CNC Router on a small 2.5D project

In my family, we often give 'proxy' gifts when the actual gift is too large, heavy or difficult to wrap. In this case, I made a proxy gift for a new paddle that my wife wanted for her sailboat.
I'm sure you can guess how old the footage is. For those that pay close attention, comment below the difference you see in the machine and the shop in the background. Lots of changes have happened to both over the years.

A few questions about your machine, why did you mount the x axis guide rails horizontal (one behind) rather than vertical (one above the other)
