First Autocross...Stock GBody, Rookie Driver

- There are three 'First's' in this video.
I try my hand at SCCA AutoCross, or Solo racing as they call it now.
I use a nearly unimproved 34yr old G-Body ElCamino and get a baseline for how bad the handling is.
I use the new enclosed trailer for the first time.
From here we will start to make handling improvements to the car and trying them out each time.
As a side note, this entire video was shot on a go-pro 7 with no additional mic, and my Samsung S7 Phone.

I found this video today and I noticed your local to me in ohio. I hope to see you this summer at killkare. I also have a g body that I plan on doing a little of autocrossing. It is a 1984 cutlass.388 stroker, coilovers, front and rear tubular control arms doing a 9in rear axle and the kicker Is have the same wheels as you 18x10 18x9 us mags
I'd love to say I am making progress, but it is slow. I keep introducing 'problems' that I have to overcome before I can go out for the second time. Yes. Almost 2 years later and I haven't been out again. The next upgrade I want to test is sway bars. They are installed. So are the gauges, new carb, new distributor, custom cable brackets, soon to be new water pump, and what the heck an aluminum rad with electric fans. The latest...went to service the trans (oil change) and found I might have goofed the clutch linings....all because I wanted gauges and not idot lights. I focus on it being a project for fun. I've learned a ton. See you out there in 2021. ~P

O.P.G. sells a brand new quick ratio steering box for G-bodies. I use El Camino diesel front springs in the front because they're just as good as performance springs but cheaper. I have a Monte SS 2.25 in. front sway bar and frame stiffeners also. I think a ratchet style floor shifter would help lock in 2nd. Good luck.
I would have liked to see you do the course in your Mustang or Golf Cart... I would have been as anxious running the course as you were, probably more. I so wish I lived near you so I could join in on all the activity.

For your steering,go with the G body Jeep steering shaft upgrade and a G body Monte Carlo SS quick ratio steering box. Both can be done for under $200 and you'll get tighter,more responsive steering.
Well that got my attention. I am not relishing 1200$ for a rack conversion. Can you steer (woops...ha) me to more info or details? I'm. Googling now.

Yes. Various car classes. The elco runs in CAM - Classic American Muscle
The key is lightness..remove the radio from the dash and you lap times will drop by 5 seconds... :-)
I'm gonna keep the radio for a while. I have some manufacturer stickers worth about 50hp I'll use first ;)

I have a 80 on bmr level 1 suspension. I want to do exactly what you doing with your elco.
I give the tire specs in the intro video but I don't remember the wheel offsets.
