I just realized that the fact that Marquesas was thrown together so fast could be why a lot of challenges took place ten feet away from tribal council.
Ah, good point. It always stood out to me in the past when watching Marquesas that you could see tribal council in the background of most challenges, can only think of a couple other seasons where challenges took place near tribal council... That would simplify things to mostly be filming in the same general area.

Survivor The Australian Outback was bigger than Friends! The ratings were through the roof for that season! and Season 4 was probably in pre-production at that time.
I seem to remember that Game Changers was originally going to have a different theme before Natalie Anderson had to drop out. I think it may have been winners vs. all-stars vs. second chance? Also, I think that season 36 (Ghost Island) was originally going to be either an all-stars or fans vs. favorites season. And I know that you mentioned that there were "others" who were in the running for Micronesia before it was switched to fans vs. favorites, but I should point out that supposedly Janu (for some reason) was in the running for it.
Random fact: to expand on the cut all-stars cast members, who were switched with fans, Jenny Guzon-Bae from Cook Islands said she was interviewed and cast for Micronesia, but cut at the last minute (source: MySpace - I kid you not!). I think the net was wide that season and every former contestant had been called back and ultimately the producers went with whomever they already factored into their plans.
Especially considering the number of returnee options, I LOVE the idea of season 30 especially considering the disaster that we got and would not mind seeing it again!!
Yeah, Survivor: Jordan was supposed to be season 4, and Survivor: Marquesas was supposed to be season 5. Survivor: Americans vs. Canadians ultimately got dropped because casting didn't feel like their pool of potential Canadian players was decent enough yet -- so that theme could still happen at some point.

I visited Rapid City that summer because I was so sick of sitting around staring at the wall and it was the only place I could reach where a normal vacation was possible. I visited the unfortunately named Custer State Park and thought, You could definitely play Survivor here.
Hawaii would have been perfect for back-to-back seasons during COVID. No tourists, and even the main beaches were bare enough for Indigenous Hawaiians and locals to enjoy without the hassle of crowds.

Hence going in, "All or Nothing."
I once simulated a season using my own methods with made up advantages called Sabotage or Anti Advantages. This was based off of Jamal's "Legacy Advantage" given to Dean, but with one small twist that both Dean and Jamal would have known about when given (thus forcing Dean to somewhat trust Jamal but also keep it private), an Anti-Legacy Advantage would have been given to Dean by Jamal (probably in secret). When played at 9 or 6, Dean plays it but it gets played on Jamal. This means that if Dean gets voted out, the advantage then doesn't exist any more (or Jamal has to give it to someone else). The only exception, is that Dean has to play it at 6 if it still exists. Idols also had a shot clock of 3 rounds, which made blindsides a lot more challenging. In real life, this would also result in almost all public knowledge idols, resulting in no Knowledge is Power (this was done after 39, but before 41).
Considering Survivor Arabia, it's a bit of a shame because Jordan is perhaps the most peaceful nation in the area, well the most peaceful Muslim nation at that. But those were turbulent times throughout the area.
A little partial, but I would've like to see Canada vs. US. I also would've liked to see another season like Palau, with no merge, and hopefully with a little less domination. Who knows, maybe it would be interesting to see what would happen if it was still tribal warfare on day 30... or 33... or 36. (If they ever go back to a 39 day season.)
Tonga is beautiful - such a bummer they didn’t get to film there. Am i the only one who would have loved to see survivor 30 as described in this video? As it aired, it was one of my least favorite seasons with my least favorite cast. I think the mess of the idea explained in this video sounds good in a “so bad it’s good” kinda way.
I always hear about how miserable the producers were in Marquesas, and I think, Serves you right for pulling out of such an awesome location and playing into mounting anti-Arab prejudices. Then I look back ashamedly at things I said at the time, and realize . . . I would have felt differently then. 😣
Winners at War should have had every former Winner back. It would not be unwieldy, 3 tribes and only the winning tribe evades tribal. It opens up a lot of possibilities for 50 with this format
survivor Jordan sounded great idea , I’m with changing locations as it had flavors added to the season. Now are all in fiji it lost some of the cultural background
Do you think we'd get a video sometime of your personal favorite and least favorite seasons? Doesn't need to be based on some objective measure, just seasons you personally love or dislike the most
What about the season that was filmed between seasons 1 & 2 that was deemed so irredeemably bad that it was scrapped from airing altogether? Season 1.5. Many believe it was actually Thailand, but Ken the NYC cop wouldn't have been cheered so heavily in the pre-911 world.
Survivor marquesas was supposed to be survivor Arabia before the September 11th attacks & the political situation in the Middle East, survivor Guatemala was supposed to be on the Indian ocean before the 2004 tsunami & earthquake, survivor South Pacific was supposed to be Tonga but was scrapped because of economic reasons
Too bad they seem content to not globe trott anymore. I'd like to see what Jordan would be like now. All stars 2 I think would be better than people think if they got the people that were possible. Keep the half that were Micronesia favorites, then add: Terry, Courtney, Shane, Twila, Earl, Yul, Lydia, Chris Daughtry, Danni, and Michelle (Fiji) This doesn't even account for Ian, Rafe, Judd, Candace, Stephanie, Tom, Katie, and Pei Gee. I think they could've done it.
I'm pretty sure the end prize would have been much crappier, look at Amazing Race Canada, much lower prize money for sure. Survivor Canada would be lucky to award the winner 100K instead of 1 million.
I just realized that the fact that Marquesas was thrown together so fast could be why a lot of challenges took place ten feet away from tribal council.

Considering Survivor Arabia, it's a bit of a shame because Jordan is perhaps the most peaceful nation in the area, well the most peaceful Muslim nation at that. But those were turbulent times throughout the area.
Interesting video pal. If you could place yourself on one survivor season which one would it be?
I'm so glad the coins thing was not permanent.
I'm curious if season 4 was the same contestants that started filming in Jordan?
Ice-themed Survivor would be awesome!
I get the reasons why they don't do it, but I would love a cold weather season of survivor 😂😂😂
ME TOO! MaxPointy made a fan intro for an online game called Survivor: Canadian Arctic (or something like that) a while back.
Me too.
I always hear about how miserable the producers were in Marquesas, and I think, Serves you right for pulling out of such an awesome location and playing into mounting anti-Arab prejudices.
Then I look back ashamedly at things I said at the time, and realize . . . I would have felt differently then. 😣
YES!!!
Ghost Island + EOE + Second chance is so stupid that I kinda need it
Winners at War should have had every former Winner back. It would not be unwieldy, 3 tribes and only the winning tribe evades tribal. It opens up a lot of possibilities for 50 with this format
survivor Jordan sounded great idea , I’m with changing locations as it had flavors added to the season. Now are all in fiji it lost some of the cultural background
the kid nation comment had me hollering
Do you think we'd get a video sometime of your personal favorite and least favorite seasons? Doesn't need to be based on some objective measure, just seasons you personally love or dislike the most
I’d love for there to be a Survivor: Antarctica 🇦🇶
The only way the Survivor Shop could’ve worked is if it had an RE4-style Merchant
the skupin kid nation remark almost made me choke
Would like to see Namibia, Andes mountains, a cold weather destination, banff national park in summer
Fire Tokens NEED to be back
Holy shit it's the place from Indy Last Crusade, just watched it literally yesterday
However, CBS was able to shoot a reality show in Jordan for Amazing Race’s 34th season.
20 years later
The kid nation reference 🤣
If they decide to travel again, would be super interesting to switch it up completely and do an alaska location, like right in the tundra 😅
didnt guatemala also originally have icons Wanda and Jonathan
Yes but according to Wanda. They were meant to be on Guatemala. But production decidevto change it to Bobby Jon and Stephanie.
They should do Survivor: Arabia eventually
I wish that Survivor change locations as they used to. What about India, Egypt or Morocco?
I believe Europe is the only continent (not counting Antarctica) they haven't visited. Surely there's some Greek island they could use?
@@aperson22222It would be cheaper since Greek is not in the best economy. Greek mythology could serve as a theme.
Keep the half that were Micronesia favorites, then add: Terry, Courtney, Shane, Twila, Earl, Yul, Lydia, Chris Daughtry, Danni, and Michelle (Fiji)
This doesn't even account for Ian, Rafe, Judd, Candace, Stephanie, Tom, Katie, and Pei Gee.
I think they could've done it.
I desperately want them to leave Fiji! Canada vs. US would have been hilarious and FULL of more stereotypes than Cook Islands.
Wasn’t 34 originally supposed to be second chance 2?
Why doesn't Canada just start their own series? Other countries have.
I'm pretty sure the end prize would have been much crappier, look at Amazing Race Canada, much lower prize money for sure. Survivor Canada would be lucky to award the winner 100K instead of 1 million.
Also probably would only film inside of Canada too, not international travel.
I know Quebec has their own version, but sadly not Canada as a whole.
