I've been shooting the M16A2/M4/AR15 platform since 1989, yeah I'm that old (51). A lot of things have changed over the years, but the basic design hasn't. My two cents is this. Start with a regular mil-spec set up. See what it's capable of. You as a shooter will be surprised at how well it performs. In most cases it will out perform you. Buying upgrades is good, and I'm all for it as long as it is truly needed. But people, don't fall for the brand name HYPE. One does not need a 2,000 + dollar rifle to hit man size targets at 500 yards with iron sights. A worn out sloppy GI gun can do it all day long. I know it can, been there done that. It comes down to training people. That high, over priced, brand name gun that you shoot maybe a few times a year isn't as effective as that 500 dollar one you shoot every other weekend (or more if possible). Spend your money on ammo and training. In the end, you will happier, and a far better shooter. One last thing...THE POWER OF THE PEOPLE IS STRONGER THAN THE PEOPLE IN POWER 🇺🇲 🏴☠️

The lighter you go with the reciprocating mass, the more sensitive everything becomes. It will become picky about ammo changes and fouling. Also, you'll most likely need to go with a lower power recoil spring, in addition to adjustable gas, to get everything running right
I really really, I mean REALLY wish JP produced a titanium VMOS carrier. I find that I LOVE the combination of low mass carrier and high mass buffer. Just soooo smooth and reliable it's amazing, the buffer mass has so much dead blow effect with the very low mass carrier that there's no impacting. Can't do that really though with any JP carriers, only the aluminum is light enough but it's not durable. So I run titanium carriers with a JP-SCS all tungsten. I think adding two more tungsten rings would just make it better. FWIW I don't do the race gun thing, I do this with my self defense ARs. I found that the lighter mass is actually more reliable.
What does "dead blow effect" mean? I was thinking about building something where everything in the operating system is as light as possible, so the least amount of gas is needed, with an adj. gas block.
@@bullheadedgideon1673 You've never used a dead blow hammer? Have you shook a buffer? Or seen that the weights on the SCS slide a bit and impact on rubber? Because the weight is decoupled from the carrier some it can move a bit independently. Think about the series of things that happens while the action is closing. The spring is pushing the carrier forward accelerating the carrier, but the spring isn't pushing the weights forward, so like ball on the floor of an accelerating car they slide back. Then the bolt starts to strip a round off the mag, this slows the carrier, so the weights slide forward, pushing on the rubber giving it a shove. Then there's a moment where the cartridge is rather loose, the carrier is accelerated by the spring again weights slide back again. Now the action must close, the extractor has to pop over the case rim and the bolt has to rotate. So again the carrier slows, and the weights slide forward giving an extra shove when it's needed most. Next the carrier impacts the barrel extension coming to an abrupt stop. Enough that it wants to bounce back some. There the weights push on the rubber, keeping the carrier pinned in place. I too want as little gas as possible, this brings a whole pile of benefits. I run a carrier that's only 3.9oz. which again brings many benefits. But I find it cycles much more smoothly and reliably with a good chunk of buffer mass.
How long does the rubber orings last in the variable mass carrier before having to replace them also if in a competition and one or all of the orings break off would you still be able to run it without the orings ? Thanks
2a armarment lightweight ajustable bcg I think they make a even lighter one out of titanium now is the titties rn for light weight bcgs pair it with JPs silent capture h2 system for mine at least shoots super smooth and is very reliable. yhm turbo k can 11.5 sig barrel
I've always heard adj. gas blocks are a better choice vs adj. BCGs due to 1) BCG gunking up quicker since the gasses are flowing thru it, & 2) taking more gas away from behind the projectile. Any truth to this, or just "wives tales?"
I wish you guys would do this same video for the AR10. I have the silent Capture Spring and JP variable mass BCG with high pressure bolt. My rifle runs but I feel like it is over gassed.
FWIW I have the large frame VMOS, IMO it's just plain too heavy even at it's lightest. Neat setup and if I build a 8.6 Blackout it might be a good fit, but for my 308, nahh I went titanium.
1st queation I'm running a H3 buffer on my .50 beowulf with a standard carbine spring, I'm getting carbon burns 1/2 way down the brass. It's changes as more rounds are used and the weapon get hot, but it still is there. What to do? 2nd my 300 blackout 16" carbine rifle ejects the brass back @ 5 o'clock or over my shoulder stock gas block. I've tried adj buffer weights down to 2.4 oz with no luck while using 220grain subsonic rounds. At this point all I can use is 300- 110 grain.
JP Rifles seems to be on the leading edge of tech. I wonder what your thoughts are on a couple of innovations that showed up a while back, then faded. Have you seen the Sharps Rifle BC? It has chamfered lugs (for running dirty.) And the material is a different hardness (tool steel?). Also, I saw a bolt carrier that was "unibody" with the gas key forged into the body of the carrier. One piece, no screws needed to hold the key. Why wouldn't JP Rifles incorporate either of these product enhancements?
I'm a BIG fan of the Sharps bolt and those chamfered lugs. I don't use their carriers but that bolt really solved the fouling issues with my suppressed setups.
I only run JP bolts and LMT eBolts in my carriers. I really wanted a complete JP Bcg but it seems like they stopped making the fmos full auto capable. Not that I have a machine gun but I do run suppressors and the extra weight helps, and I hate the look of a neutered Bcg..
Does the variable mass carrier work with a law tactical folder? I ordered the SCS h2 for the law folder and would consider the vmc if it is compatible.

I'm a pure recreational shooter looking for optimal reliability, just set it and forget it as my ammunition will never change. I'm leaning towards your silent capture spring and full mass bcg. What are your thoughts and part numbers?
You guys gotta drop the prices on receivers. Just too crazy $$ for 95% of shooters to start builds…the adac lower is 50% more from you guys than Radian…plus no pins installed….or raptor safety. Gotta try to sell these while you can guys…
Granted, JP rifles is not one of the more affordable rifles for the newbie. However, they are among the best, leading edge technology. That foray into the elite has it’s cost. As other manufacturers adopt similar technology, the cost will come down. Until then, JP kicks ass

FN, LWRCI, Knights Armament, LMT, HK all have military contracts as well. Don’t limit yourself to an outdated design and company who refuses to innovate. LMT and LWRCI have full ambidextrous lowers, HK, Knights, LWRCI and FN have cold hammer forged barrels making them last longer too. Colt is so 1990-2010. They work but damn they need to innovate and add some features.

You can most certainly not run a retaining pin with a normal spring and buffer. No need for an expensive aftermarket recoil system to not use one. Plus, your SCS system is NOT optimized for the A5 tube.

Wouldnt a lower power(weaker) spring be worse when taking weight from bcg? I thought a stronger spring slows down the bolt?

Their full mass carrier is effectively the same thing as the LMT full auto. Identify your needs and purchase accordingly.

1 piece normally for piston guns not DI, could be why JP doesn’t have a mono body carrier
