Hi Jenni! The dresser turned out great! I have been refinishing for 35 years now but I still learn something from you with each video. Thank you and please keep them coming.
I’ve watched this video twice in the past 2 days because I’m going the try the same technique. I too have the same problem with my old hardware that left a lighter shadow than the rest of the drawer fronts. I’ve found all kinds of videos if the shadow was dark but not light. Can I bleach the whole drawer front and have the drawer & shadow the same?
New sub here and definitely new to this kind of world and I have started to do it as a hobby loving it. From most of your videos you seem not to finish inside the drawers, is there any reason why? Especially on really old dressers I find it a bit odd that the outside is new and sparkly but inside is old and drab. Of course being a newbie I recently painted inside and outside the drawers and what a nightmare they were sticking badly so had to sand them. Any tips or tricks on that? Also how about lining them with wallpaper? Sorry for the essay hehe... Ps I love your work all the way from UK x
Thank you for subscribing! This is a very good question! Most pieces I work on, the drawers are okay. I usually just clean them with an all purpose cleaner or Murphys Oil Soap (a wood floor cleaner). That will freshen them up and dust them. If they are stained, I've papered the bottom of the drawers with wallpaper, wrapping paper or contact paper to make a nice finish. If they are really stained, or smelly, sometimes paint is the best option. Painting the inside of drawers is a real pain, so I do not do this often. I hope that helps, so glad you have found a new hobby - I love it!
Yes, they did. I added a bit more stain over the spots where it was visible and feathered it out to blend it. I felt like once I added the topcoat it really didn't show through any more.
Bonnie Gauthier Hi Jenni, Keep up the great videos they are fantastic. I am having alot of trouble locating General Finishes products. I have tried all the big box stores like Lowes and Home depot but no luck. Where do you find it?
Thank you! General Finishes is available at local retailers, you can check here: generalfinishes.com/where-to-buy or online - here's my Amazon link: amzn.to/2W6c1p8
Love this. I notice you don’t normally prime. Why is that? I’m having a hard time using gel stain and getting it to cover. Perhaps I should have used milk paint.
I only prime if I am going to paint a piece really light or white. I don't find it necessary to help the paint stick, so it's just a step that isn't usually needed. A trick for your gel stain. Apply one coat of topcoat to the stain piece. Let dry. Then apply another coat of gel stain. This helps even out the color. Once you are happy, you can topcoat as many times as you feel is necessary. Hope that trick works!
why don't you use a small roller for the large flat areas? I am just starting refinishing as a hobby and I noticed that everybody uses a brush but no one has said why.
Hi Daniel, if you use a roller, it covers faster, but can cause some texture to the paint that may not be desired. Even a foam roller can leave some texture. If you use a roller, be sure to go lightly over the areas with a good brush to even out the texture.

Did the prior hardware imprints finally cover? They were still visible upon the application of the first coat of stain
Yes, they did. I added a bit more stain over the spots where it was visible and feathered it out to blend it. I felt like once I added the topcoat it really didn't show through any more.
