Our founder, Lek Chailert, received numerous deeply concerning messages from Thai elephant lovers containing a video of an elephant named NamThip, who was exploited for begging on the streets. In the video, her trunk was shaking, and she was extremely emaciated. Urgent help was needed, prompting us to immediately rally and intervene to rescue her.
At just 13 years old, NamThip had been exploited for years, forced into street begging and performing demeaning tricks to generate money for her owner. According to her former owner, she was separated from her mother at just 8 months old and never had the opportunity to bond with her own kind.
Following negotiations with her former owner, we successfully liberated NamThip and brought her to her sanctuary home at Elephant Nature Park.
