Thanks for watching the Strong Roots Farm. We are a small regenerative farm in Southern Ohio, raising Grassfed Beef, and Pasture Raised Pork, and Eggs. We are a profitable farm that strives to produce the highest quality of meat to our customers, and although we are focused on quality production on our farm we have a Homestead feel compared to the rest of our Big Ag community. Our Channel is focused on providing education through our experience to small farmers and homesteaders in order to build a strong sustainable community with Faith, Family, and Farming as the focus.
We are not full-time farmers. My wife, Jenny teaches 4th grade math at our local elementary school, and I'm an Industrial Engineer working at a near by production facility. We have 3 young boys and are all firm believers in Jesus Christ. I am a US Army Veteran who served 2 tours in Iraq. Together as a family we are extremely grateful that you have chosen to spend time with us by watching and commenting on our videos. Please let us know if we can help you on your journey in any way.
Thank you Jer
Great info.
Thanks
❤❤VIDEO ❤❤ love hearing you have a south poll bull ❤ if you ever want to do a ultra sound to see what your marbling rate is on each animal so you can choose the best genetics going forward ❤❤❤
Man just found your channel. Your cows look great!
Those cows you have only work in half the country well. The father you get south and west those don't work. Southwest you have to have brama or longhorn roper mixes. Most have trouble because their cattle doesn't fit the environment. The cows on my Arizona ranch need to be able to walk miles where here in Oklahoma yards. Still full blood beef don't do well from heat and humidity
You don’t know anything about the south poll breed 😂 red color animals handle the heat better 😂South Poll breed has better marbling and and has better grass genetics is the best 😂 longhorn doesn’t even compare to the weight gains 😂 you have 1 cow at 1000 to 2000 pound cow 😂 then you have 3 South Poll cows each at 900 to 1200 pound😂 every year the 900 pound cows give you 2 extra calf every year 😂 again red cows are out eating grass when white or black cows are in the shade 😂 biggest thing is the south poll gain more weight in the end you have 3 SOUTH POLL cows at 1000 pound each😂or you can have your one longhorn at 1400 pounds 😂 I would go with 3 south polls at 3000 pound of cows 😂 on the same ground the stocking rate 3x for south poll cows ❤ instead of 300 head of longhorns 😂😂😂 you can have 750 to 900 south poll❤ the math don’t lie, 1500 to 2000 pounds of meat that at $3 pound.. almost $6,000 difference at same stock ratio per acre ❤❤❤ Have a nice day
Thanks for the comment, I agree, I try to constantly say context is important, as well as this is what I do rather than everyone should do it this way. I’m curious how many acres you carry per cow?
Do you have mineral blocks you move with your cattle. How do you select what minerals are best.
We use free choice enterprise, free choice minerals. Plus salt and kelp.
What does the 3/1 ratio of cow belly to underspace tell you re: the cow?
For us it has been a common factor in good growing grass mothers that birth easy and produce good calves. They don’t waste energy with movement. They have room to produce good size calves, and transfer grass to beef without weighing over 1200 themselves. Negatives are they don’t travel long distances well like out west. These animals preform the best in our area (Midwest). In other areas your context may change these parameters. Thanks for watching.
