking is a real life issue this happens to real people every single day and it’s horrific. They chose the Vietnam war for a reason because it wasn’t relevant in modern day and wasn’t actively affecting as many people so for them to pass this off as haha funny Klaus getting into his nonsense is so weird 3. If they were going to lower the stakes and have the characters be less affected by trauma that would be one thing, but when you compare season one, which handles it very realistically in a way that affects the audience, and season four, it’s blaringly different. There’s a reason people are saying season 4 wasn’t as impactful 4. It’s the realistic emotions and character developments that makes this show so interesting. If you want to watch something thats all punches and powers and no depth, go watch a marvel movie
I heard a rumor that season 4 of The Umbrella Academy never existed and got erased with the marigold. Or at least make the characters still be born at a later time since most of the mothers were teenagers without powers or the umbrella academy to end the series and let them live their lives. Much more satisfying than whatever crack the last season is.
plus the fact Lila is younger or older depending on how u look at it so it was kind of gross because 5 was either like that fat old man or he was younger version 5 either way Lila should not be sleeping with him
the dynamics were all fucked up. sure aidan is 20 now but ritu is 35 and knew him when he was what, like 15? 16? that just makes it *weird* that they'd make them kiss and fall in love onscreen. in umbrella academy canon, he's in his sixties and she's in her thirties, that's a weird ass dynamic too! they just really should not have given five a love interest past dolores, giving him a mannequin is a safe option lmao, we dont have to deal with weird age dynamics. five is better off with no love interest. it was what made him a good character and different from the others, he didnt care about a relationship, only his mission (and wanting to have a break with his family once they ended the apocalypse). the subway sequence was so unneccessary and had no reason to have them stuck there for 7 years?? literally WHAT was the reason for the writers to ship them together. i thought their dynamic in season 2 and 3 were cute, them slowly tolerating each other and building a good friendship. NOT EVERYTHING HAS TO BE ENEMIES TO LOVERS anyway, that's my little silly rant. i know its not that serious, i just enjoy complaining. i also quite enjoyed the season, despite hating the storyline, it was good to see the umbrellas together again :)
They made they own rules they said f the fans , the logic the story the mystery oh and let’s not give them answers to anything oh and let’s ruin the favorite characters and turned them into flowers
Netflix is still a business. They want ‘cult following’ type of shows. I.e. (producing merchandise, having A-list celebrities talk about them , etc). TUA had fans, but not enough . Stranger Things , for example, I’m sure will have the budget to execute their ending. Why? Because they make Netflix a ton of money outside of views and streaming. (Merchandise, Millie Bobby Brown and her scandals, etc). Unfortunately, it’s just business. 😔
They weren’t making enough profit probably barely breaking even. I expected it cancelled seasons ago based on the lack of promotion and no one talking about it. I know it was rushed and janky but I am glad they at least ended it instead of just having it cancelled.
@LipstickNWhiskey I get that. But surely there was a way to end the show that didn't destroy it. Most shows never even get an ending, but if this is what we get, I'd rather it have ended unresolved with season 3.
They have good chemistry together and their team up interactions were always my favorite parts of the other seasons. I don't even have an issue with them forming a romantic relationship after 7 years of being stuck in timeline limbo, IF Lila never and Diego never fell in love and had a family. But they did, and it made my two favorite characters a woman who cheats on her husband with his brother, and five into a homewrecker.
@@VaporeonEnjoyer1 if five wasn’t such a softie in S4, making him a home wrecker wouldve kinda been in character. Keep in mind this is the same guy who was dead set on convincing his family to abandon their loved ones in s2, and threatened to kill them when they disagreed. I could totally see S2 five teasing his brother about banging his wife 😂
They kept saying Diego's fat belly... Diego you've let yourself go... Diego maybe don't eat that... I keep eyeing his body and I'm like HUH?? Needless to say during the fighting scene I was proper PISSED. Man has like 10% body fat wTF are yall talking about he's shredded???
I hate how they nuked Klaus’s claustrophobia. They built this complex character with real fears and trauma behind being enclosed in tight spaces. Here they have a scene where he’s trapped UNDERGROUND in a CEMETERY and they completely ignore his past fears and traumatic experiences. That completely killed all hope of his character for me
What annoyed me most was Dave (the lack of) His powers were developing across the 3 seasons and I thought he was gonna be able to see Dave again at least, but season 4 just drops this
@@SteveBeef-n2j I get that they couldn’t bring Dave back, but at least Klaus should’ve been able to use his powers to get closure on that, especially after all the progress he made with them in season 3….
What really bugged me about Lila was, that during the seven years, she not ONCE mentioned Diego or her kids, missing any of them etc. She was so willing to just leave and that was that. Then SUDDENLY when they can get back, she's like "oh no my children" as if she cared at all Plus, five is so smart. Why would 5 even agree to go to a different time line and then try to jump back into the past, when that's not exacrly how he got stuck for 40+ years?
Exactly!!! Like I was so disappointed when they got together… why couldn’t it of been someone else that he got with and why the heck would he decide to time travel with her, like I’m sorry- he’s supposed to be smarter than that-😢😭💀
But then the same could be said about Allison and Claire in season 2, she never mentioned Claire until the finale its because both Allison and Lila never thought they'd see their kids again so they entirely didn't bother thinking about them because its too painful and they most likely grieved
@@evaosman330But then Allison was in the 60s a black woman MUTE for a whole year and she didn’t think any of her siblings were in the timeline so she thought she’d never see Claire again until duh she found Klaus and then the others 😭
What’s crazy is that your not even exaggerating. They introduced the biggest antagonist…at the last season…there was no build-up, no mentions or name drops in previous seasons (as far as I’m aware) Ive never seen a story throw in a new antagonist at the very last season and have them win by default. No work at all.
Exactly, not even cheap exposition or flashback of who she was, hell, she got almost no lines at all......instead we had a soap opera family love triangle
Hazel and Cha Cha, the commission, kugleblitz, Lila. These were all amazing characters and antagonists. Even the Sparrow academy was interesting to me. I did like the characters of Gene and Jean. I enjoyed certain elements of season 4. Reginald definitely should’ve been more of a villain. He was so capable when he fought them in season 2, to see him not even attempt to fight and having a military instead just didn’t make any sense. The character was far more interesting than “billionaire hires personal military to combat militia to stop the end of the world when out characters have literal powers
@@swagachugaming7677 If im not mistaken in season 3 both Luther and Klaus labeling their Ben's death as the "Jennifer Accident",then theres his room full of drawings of Jennifer those were the little clues i guess.
Even the fact that Lila has a whole scene where she hesited to let her family, but Diego had nothing???? Five aka the one that ruined his mariage say that they have to sacrifice not even knowing if their child will exist in the last timeline and Diego just go with it??? He didn't even think about it he just followed and said nothing
i will forever forgive the writers for ruining everyone's character. mainly five and lila. five loves his family more then literally anything in the world. he murdered people, he made shady deals, he broke time and space for his family. he spent 40+ years in the og apocalypse timeline and he remained somewhat sane(?) and only his family was in his mind. he traveled back in time to save his family yet they want us to believe 7 years made him forget about them and hurt them?? even if five were to fall for lila he would never act on those feelings. he would rather suffer then betray his brother. have the writers even consider the previous seasons?? any prior season five would've killed season 4 five. he was reduced into some lovesick fool who had an affair with his sister-in-law. what makes it sad we never got to goodbye to him. season 3 is where everything ended in my opinion.
@moehasan7534 so you're tell me that five goes from “guy who will literally break time and space to save his family” to “homewrecker stealing his brother’s wife and leaving them all to die” is considered to be a good change to his character?? okay let's just say that five did change like that. let's say properly written five would ever fall in love lila and he would risk his relationship with his brother in the process. five would never suggest that he and lila stay in the dreamland timeline and leave his family to die. no he would rather save them first and then later see where him and lila stand and will fight for her love. i can understand five feeling tired getting tired and wanting to choose his own happiness for once and i would've love that for him but leaving his family for lila??? no way his love for his family is much more stronger then his 7 years of survival/love with lila
Sure but they don't change their entire personality. It would make sense if 5 was trying to have it *all* and failed, losing his family and Lila, but he literally does not GAF@@moehasan7534
Luthor's character makes no sense in season 4. When they get their powers back, why does he become part gorilla again? That was not his power at all so that just told me these writers didn't even know anything from season 1, let alone the comics.
They wasted money putting him in that gorilla suit. Luther got the gorilla DNA when he was injured, all the marigold should’ve given him was strength. 🤦🏽♀️ Tom Hopper has said the suit is uncomfortable to wear too so it was all around a waste.
That was the exact moment I thought “oh shit, this might end badly if they didn’t pay attention to the little details” But then they implied that their powers are slightly different with Allison gaining telekinesis, Viktor not going pale when using his powers, etc. and I almost could’ve accepted it… if episode 4, 5, and 6 had been so much better.
I was wondering that too! but then actually, why did he lose his monkey physique at the end of S3 to begin with? It's not his power, just a result of some life-saving treatment
@@pennydownesgrainger07 It is cause writers don't know how to write multi-timeline scenarios. Avengers Endgame is the only one that did it correctly. If you prevented something from happening, it should have no effect on YOUR timeline, just the one you manipulated. So it makes no sense why they lost their powers to begin with. They should have still have them regardless.
@@TheBlackDorothyZbornak The plot didn't feel thought through. Ben never says he doesn't know how he died. Noone asks Ben. The family takes it as is. There is a pseudo reason for it later but that is lazy writing to make up for a thin plot. Even if Ben didn't know who killed him and all other family members are not allowed to ask ... it should be normal for Ben to ask Klaus "How did i die?" Ipso facto revealing that it's a unnatural cause that has a reason to be questioned further. But not even Ben cares how he died. That's bad writing.
Really hate that the entire point of the train was just to further Five and Lila’s relationship. On top of that the Cleanse is supposed to unify all timelines so what was even the point of putting people on the train.
I had to drop it at episode 5. Sitting through the most forced, character assassinating cheating plot I've ever had the displeasure of watching. All the characters were split up, Sloane was never brought up again, and the writers' message to Abused Children is "You should never have existed." All of the characters deserved so much better. I have no other idea what they could possibly mean by having the show focus on the UA's abuse at the hands of Regi for 3 seasons and them each struggling to overcome their faults while saving the world then to have THAT ending happen. It doesn't even make in-universe sense. It was not a heroic sacrifice, it was the writers creating a poorly written and explained situation then having a bunch of lifelong abuse victims declare the world is better off without them.
Agreed, it's sad to see one of my favourite shows start off so strong, and then go out with a whimper. The only thing I liked were the campy villains, and everyone acted out of character, especially Five. I know that he was stranded with Lila for years, but it seemed so unlike him to kiss his brother's wife. Even worse, they didn't get the chance to reconcile before they died, although Diego and Lila made up.
Sloane was trapped in hotel oblivion because for some reason she didn’t come out with them last season . Only got a passing mention this season by Luther and then never again .
@@williamcowell1889no, GOT still takes the case, especially bc imo the writing was better in GOT and the characters were more complex, watching them be assassinated like that was tragic
@@logancoleman4507 I see your point but GoT was more of a steady decline from 6-8 . Whereas this show just up and dumped their characters and it felt like Netflix saying “f#ck you, we’re done with this show “ .
Another "smaller" plot hole is Five struggling with using his power as he wants, but in the last episode he jumps where he wants because... Lila said so? Any previous attempts of using his power ended at the subway, why did it finally work? In general this season is a disaster... I agree with everything you said. There are so many more plot holes and nonsense
@@colecaldwell4278 What is confusing is Lila needs Five to teleport and she relies on him numerous times and then later on she can miraculously teleport. Whilst I get that she copies powers, how come she didn't copy them earlier on?
I feel like I need to rewatch it in order to remember some of these details, but also I don’t want to rewatch it because it was really hard to watch lol- I do vaguely remember a moment where five was talking about how it’s jumping through time that’s really hard for him to do accurately, but jumping through space is really simple. is that what you’re referring to?
Correction, there was a dance scene. But it was Jean and Gene dancing and it felt unearned. When Chacha and Hazel danced around the lab (being high from Klaus's stash) that felt natural and fun. When Gene and Jean (love the actors) did it, it felt like someone trying real hard to be quirky.
Yes it felt like quirk bait. Like "see these characters are taking special time out of their day to dance, so they should be emotionally resonant" and then they just died.
And after him being one of the most powerful siblings, he didn’t even really try to stop the monster. It felt like they totally ruined every single power
Klaus being able to command the dead but gets stuck in a CEMETERY says it all. Why did Klaus feel the need to revert back to his old self? He took drugs because seeing all the dead people messed with his mind. He climbed that hurdle last season. So his powers were really just being a jerk. Made no sense!!!!!! Why is Luther part monkey? Why doesn’t 5 want help from anyone but Lila? I could go on and on but I’ll leave it there. I’m so disappointed because I loved this show.
Because everyone else are morons or selfish. Allison is chaos in a bottle that would just force her way. Diego has a hero god complex. Luther is big and clumsy. And Viktor is a mixture of allison and their own deal. For all her faults Lila can at least keep up with five and has the same survival skills as him. It’s essentially why they’re always paired doing stuff.
@@beaudoullahoblongatta lucky was dog. You don’t think other dogs were buried there?!??? It’s a tv show, you could’ve made up any kind of animal to come to his rescue or attack the other people out there. Do you not see the irony? Someone who can command the dead needing help in a cemetery. That’s like a fish drowning in a pond. Smh
@TerranceTaplin-hn2hl lol, ok wow now a lot of dogs are barking randomly. Really helpful lol. It seems like he doesn't have the same level of control since he rejected his powers. He even seemed surprised to see the ghost of thunderbolt.
Ben is a ghost in S1, so he should remember how he died, even if the other siblings had their memories wiped. Why did he never tell Klaus that Reginald killed him and Jennifer?
To just about sum up my feelings about this season. Season 1-"I Think We're Alone Now" Season 4-"Baby Shark" I can't even put it into words,it's just heartbreaking. It started on such a high note and just died with a whimper.
Five and Viktor should’ve sacrificed themselves. At least the majority of our characters would live happy lives this way, and it’s ultimately five and viks doings that caused this mess in the first place. Viktor should’ve extracted the marigold from his siblings, have five blink the family into the subway, then blink himself and vik back to the topside to be consumed. This is a much better way to end the series and kind of mend the bullshit five pulled
The moment Allison said "I'm an actor motherf.." to the man holding Klaus captive when he asked "what are you?", I knew it was written by AI. Like why would he care what Allison's occupation was? No human would write that as a clapback. Only AI would see that question and respond with her job title 🙄 such a disappointment
Wasn’t there a writer’s strike not so long ago? This A.I. theory is possible. I can very easily see an exec making the call to just “wrap it up” using writing algorithms. Chat gpt and apps like it could easily be made to do this!
Can we please talk about how that van scene was 100% written or directed by someone with emetophilia? Cuz I was clocking that shit so hard. Maybe I'm crazy but I don't wanna see my favorite characters puking at the screen! It was totally disgusting and unserious for beloved characters. And it's not like the show is really known for that kind of humor? At least to me. I watch it because I'm invested in the characters. I understand toilet humor, but there's a difference between "haha fart joke", like with Five in season 2 with the time paradoxes, and characters straight up vomiting for 1 minute straight in front of the camera with nothing added to it. If it was meant to be funny, it failed miserably.
@@jakethestatefarm you have absolutely said it best. it was so out of left field and felt so out of place. it isnt and hasnt been the tone of the show at all. it just felt like a way to kill time but also a way to just nuke all the build up and depth of our beloved characters. it just sucks. i wanted better for this show, poor gerard.
Here’s how I would have concluded each character in this final season: Luther: he is Number 1, they should’ve developed his time being a leader and LED his family for the final time defeating Reginald Viktor: I wish they would’ve had him come back to his talents with Violin and found love for music once more Allison: she should’ve had a “redemption” arc for her action she caused in season 3 to get the family to forgive her Diego/Lila: they definitely had a good direction in the beginning of the episodes as a struggling parents. They should’ve resolved that Ben: I think Ben should ended up time trapped with Five. This whole ordeal will make Ben realized that he loves his family no matter what time/dimension he is from. Klaus: He learns to fully control his powers and realize he no longer needs drug as an escape. Five: I think he should’ve sacrificed himself, his “first jump” is what could’ve caused the distortion or end of the world in every scenario.
C'mon, having the love for the violin back and becoming the White Violin again would be nice, but the gender transition was to respect Elliot's trasition, coming back would be stupid and useless to the story.
Another plot hole is Reginald can’t mind wipe Ben after he died. Even if Klaus doesn’t remember Ben’s death, why would Ben never mention, “Yo, it’s really screwed up that Dad shot me in the head” to Klaus… like ever. I would be talking about that daily.
RIGHT! and I see so many people saying "oh he was shot in the back of the head so he couldn't see" but wouldn't he be able to see his body shot and his "father" holding A gun and put two and two together 🤦🏿♀️
My biggest plot hole / weird scene was the restored memory of the Jennifer Incident. So OG Reg knew that Durango exists and when put in contact with Marigold will end the world. So ofc not only does he sent his kids (which are full of marigold) to deal with it, when called upon, he can appear in that exact spot and shoot Ben and Jennifer. So why tf couldn't he just teleport in there and set the charge himself? Why trust that job with the one group of people who, if they failed the mission, would also end existence as we know it.
Another thing i don't understand is that in season 2 Five talks about all these side effects of being close to another version of you, and that was shown too when he met his other version. But there were no side effects when all those Fives were in that café together??
@@OTR0412 Actually he does show signs of timeline psychosis when he meets his older self. Five was itching himself and sweating constantly when they got close to where older Five was preserved. They just forgot the rules of their own universe.
@@lilchaos9212 yes but once they were in the vault/bunker where his older self was held, he explained that the side effects don't work in the bunker. not defending the 4 season just a correction
It would've been interesting for them to have found Jennifer first, no powers; Ben and Jen start building this undeniable attraction only for the Durango in Jennifer to essentially poison Ben's mind into drinking the Marigold more pseudo-addictively like was portrayed. Basically a big analogy for peer pressure, who you surround yourself with, not letting the person you "love" (who you just met) drag you down a hole into blob form. Something. I'm no writer so it ain't perfect
Season 4 is just character assassination on every single main character. Luther becomes an entirely bumbling idiot, Five somehow lost his entire decades of rational thinking and problem-solving skills, Klaus' traumas and problems were completely ignored and changed, Allison became so wishy-washy on all her actions unlike her very determined self in previous seasons, Ben is somehow made to be a plot device, Diego just became an obsessed workaholic unlike his free-spirited self in previous seasons, Viktor lost all of his built-up skill for anger management, and Lila degenerated into a cheater for something that isn't even relevant to the actual plot.
As far as I'm concerned, the series ended with Season 3. They dropped the ball on all these characters' journeys and then slapped us in the face by saying none of it mattered in the end. I think I'll just make up a final season in my head and pretend that happened.
@jlshadday6401 I feel ya. Season 3 did several things that I'm not a fan of: Making Harlan the catalyst for the cuckoblitz, killing off the Sparrows, and Allison's predatory attack on Luther. However, I do feel that given the story they ran with, Allison's wrath was mostly justified. She literally had two of her greatest loves ripped away with no viable way to get them back.
Why did you expect a character journey from a comic book plot of a dysfunctional family? They were never going to be redeemed. The ending shows that nothing ever changes unless they don't exist. That's the resolute.
i already made a final season plot in my head which was more interesting than the actual s4 and thats my way of coping with how bad s4 was. I was literally so disgusted by how they ruined s4. If u wanna hear my version of s4 then lemme know
I don't think most people realize but this is a product of the writer's strike last year in Hollywood. We'll be seeing much more poorly written shows in the next couple of months without a doubt sadly
Yeah, I just hate that Netflix looked at this script and said “yep this is the one” Surely if they had given the writers more time the season could have been great
Yup just seen house of the dragon season 2 where they chopped off the final 2 episodes. When I saw the umbrella academy final season was so short I knew it wasn't going to wrap up nicely.
for an ending could they not have just had viktor remove everyone’s marigold, find a way to transfer it into the jar full of marigold, then give it to the Cleanse and then all blink into the subway and we see them without their powers trying to live a normal life? especially if they remember the other characters who are now leading very regular lives (i.e. the Handler and Hazel/Cha-Cha)
@@graceolusanya2477Yeah love 5 but I would prefer if he just passed I feel like it would almost be a full circle of him being in charge of timelines and him coming back being the catalyst of Season 1
Maybe they all blinked to the subway first, then on the subway viktor absorbs all the marigold except for five, so he can take the jar of all their marigold back to the squid monster and the world ends with Five, the marigold and the "cleanse". They would have to sacrifice Five being non-existent but it would make sense since him jumping through timeline could've caused all of it. Like five himself said, it isn't normal and there should've only been one. And this time, the timeline is right and all of the other characters get to finally live normal lives with their families.
8:30 AND the dog. What was the dog’s point. I get Allison said she heard a dog barking so she went that way but that’s such a weird plot hole. Not to mention the dog provided no help the grave was clearly recently dugged.
Since all of us are poking holes, here's another one. Diego was shaded to have gained weight, the first 2 episodes, including by Lila. Then in the episode where he finally gets to work for the CIA with a tearaway suit, which is taken off to reveal he's ripped.... Why would they literally disprove something they established... Arguably, they should NOT show how ripped he was or just IDK not call him chubby?
I believe they were implying he got his ripped body as part of his powers but they were too lazy to show it properly that he was chubby before having the marigold
Be careful. You are going against the "mob". People want prepackaged today. Want these characters to be exactly what they were in first episode, first season. This all comes from an Adult Graphic Comic. It does not have to be..... "And they lived happily ever after". But that is all people expect now. The Show was not very good. Too rushed. But the premise made sense. And I'm glad this versions of the "Academy" are the ones who made the sacrifice. None seemed so happy with their lives.

My dear Klaus was gutted. I LOVE KLAUS probably one of my favorite characters in a LONG time and he did a full 360 and even took low blows at Allison. Which is unlike him. Very off putting. His character had so much pain, depth, and charisma. Thats gone 😢.

I don't remember Viktor being all bratty and rude, saying "fuck" and "shit" every sentence :/ In previous season, Diego was the "rude" one, which suits his character. The others were never like that, if memory serves right
Healing from addiction isn't a straight path either and the extremes shown exist and people do go through that. They definitely could have been more fluid about it though so it didn't feel as sudden.
What this season tells me is that they never really had a clear vision for where they wanted this show to end up. It’s like they were expecting the ending to somehow organically unfold as they went through the seasons but it didn’t happen and they threw a bunch of random nothing together.
The director/writer whomever said they knew exactly how it would end since season 1. I think the problem is they weren't sure how to get there after the 1st couple seasons and after the comics.
Season 3 imo is the end of the story, they lost their powers then went to live normal lives the end, season 4 made no sense, why would five up multiple times and not try fix What's happening, he speaks to a veriant of himself they decides oh okay, made zero sense, season 4 was just bad fan fiction
Sadly, I think it's more simple than that. There is no equivalent to season 4 in the comics and the writers just weren't able to come up with a cannon appropriate ending to the show on their own.
@@Blakbloodedto me that sound like an excuse tho they themselves are still Hollywood writers they could have literally piggybacked off the ending of season 3 that’s a easy start. But they chose not to and ruined the plot
i agree with just about everything you said in this video, season 4 just feels like a weird fever dream. the whole season just felt sloppy, felt like a part of my heart was ripped out of my chest and dried out. i thought this season would answer all my questions and yet im left with more. disappointing
The only thing I kinda disagree on is that I really liked Nick Offerman and Meagan Mullaly’s bits in the show and for a while it was the only thing saving an otherwise nothing season for me. BUT the only reason is because it reminded me of their characters from Parks and Rec and any time I see them act together I get giddy because I think being able to act crazy with your spouse seems fun. I was incredibly biased only because of who the casting was and not what the story had them do which I agree is not a good enough thing to salvage the season and I just feel incredibly bad for all the actors involved because they deserve better. Plus technically there was a few mini dance scene between Gene and Jean and Luther stripping and while the writers may think it counts, I don’t.
i don’t understand why Lila’s “upgrade” wasn’t to be able to use two powers at once with the trade off of each being slightly weaker than the original? or to have some kind of psychic link to the person that she is copying? but oh no we can’t let the cool gimmicks be useful for the narrative
Weird things: 1) the cult was right about the changes in the universe. 2) what was up with the ginormous squid? 3) 5’s powers don’t work until… they need them too.
I also hate how they had klaus immediately give up 3 years of sobriety just because he got his powers back they could’ve given us a storyline with him using his powers while sober as soon as Allison poured the marigold in him he was like 3 years down the drain but it didn’t have to be also Reggie’s wife setting this whole thing in motion because she wasn’t supposed to come back to life is crazy because the world really didn’t need to end the umbrellas really didn’t need to go through any of this them being born was not the problem it was very clear them having powers was the world was fine for 6 years because they had no powers then it ended again the same week they get them back she manipulated them into causing the end of the world for no real reason and them having a different version of 5 tell main 5 the family is the problem is just ridiculous because it’s really the powers if they never got their powers back the world would’ve been fine even if they did still go find Jennifer they wouldn’t have had marigold in them so even if they touched her no cleanse the world would’ve kept movin
To give this season an undeserved benefit of the doubt I actually do get why Klaus would relapse. Addiction is a very difficult thing to manage especially if past triggers rear their heads again. Klaus didn't want his powers again, reverting to his "old" self is like having some form of control over something he didn't even want. It isn't rational but it isn't meant to be, I just wished they leaned into that more instead of it being a reason to make Klaus' character busy with some sort of subplot. I think it would have been good representation if Klaus didn't "fully" (i use that loosely since the show didn't really do anything with it. They kind of kept Klaus in this neutral state before he was buried) regress especially during the conversation he has with Claire. To show that those that relate to Klaus can get better. But the writers needed something to do with Allison so they made her go after Klaus when he got in trouble with Quinn. There was something there but Netflix just wanted their check.
@@ringking8880Klaus has a deleted scene where hw actually goes to a meeting after he's buried alive. He realizes that his addiction isn't actually helping him control anything but rather wreaking havoc on himself and the people around him. It was beautiful and important but it got fucking cut out
I seriously hate Reggie's wife. I can't believe how they ended up making an even more selfish and manipulative character than Reggie but here we are. And on top of that she actually thinks she is a good person like no maam, you are dumb 😂
@@ringking8880 I mean like couldn’t we have seen him at least try to stay sober. It was like as soon as he got his powers back he was just like immediately like well. I gotta go do drugs
Honestly, Luther was my favourite this season, purely because he was trying to get the family back together and was being really sweet to all his siblings, and everyone else was frankly just annoying and didn't care about anyone but themselves. And, fr, they did Diego so dirty with all those comments about his body, like Lila kept saying he had a big tummy, like, b*tch are you blind? Your man is fine as hell and shredded as f*ck.
@@DarkEclipse23Bro, what gut? They made it out to seem like he had gained weight by all the comments and him struggling to put his suit on, but in the scene in the CIA building when him and Luther are fighting and his shirt gets ripped off you can see he doesn't have a gut. I think it was the opposite, they tried to play into the whole "fat dad" joke, but he's not fat, nor does he have a "dad bod".
He was clearly my fav this season, the only think that upset me is that he mentionned Sloane only one time. Did he tried to find her and just abandonned? Why is he happy when the only good things happening to him disappeared?
@@tiraeye7Yeah, like he was so obsessed with her in season 3, but then she's just gone for no reason and he only mentions her once or twice, like how is my dude not depressed?
Abigail doesn't shape shift, she just uses a human's skin as a "host" to hide her Alienness. This actually explains how Hargreaves can hide his alieness as well (shown in Sesson 2)
Also because they all lost their powers, if Ben never spiked everyone’s drinks with the marigold then Jenifer and Ben would never have merged into that monster and the timeline would have been okay (probably). I don’t think that they all needed to cease to exist they just needed to live without their powers.
I might be stupid, but I don't see why they sacrificed themselves if the "perfect" timeline existed regardless. All they did was clean up the subway system that no one else can use. They died for something they didn't believe-in or want. This season sucked big fucking balls regardless of the ending
Yeah literally the ONLY problem that the multiple timelines created was “things passing through” and a cult. Oh no there are two identical movies with different actors leading it oooooo better go get erased from all of the universe!
The part when they had to die make sense, cause they were improbabilities that should have never existed. Hence the universe created the apocalypse that followed them to fix the problem. As well as creating multiverse as an anomaly because of their time jumping. I understand they had to die to fix that. But I don't like how they did it. They could have still be born in original timeline from 2 parents, similar yet different.
@@MsLaetitia26see what confuses me is that, I can accept that they have to do or forever jump from universe to universe causing the apocolypse… but what I dont understand is why it would only be the umbrella academy and not the 30 something other ppl who got the merigold and their father just couldnt find??? Wouldnt that automatically mean all the merigold was not destroyed and therefore the cycle continues?? Hell they could have made this season about finding those other guys and making an elaborate scheme to get them all together for a final showdown or something man lmao
When I saw the teaser trailer with the cool subway map, I was so looking forward to the UA racing across thousands of timelines, maybe to play different versions of Reginald agaist each other to finally get rid of him. Only to find out that in the end it was only a maze to trap Five and Lila in a side-plot, where apparently it is quite easy to retrace your steps to a timeline with strawberries but apparently no other living human being (not even siblings from the UA), but impossible to find your original timeline during a seven-year search without a key book. A key which apparently another version of Five could work out on a few pages.
I wouldn’t call this “character development” but seeing five, who previously demanded that his family leave behind their loved ones in S2 and literally threatened to kill them when they disagreed get the exact same treatment from Lila was almost satisfying. He literally cares about his siblings survival, and nothing more. He got told by the person whom he arguably loved most in his life that his feelings meant nothing to her word for word, the exact same way five had treated his siblings for so long. It’s such a cruel joke and bro got what he deserved. I don’t see it as romance, I see it as karma. The plot line used to lead up to this is so incredibly ass though- how did they travel to every timeline on their map and not find a single good one? Obviously they mis navigated, but how did they fuck up so badly? Why is five 30 IQ points lower???
They didn't stumble across the marigold, it was given to them by Abigail because she knew one of them needed to interact with Jennifer with it. But that brings up one big question for me...If it was the marigold that was needed, and not specifically Ben or any of the umbrella academy members. Why did she give them the marigold? Why not just give the marigold to Jennifer directly? I feel like they built Ben up to be crucial to this ending as if it were fated but then their whole explanation for how the cleanse comes about doesn't seem to require Ben or the umbrella academy at all, just the marigold. And all the other kids with powers like you mentioned, clearly their marigold would be needed to bring about the cleanse too. And they should all still have their powers since their marigold wasn't sucked out of them like the umbrella academy members. And what about all the other infinite Fives from their timelines and their marigold? Does the cleanse only need to kick off in one timeline to destroy all the others? And if Lyla's kids/family could continue to exist even if she never existed, then why couldn't Viktor have just consumed all the marigold from his siblings and sacrifice himself while all the others escaped with the kids, then maybe they would get to continue to exist as well? A lot of this could have been explained away if they just said something like "oh, the marigold needs to have a vessel in order to interact with the Durango vessel (Jennifer)" or something. But all they said was that the cleanse happens with Marigold interacts with Durango.
Seasons 1 and 2 were peak Umbrella Academy, because it was more about the family relationship than anything. Season 1 was all about what happens to a family when the abusive father dies. It's about the family realizing that they are a family, and that the only way to fix their broken relationships is to connect with one another. Season 2 is all about the family finally coming together to fix each other. They live different lives and find out both about themselves and each other, lessons that they didn't really have time to digest in season 1. But season 4 just feels like it's a bullet train to the finish line. There is no character development (aside from Diego), nothing that happens matters, and everything before is retconned to have never mattered.
I kinda feel like, there is development for Viktor, I always hated seeing him so down and Sad, and in this season, he actually had a back bone, told Alison straight up, I really like the attitude going on, but I’m sad he ain’t got his get back at that bitch.
I wouldn’t call this “character development” but seeing five, who previously demanded that his family leave behind their loved ones in S2 and literally threatened to kill them when they disagreed get the exact same treatment from Lila was almost satisfying. He got told by the person whom he arguably loved most in his life that his feelings meant nothing to her word for word, the exact same way five had treated his siblings for so long. It’s such a cruel joke and bro got what he deserved. I feel so sorry for poor Diego
I was actually okay with season 4, until I started to watch all these reviews. They have such a long break between seasons 3 and 4 that I didn’t even remember what was happening in the first three seasons. So, I didn’t really catch any inconsistencies, except the super disturbing relationship between five and Lila. I skipped all their parts.
Same. I didn't mind the first 4 episodes, but they wrapped it up so terribly. I hated Jennifer, she was so useless, and ben was ruined with her. And it felt like none of the others were even trying to stop the cleanse, other than viktor, everyone was just on their own side quest. I especially hated how they sidelined klaus, my fave character since s1. And them erasing everyone was probably the worst ending they could've chosen.
The only real problem i had with the season was the five and lila relationship. Other than that I thought the season was OK. With some of the points in this video i get the feeli g he had this on in the background rather than actively watching it because there are answers to some of what he's confused about IN the show.
The first time they tried to give klaus Marigold, he dumped it over his shoulder and we clearly see it land on some random man. Maybe UA isn’t over and they’ll actually redeem themselves for terrible writing.
The biggest problem is they turned the story into a slap stick comedy. Stupid stuff. They ruined all the characters. 5 was always a snarky, sarcastic character but they took all that away from him. I got tired of Alison’s angry mother act. They extended back to season 2 and 3 and it got really old. They turned Diego into a clown just like Luther. Terribly disappointed with this season. Meh.
In terms of Allison, I kind of like how it seems to hint that the only reason she was a successful actress was because she could influence them. Whether it was "I heard a rumor"ing them, or just how she naturally learns to control people. It's an interesting aspect since, now she has to rely on talent she has none. That or she feels so sad that she doesn't feel she deserves it. I like to think it's the former.
@@kenneth465 She became an absolute biatch in season 3, I know she has alot of trauma but come on man, she became a cringe, rude, creepy person and also hypnotised Luther to love her even tho she was the one to stop the thing they had between them first in season 2? (Not sure because I haven't watched the show in a while)
I agree. Her learning to cope with that she’s no longer able to live up to her name would’ve been meaningful in a way, considering she didn’t have any genuine love for acting. The entire reason that she did it was the fame, money and attention, aka all the wrong reasons. Allison is incredibly impulsive, and it would have been so much more satisfying for her to have to deal with the fallout of getting exactly what she wanted once again, at the cost of completely alienating her siblings.
Wasn't this blatantly established in like season 1 that the only reason she had any fame + her daughter was due to rumoring directors/her husband cause she knew she couldn't act?
@@ViscountBiltmore i’m not sure if it was ever stated that she has little talent, afaik i “only” remember her rumouring casting directors to give her prestigious roles, to get higher pay, recommendations and so on. so while it might not all be lies, it’s pretty clear that her powers are the reason she got “noticed” and became as famous as she was (and now no longer is). considering how much of a perfectionist she is, and how poorly she handles things when she’s frustrated, i could also imagine that she had some talent but got into the habit of using her powers whenever she failed, making her much more successful than she otherwise would have been
They were trying to do an iron man ending but they didnt even have a thanos lol. Like, reginald was heading to be the main villain of everything but then they made him good? They want us to sympathize with him? He did all that because of his wife womp womp. What a waste
It would've been way better if they focused more on Abigail realising what Reginald did to bring her back and how he abused the Umbrellas, so she helps them fix the timeline with Reginald as the main villain trying to preserve things for Abigail but also the power he has gained. He claims everything he did was for Abigail, but he did so many things he knew she wouldn't have agreed with. Heck, that could've tied it back to Allison and Raymond with Raymond paralleling Abigail and Allison having to accept her husband's wishes rather than forcing things like Reginald did. It would've been a far better story if Reginald was the villain, the broken timeline was the threat, and they just got rid of Jennifer and the Cleanse thing, or maybe made Jennifer a little side plot for Sparrow Ben because he couldn't save her in his timeline (being why Sparrow Ben survived), but it puts him on his predestined course to die for Jennifer like the OG Ben did. Playing into the tragedy of trying to save someone you love but just hurting them when you are unable to let them go.
Also though Klaus was going to light himself on fire to get out of the coffin. How is it we came up with a more interesting scenario than a room full of writers? So bad lol
as for the “klaus is immortal” plot hole - they were wiping themselves from existence, which is beyond death. anyways, i was hoping to find some video essays about this season, so thank you!! was interested in hearing others’ analyses of it
I hated how they explained the Ben and Jennifer death originally like okay he changed the memories of all the kids who were alive but he couldn't have possibly changed a ghost's memory so why would ghost Ben keep the fact that his father killed him a secret that just makes absolutely no sense
I would’ve loved for the umbrellas to live and instead transported in their respective timelines/eras where they are most happy. Klaus with the guy at nam. Ben with that one cultist girl. Lila and diego together. Viktor with missy. Five maybe starting the commission. And for luther it would’ve been cool if he got stuck with five instead and found a sloane from an alternate timeline and he kinda does a captain america after end game showing up aged but happy. And allison having Claire and maybe staying with viktor and fixing their sibling bond (which is by far the strongest out of the family before season 3)
To me the biggest plot hole is the fact that Reginald recreated the entire universe, but didn’t erase Jennifer from existing in the new timeline? Jenifer clearly exists in S3 timeline bc of Ben’s drawings. And he is able to take the marigold away from the main characters, so why not with her? Yeah, Allison killed him before he could finish everything but the thing is that he is always ahead of everyone, no way he wouldn’t have made that a priority to erase. It’s insane that conveniently the only thing he didn’t erase was Jennifer
Five and Lila was honestly the most disgusting thing I have ever seen. Not even just the age gap in real life is bad, the age gap in universe is also bad, assuming Lila was around 30 in season 2, she would be in her early to mid 40s, where as Five would be in his early 70s (mentally) and in his mid twenties physically. Not to mention it just doesn't make any sense, like Five was in love with Dolores, but just forgot about her, and he was willing to leave his family (his main motivation throughout the show) behind for someone he has never showed any interest in and always hated. They just made Five an asshole, and it honestly felt more like fan fiction than anything else. The whole "desperately in love but can't have the girl" thing was honestly just weird and out of character. And, is anyone else confused about where they stood in the end? Like, she told him it was just for survival, but when asked if she loved him she didn't say anything, which we all know means yes, but why? And then they held hands in the end 🤢🤮 worst season by FAR and so disappointing, wish it was cancelled honestly.
Their whole thing had me cringing. It’s really WEIRD. They’re 15 years apart in real life and people were saying it’s basically like they were grooming Aidan Gallagher for it
Cancelled? That was the Finale. There will be no more. The whole 5 and Lula thing made me mad,but not because of any age difference, but because of Diego...There was no need for that. As to what happens in the end,she picks Diego.
Best part of this season was Jean and Gene. The acting from Mullaly and Offerman was *chef's kiss*. In a better season, they would have been great villains. Also, put respect on Megan Mulally's name! Will & Grace?! Karen?! She's amazing imo.
I didn't understand the CIA segment. Was dad an alien of bugs or what was going on with that? Why would Klaus go back to a dealer he owed $ to?? But the scene of 5 alone riding the subway after lila with the song was soooo good.
Watching this reminded me how Robert Sheehan keeps playing unkillable characters in different franchises. Misfits, Mortal Instruments, and Umbrella Academy lol He’s always the comic relief as well. That’s quite a typecast to hold for so long
That's Netflix for you, had they let them get a full season of 8-10 episodes they could've fully fleshed it out and we wouldn't be left with a rushed ending, i still think this season was entertaining but if they had time a longer run time it could've been something really special
I thought the funniest part was when viktor was first introduced this season and the guys in the bar rag on viktor for going through every lady in town lol. Hilarious.
@@thestockimagequeen or atleast like grief or have her show up with Harlen in the fixed timeline at the end, happy. But no. Nothing... Very disappointing
The only redeeming quality of this season is that it's over and done with. I WISH another production company could buy the rights to the show and develop a season 5 or more seasons. Because the show was and is amazing over all.
Nah. I think usually anything over 5-10 seasons in a show is bad. Unless it’s a cartoon. Plus it’s so intense and convoluted that I think 3 is enough. Also the actors may want to do other projects you know.
Five this season made me feel like he is a teenager starting to fall in love for the first time, the old man's soul inside him has disappeared. This is sad as I used to find Adrian Gallagher's acting is so good that I couldn't believe he is still a kid, but this season just ruined everything. I will just erase my memory for this season too...
Five started to be left in the dust since the third season.. but now, man everything about him is this season was a trash and a waste with my favorite character, him and Lila together was disgusting
They canceling there being two Ben’s (end credit scene in season 3) is crazy cause it could’ve been the best plot ever but instead they used a lame excuse to cancel the idea. Also they barely explored these new powers they gained. If they wanted to do new powers, they should’ve expanded more on it. I know there are only 6 episodes, but if that were the case, just keep their old powers.
heres the thing though. if they pop up with season five and the only trailer is all the characters waking up and slowly realizing they're not in the same universes they will have got us hooked.
7:22 exactly what i was thinking at least is kinda like from vampire diaries with Bonnie and Damon. Bonnie HATED Damon throughout the show and after being trapped in a world with just the two of them for so long and getting through stuff, they became the best of friends, the closest of friends to each other and Bonnie even affected Damon in a positive way. why couldn't that have happened but with Lila and Five ??
I think Jennifer coming out of the squid was a dumb "Squids come out of Ben so his opposite comes out of a squid"... It's ridiculous really... Also, I think the issues with Elliot's scenes were less his acting and more direction he was given. I'm sure he was told that he needed to be angry all the time.
Okay, this is my fix for the storyline. So Ben starts off as a villain for this season, he wants to end the world to get back at the umbrella academy (and reginald) for basically killing his family. He's working with Gene and Jean to find Jennifer and cause the Cleanse. He knows about Jennifer because he is slowly gaining memories from the original Ben which will eventually cause him to change his mind and turn on J&G. Throughout the season we see the timeline glitching and more objects appearing from other worlds, one of the glitches gives everyone their powers back, but the twist is that every time there is a glitch they swap powers, with the exception of lila. Lila & 5 still get their adventure, but instead they bond over shared trauma from the Handler and commission and seeing so many broken versions of realities they realize that family is what matters to them. 5 & Lila meet the others 5's and it is revealed that Lila is special and has no alternates because she is the only case of Marigold occurring naturally in the world, with no durango counterpart, she was simply mistaken as one of the 43. 5's power gets swapped to one of the others (luther maybe) and they are rescued. 5 realises that with the extra Marigold in Lila they should be able to cancel out all of the durango and use the leftover to fuse the timelines back together, thereby eliminating the threat of an apocalypse and fixing the multiverse at the same time. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.
I thought the ending was just a really bad version of the German series Dark, like the way they have to sacrifice themselves to fix the broken timelines is so similar but Dark does it so much better
Yeah the def saw dark and were like let’s do something like that. Meanwhile there are so many plot holes that make it weird. Like they weren’t the only people with the marigold! And why did Abigail give Reginald the marigold in the first place?? I don’t get it. Like sure he shouldn’t have used it to bring her back to life but what does that have to do with the Umbrella Academy??? Also Reginald still exists in the main timeline! He is not a product of marigold! So what’s stopping him from breaking the universe again? We are really running on vibes and it’s a shame because looking bad at the show, I miss my fav chaotic siblings. They were brilliantly dysfunctional and to see them go out like this is terrible.
I think the writers of season 4 have never seen the first 3 seasons. I hate that Lila and Five hooked up. Why is marigold making 1 an ape man?? Someone else mentioned that Lila and Diego actually had a bracelet thing in the beginning. Again, someone mentioned that Klaus was trafficked and we just lackadaisically moved on. Ugh......

Which one is worst, the accolyte or umbrella?
I just now discovered your channel. Too bad I discovered it on such a trash can of a show. Neither of us will ever get this time back. Keep up the great work.
Done!
That my kinda honest review! Great great questions at the end there, too!
u pinned ur own comment that couldabeen placed in the description, thats why u got less than 6k subs.
They butchered Luther, he went from being the responsible older brother and leader to being an absolute idiot.
thor arc but worse
His character arc was literally being at rock bottom and then finding out a plot twist. That was his big moment; when he got attacked by bad guys.
Yup
Sort of like Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story 4.
Why did Luther turn back into an ape man? His original power was super-strength. His apelike appearance was caused by Hargreaves injecting him with an ape serum after he was fatally injured on a mission. The Marigold should have just given him his super-strength back
Exactly, make it make sense!
The reason is that the writers wanted to show hairy Luther in a g string 🤦♀️
Yes!!! That annoyed me too
Stick to the rules of the situation...its not hard to do
You put more thought into it than the writers did, smh
Trurh
Of all things I'm still stuck on "Lila hates bracelets"
In season 2 Lila steals a bracelet Diego made, she wears it the entire season and then drops it at the end, Diego picks it up and then gives it back to her in s3 when they get back together.
That bracelet was their whole thing...
I missed the damn bracelet 😢😢😢
Maybe it's a clue. A way of them letting us know that none of these characters are gonna live up to the prev 3 seasons😅
Good point
and even if that didnt happen - who hates bracelets? why? how did he immediately go to - oh my god! five mustve gave her it! and even if he did, bracelets arent always a romantic gesture..? if my brother made my gf a bracelet id be like 'oh theyre getting along! nice!'
😂 Dude I forgot about that. Man this alone confirms they made this season terrible on purpose
Also the fact that Klaus literally got trafficked and it was brushed off as a joke or something?? In comparison to how the first season depicted Klaus going through something traumatic in such a realistic and visceral way this season’s plotline did not handle it tactfully at all
oh you're so right... klaus spent multiple seasons dealing with trauma and instead of resolving that they just traumatized him again 💀
It’s a fictional show about fictional characters.
There’s no need to be tactful because none of the characters are real people
@@jdub36
So like- I agree with you in theory!
Nobody freaks out over it
@@jdub36no I’m sorry ur wrong 😭
1. It was most definitely NOT consensual. He was imprisoned and forced to work as a prostitute there were literally bars on his windows. They also made a point of writing it into the show in season 2 that possession makes him feel violated
2. Trafficking is a real life issue this happens to real people every single day and it’s horrific. They chose the Vietnam war for a reason because it wasn’t relevant in modern day and wasn’t actively affecting as many people so for them to pass this off as haha funny Klaus getting into his nonsense is so weird
3. If they were going to lower the stakes and have the characters be less affected by trauma that would be one thing, but when you compare season one, which handles it very realistically in a way that affects the audience, and season four, it’s blaringly different. There’s a reason people are saying season 4 wasn’t as impactful
4. It’s the realistic emotions and character developments that makes this show so interesting. If you want to watch something thats all punches and powers and no depth, go watch a marvel movie
'I heard a rumor' that Umbrella Academy ended in Season 3 and everyond lived their normal lives happily ever after
I heard a rumor that season 4 of The Umbrella Academy never existed and got erased with the marigold. Or at least make the characters still be born at a later time since most of the mothers were teenagers without powers or the umbrella academy to end the series and let them live their lives. The whole Lila and Five relationship felt like a crackhead’s fan fiction.
plus the fact Lila is younger or older depending on how u look at it so it was kind of gross because 5 was either like that fat old man or he was younger version 5 either way Lila should not be sleeping with him
Liked Lila as 5’s(non romantic) partner in his adventures tho
very cringy and unnecessary. Nothing would of changed if they did not add that arc in there, especially since they all died anyway...
the dynamics were all fucked up. sure aidan is 20 now but ritu is 35 and knew him when he was what, like 15? 16? that just makes it *weird* that they'd make them kiss and fall in love onscreen. in umbrella academy canon, he's in his sixties and she's in her thirties, that's a weird ass dynamic too! they just really should not have given five a love interest past dolores, giving him a mannequin is a safe option lmao, we dont have to deal with weird age dynamics. five is better off with no love interest. it was what made him a good character and different from the others, he didnt care about a relationship, only his mission (and wanting to have a break with his family once they ended the apocalypse). the subway sequence was so unneccessary and had no reason to have them stuck there for 7 years?? literally WHAT was the reason for the writers to ship them together. i thought their dynamic in season 2 and 3 were cute, them slowly tolerating each other and building a good friendship. NOT EVERYTHING HAS TO BE ENEMIES TO LOVERS
anyway, that's my little silly rant. i know its not that serious, i just enjoy complaining. i also quite enjoyed the season, despite hating the storyline, it was good to see the umbrellas together again :)
Just watched another interview that kinda insinuated that they were just waiting for Aidan to turn 18 🤢
I just don't understand. They literally erased everything developed in the last 3 seasons. Why did Netflix and the writers hate this show?
They made they own rules they said f the fans , the logic the story the mystery oh and let’s not give them answers to anything oh and let’s ruin the favorite characters and turned them into flowers
I had hope then once ep 4 hit I was stressing like how are they gonna wrap this up in 2 hours
@LipstickNWhiskey
I get that. But surely there was a way to end the show that didn't destroy it. Most shows never even get an ending, but if this is what we get, I'd rather it have ended unresolved with season 3.
Season peaked when the baby shark van ran over santa....
That WAS the climax of the best episode of the season
You are so real for this.
Yeah up until five went to deli with other fives. That and cia fight. Everything else was cringe.
Yes! After that everything spiraled. But up until then I was having a good time.
If it wasn’t for baby shark in the episode I would’ve loved it.
I was literally thinking five and Lila has a great platonic relationship, having similar pasts and all. Then the kiss happened
I was literally telling my boyfriend that they have the most sibling-like dynamic only for them to kiss 10 mins later
shows when they have a healthy man and woman friendship: NOW KISS!!!
That completely killed all hope of his character for me
What annoyed me most was Dave (the lack of)

Well to be fair, Klaus went through training with Season 3 Reginald plus he did overcome his trauma in order to fully use his power.
What really bugged me about Lila was, that during the seven years, she not ONCE mentioned Diego or her kids, missing any of them etc. She was so willing to just leave and that was that.
Then SUDDENLY when they can get back, she's like "oh no my children" as if she cared at all
Plus, five is so smart.
Exactly this!!! and she didn't seem to feel bad about being with five and didn't redeem her relationship with Diego at all

He was so capable when he fought them in season 2, to see him not even attempt to fight and having a military instead just didn’t make any sense. i will forever forgive the writers for ruining everyone's character. mainly five and lila. five loves his family more then literally anything in the world. he murdered people, he made shady deals, he broke time and space for his family. he spent 40+ years in the og apocalypse timeline and he remained somewhat sane(?) and only his family was in his mind. he traveled back in time to save his family yet they want us to believe 7 years made him forget about them and hurt them??
even if five were to fall for lila he would never act on those feelings. he would rather suffer then betray his brother. have the writers even consider the previous seasons?? any prior season five would've killed season 4 five. he was reduced into some lovesick fool who had an affair with his sister-in-law. what makes it sad we never got to goodbye to him. season 3 is where everything ended in my opinion.

Agreed, I was hoping to see adult Luthor with his super strength and a normal body
They wasted money putting him in that gorilla suit. Luther got the gorilla DNA when he was injured, all the marigold should’ve given him was strength. 🤦🏽♀️ Tom Hopper has said the suit is uncomfortable to wear too so it was all around a waste.
That was the exact moment I thought “oh shit, this might end badly if they didn’t pay attention to the little details”
But then they implied that their powers are slightly different with Allison gaining telekinesis, Viktor not going pale when using his powers, etc. and I almost could’ve accepted it… if episode 4, 5, and 6 had been so much better.

While everyone is off doing the most irrelevant side quests, Viktor who is NUMBER SEVEN is the only one trying to stop Jennifer and Ben from merging

Did AI write this season? If not, someone in charge really hated this show to green light this script.
Nah. AI would've rocked it! This is definitely human error!
Pretty sure it was AI. The context limit shows itself through the S4 plot forgetting about all the build up established in the prior seasons.

I understand toilet humor, but there's a difference between "haha fart joke", like with Five in season 2 with the time paradoxes, and characters straight up vomiting for 1 minute straight in front of the camera with nothing added to it. Here’s how I would have concluded each character in this final season:
Luther: he is Number 1, they should’ve developed his time being a leader and LED his family for the final time defeating Reginald
Viktor: I wish they would’ve had him come back to his talents with Violin and found love for music once more
Allison: she should’ve had a “redemption” arc for her action she caused in season 3 to get the family to forgive her
Diego/Lila: they definitely had a good direction in the beginning of the episodes as a struggling parents. They should’ve resolved that
Ben: I think Ben should ended up time trapped with Five.

Definitely better than what we got in season 4
This is a MUCH better concept. Now do the rest 😉
I heard a rumor season four never happened
Diego was treated like a joke truly, boy got cheated on by his own brother. But the baby shark van scenes were hilarious.
As far as I'm concerned, the series ended with Season 3. They dropped the ball on all these characters' journeys and then slapped us in the face by saying none of it mattered in the end. I think I'll just make up a final season in my head and pretend that happened.
Nah, season 2
For me, season 2 is the ending. That's my head canon

My problem is that the season 4 is not that bad, its just empty, no hate, no love, no fun, and they nerf five badly
@@donny1960 finally, someone who isn't jumping on the bandwagon of shitting all over something just because they didn't like it or the characters changed or they didn't get a happy ending. @@Ladyflame452 All is subjective. But the reasons people are disappointed are basically that it is not how they wanted it to end. Again, a lazy reason. But the "mob" usually get their way. I can be critical and still appreciate the effort. That is not practiced much these days. It is either, exactly what I wanted. Or completely worthless.
@@Ladyflame452 I find it odd that you like a season with so many holes and missing pieces… it’s almost like you didn’t watch any of the previous seasons, and if you did you should probably go watch them again bc you’re outting yourself as someone who doesn’t pay any attention
@Ladyflame452 no one is dismissing how hard the people involved worked. However, it's hard to enjoy a season with so much plot holes, character assassinations, inconsistencies, unnecessary scenes/fillers. There were so many flaws and I'm not personally blaming anyone because who really knows who is responsible for this mess but I cant hide my disappointment with this season honestly
The message to the broken people of the world that “you’re what’s wrong with the world, kill yourself” is just plain wrong and horrible!! It’s just really painful when they had something so good and then sabotaged everything so they could just move on.
Damn that didn’t sit well with me
Your interpretation is what's wrong. These people made a sacrifice to make the World whole again. And there were a million ways they could have "moved on". They chose this one. You don't have to like it.
@@donny1960 it was a sacrifice that they could not have properly been responsible for. reginald caused them to exist with the marigold, let me remind you. the whole ordeal with the apocalypse being solved with their death is a bit of an extreme message to put in a show which was otherwise light-hearted.
@@releasemyheart Let me remind you. That the whole world kept getting destroyed. Not my idea of "lighthearted". They ended it like they did. It was in perfect symmetry. Regardless of who "started" it. It needed to stop. It did.
@@donny1960But it wasn't earned in the slightest bit. They never resolved their issues, five and Diego died hating each other, Klaus died as an addict again, Luther and Alison got back seated and became caricatures of their own characters (Bumbling idiot and protective mother) and Viktor's efforts didn't pay off. Regardless of the ending, which could have been good if they had actually put any effort on it, the main plot of TUA is being a family drama not a super hero story. They can't have their superhero ending without resolving familial relationships too.
My dear Klaus was gutted. I LOVE KLAUS probably one of my favorite characters in a LONG time and he did a full 360 and even took low blows at Allison. Which is unlike him. Very off putting. His character had so much pain, depth, and charisma. Thats gone 😢.
Not only Klaus, I feel like the whole family now communicates like 13 year old in a teenage crisis...
The fourth volume of the comics hasn't been published, that might be why.
The director/writer whomever said they knew exactly how it would end since season 1. I think the problem is they weren't sure how to get there after the 1st couple seasons and after the comics.

@@anthonycastro3604 Don't worry. I will.
Season 3 imo is the end of the story, they lost their powers then went to live normal lives the end, season 4 made no sense, why would five up multiple times and not try fix What's happening, he speaks to a veriant of himself they decides oh okay, made zero sense, season 4 was just bad fan fiction
I struggled through 3 and I just can’t do 4. That’s why I’m here ….
I dropped it at season 3 and was considering picking the show up again when season 4 about to drop, Now I see there's absolutely no reason to
My conspiracy theory is they did it on purpose to show Netflix how outraged people would be that they didn’t get approved for a full full season
That actually makes sense
Sadly, I think it's more simple than that. There is no equivalent to season 4 in the comics and the writers just weren't able to come up with a cannon appropriate ending to the show on their own.
Makes a lot of sense
@@Blakbloodedto me that sound like an excuse tho they themselves are still Hollywood writers they could have literally piggybacked off the ending of season 3 that’s a easy start. But they chose not to and ruined the plot

i agree with just about everything you said in this video, season 4 just feels like a weird fever dream. the whole season just felt sloppy, felt like a part of my heart was ripped out of my chest and dried out. i thought this season would answer all my questions and yet im left with more. disappointing
Fever dream fr
Weird things:
1) the cult was right about the changes in the universe.
2) what was up with the ginormous squid?
3) 5’s powers don’t work until… they need them too.
I wonder if the squid was supposed to be an avatar of Ben.
Sure that's weird, but this is UA.

Well he did have a gut and they emphasized it. They just retconned it so they could have a ripped topless fight ;0
Yea seeing Luther free and healing it was cute 💖

This season sucked big fucking balls regardless of the ending
i think if they went to the perfect timeline they would just bring the apocalyps whit them.
Yeah literally the ONLY problem that the multiple timelines created was “things passing through” and a cult. Oh no there are two identical movies with different actors leading it oooooo better go get erased from all of the universe!
Maybe because with a multiverse like that, there would be an infinite amount of timelines with people suffering. That's my theory at least.
That's literally the worst ending to any show ever
wtf did they do.
Was actually impressive how they managed to destroy everything in 6 episodes
EXACTLY !! they just didn't felt like a family anymore, especially with ben 2.0 which we had 0 attachement with

Same! 😂 But I was so confused about Abigail.
When Allison gave Klaus the marigold in episode 2 THERE WAS MORE MARIGOLD IN THE JAR IT WASN’T EMPTY.
EXACTLY I THOUGHT THE SAME THING LIKE MY ORIGINAL THEORY ABOUT THAT WAS THAT SOMEONE AVERAGE WOULD DRINK THE MARIGOLD
Meh.

Wtf ?? Nah nothing with " techincally" but they have such a good chemistry, and, being stuck together for 7 years : make sense
@@laurine____7543there was no chemistry between them imo I was cringing everytime they showed up together
They ruined her character in Season 3, omg. I will always be upset bout it in 2022. They assassinated her character so bad in the last one.
They've definitely been softening Sir Reginald in the least two seasons.

Make it slightly worse he was only 20 when it was filmed. He barely turned 21 in September

Also they barely explored these new powers they gained. If they wanted to do new powers, they should’ve expanded more on it. I know there are only 6 episodes, but if that were the case, just keep their old powers.
heres the thing though. if they pop up with season five and the only trailer is all the characters waking up and slowly realizing they're not in the same universes they will have got us hooked.
wow that would be great.
On god! they had such a good relationship. Damon and Bonnie were so awesome BECAUSE there was no forced relationship
Not a he though.. ellen and the character was trash
@@AnDr3w066 How about you keep your transphobia to yourself, man?
@@AnDr3w066what?
Thank you for coming to my ted talk.
literally the whole fling with Layla was so bad like. they are like brother and sister
I thought the ending was just a really bad version of the German series Dark, like the way they have to sacrifice themselves to fix the broken timelines is so similar but Dark does it so much better
In Dark it actually made sense cause they tried many other options
1:18 sounds like something Klaus would say 🤣🤣🤣
I think the writers of season 4 have never seen the first 3 seasons.
I hate that Lila and Five hooked up.
Why is marigold making 1 an ape man??
Someone else mentioned that Lila and Diego actually had a bracelet thing in the beginning.
Again, someone mentioned that Klaus was trafficked and we just lackadaisically moved on.
Ugh......
