Two Tone Painted Furniture

- Hi creative friends! Today I’m sharing how to update a piece of furniture using a two-tone paint finish. I bought this dresser off Facebook Marketplace over a year ago. The ad said it was in good shape but unfortunately it wasn’t. It sat in my garage until Nick repaired the top and drawers. Then it came down to my studio for more cosmetic fix-ups!
I hope it’s inspired you and given you some new ideas for your projects.
Happy furniture painting friends!

You are so talented, but what I love the most about your work is that your aesthetic matches mine! So, everything you do pleases me! I love the colors, the line, the hardware! You transformed this abused dresser to a slic, elegant, beautiful one. Thanks so much for sharing

Thanks Jennifer! Had to make those adorable scallops stand out. ;)
Beautiful!!!
Thank you Anne!!
And furthermore, because there's a debate around painting or restoring a piece, I think there was no better candidate for paint than this dresser!
I agree...lol. This needed a little TLC
Very pretty
Thanks Angela!
I absolutely love this piece! Please do more of this two tone look, other than natural Tops with painted bottom, I don't see many people doing this on YT! Nice work!
So glad you like it and I always appreciate video ideas... so thank you! I'll keep my eyes peeled for another piece this will look good on. :)
This is gorgeous! I love the two tone colors you chose. Thanks for the tip about removing the painter's tape!

Thank you so much!
Hi............ can you recommend a tape or procedure for staining lines on bare wood?
Hello
My dresser drawers are not flat. How do I tape the drawers and the dresser so the lines are straight and clean?
I wanted to ask you, Denise, why you chose the middle of the second drawer for your two-tone. It seems like above or below the drawer makes more sense. Your thoughts, please.
Then that would be the same ol' same ol' staying inside the lines, not stepping out of the box approach. Good art does not need to make sense. This is so unique and beautiful! 🤩
Hi Randy! I really wanted to highlight the cute scallop details on this dresser and use the rules of thirds. I think it brings the eye up to focus on the details and looks a little more modern than if I had painted the whole top drawer. :)
I've not used the paint that you're using, but wouldnt primer also allow for a smoother application as well as less actual color? I just put together a headboard and nightstand. I used paint to make them a combo. Both started out with wood finish. I sanded the top of the nightstand because the clear was rather thick and streaked; the nightstand was also in a very dark stain, so I primed it with two coats and sanded in between. The headboard had zero stain, only a light coat of clear; I did light sanding to improve adhesion. The raw, unprimed headboard took so much more paint, from the start, than the primed end table / nightstand. To be clear, I'm aware that the headboard has much more surface area, but from the start, it took more paint than did the ngithstand.
Yes, primer (or an extra coat of primer under a 2 in 1 paint) does everything your saying. :)
Beautiful!
Thank you!
