Thank you for this. I was just trying to figure out how to make crabapple jelly with crabapples from my purple spire columnar crabapple tree and this recipe fits the bill. Cost effective, and super easy!
Hi Maddie, that's great, we're really pleased we were able to help and that you liked the film! There are plenty of other films on the channel around making food and foraging that you might like. All UK based but hopefully still applicable in Canada! This is a nice foraging one ua-cam.com/video/ve_iaIa0mWM/v-deo.html plus we have two on pruning fruit trees, in summer and winter that might be of use ua-cam.com/video/iOCbWrMWjAg/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/WG686G32ClI/v-deo.html
Thank you so much ! It’s so nice of you to share your knowledge on the leaves too ! I think these tips should be handed down but alas the younger generation don’t seem bothered. I live in the UK and it’s so refreshing to hear an English accent on utube instead of an American. As they also use different measures.
Great to hear your leaf lesson. I have an apple tree and I now know it isn't crab. Fine hairs appear on the stem of the leaves. Also love your decor fabulous.
Very nice presentation. Yes; a small batch indeed, but it shows the process that is needed regardless of batch size. I'm watching this today as I just picked a couple bushels of apples from my Whitney crab and am looking on pointers for making jelly. FYI, most crab apples already contain pectin naturally. Pectin can be extracted from the skins of crab apples.
One of the things I remember about my grandfather's recipe was adding lemon juice when halfway through cooking as he was very particular about the smell being to satisfaction. Has the recipe changed in 28 years?
Nice to learn about the verjuice! Been wanting a use of crab apples without adding lots of sugar. Has anyone got any more recipes for using crab apples that doesn't involve using lots of sugar?
This lady is a treasure!

Please do more videos with Fi! She's so wonderful to listen to.
Agree!!
Great to hear that I don't have to remove stems, cut out bad spots, trim blossom ends, and cut in half! Saves a lot of work. thank you

My Nanna used to make crab apple jelly, back in the day when we didn't mind so much about the sugar 😉 Thank you for the happy memory!
