this is awesome, literally; this is the kind of audio sequencer I've been looking for in ipad music production. It's awesome to showcase, thank you so much!
This is a good start. It kind of reminds me of Gadget but you can load up anything you want. Would be neat to see an MPE lane added to the edit. Global parameters could be fun in the future. Thats one thing I like on my Model:Cycles, where you can mash up everything and then have a button that goes back to the last quick save. It makes it very performative or you end up finding something new.
Thanks Jakob! This video should be on the app page if that was possible. The idea is brilliant and so is the starting point. I will definitely get in on the ground floor and show my support. An app for the people updated by the people via a talented dev. 👍
I buy all the apps you recommended… I.ve never been disappointed and this application is really a good choice and must have in your I pad ! Thanks Jacob good job 👍
Apparently, Apple saw my comment about Sand not being in the U.S. App Store, as it's there now. Thanks, Apple, and thanks for the tutorial, Jakob! Great app, Matteo! 😊
When Matteo contacted me about SAND about a months ago, I knew it was going to be special. Can’t wait to see where this one goes but there’s huge potential and the roadmap is looking good. Tack för titten! 🤍
Guys sand can host koala so u can use samples from it. Empty slot plays current sequence so it can make lots of noise :) in the bottom rack you can add all koala fix reverb talkbox etc…
I’ve been looking for a sequencer for the last couple of months (I’m new to making music and to using the IOS platform) but this looks and feels like a step in the right direction- many thanks again Jakob for your always informative instructions.
Needs more quantizing options and more choices for time signatures, but it's not a bad idea for a super fast and easy recording option. Definitely simpler to use than AUM, which I find an absolute nightmare to use (it's like trying to make music while taking a math test).
@Jakob Haq You didn’t cover if Sand has the ability to use different combinations of composed parts! This is one the MOST fun gifts of clip-based sequencing.
INCREDIBLE ‼️🎉👍🤩 I saw this in the App Store yesterday. After this SUPER FANTASTIC Docutorial, this will be my next new S A N D 🎵⚡️💥 Thank you, Matteo, for creating such an amazing app. Thank you, Jakob for such a thorough and informative Docutorial ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🤩😊‼️
Been on the beta for a few weeks was like where the hell did this one just drop from when it appeared. It’s going to be a special app once a few more features are added. Love how simple it is to get things going great creativity builder. Oh and by the way the Korg Bluetooth controllers were designed for this. Looking forward to see this one grow.
I like it just the way it is Jacob! It’s simple yet powerful! I can see this being extremely useful with my modular background before I start developing a game plan! Peace
I don’t think people on UA-cam are actively ignoring the updates. It’s just how the app-game is. Something gets released and then it’s in the loop for a week and then interest dissipates. I’m keeping close eye on development for this one though. But I’ll hold of with another video until more time has passed and more updates has come out.
Brilliant. I like it the way it is. Thank you for guiding me in the right direction. But I can't seem to control the controls/effects I added at the bottom. I can't see the effect/s show in the Controllers, New Mapping menu. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
Thank you. Sorry, but I actually meant I couldn't move the controls I put on each track with my Midi controller. But I've sussed it out now. So for anyone else's benefit, you have to go into 'Controllers, New Mapping', then 'Change Param 1' and turn a knob on your controller. Seems like you can control 8 parameters for each track. Not bad...
quite new to plugins but just watching this, felt so intrigue and excited about its flow. Simple and came make music making fun! Though I wanna ask I have a HX stomp and an OPZ, I wonder if this app can connect with these devices! So light guitar plus effects to HX Stomp USB > to iPad and record it per clip Likewise with OPZ as midi but also audio.
No. When it comes to controlling synths and effects, that can only be done via the quick controls. The MIDI mapping is only for SAND controls right now. However I’ve talked with Matteo and he understand users would want to be able to map controllers to anything, so that will change in the future. Keep an eye on my channel, I will make an update about this later on.
Wow. This one looks very promiseing. Lots of stuff has beeb happening with IOS sequencers over the last couple of years. Drambos clip launcher is a beast but I will very likely look in to this one 😊
This is great for creating ideas. But, I think I’ll wait for a few updates so more concepts are implemented. For instance, I’m glad that one of the ideas (for the future) is the song mode. I’ll wait when that comes out.
Sand looks like a host with an intuitive workflow. Easy recording, easy controls, lots of MIDI capabilities and I can go on and on. It’s great that the developer listens to suggested features from users. I wish that any dev would do this! I see there’s already a roadmap for additional features but I still have some questions. Is it possible to open an empty clip and draw notes in the sequencer? What will exactly be exported if you’re printing a recording? Is it everything that’s added in a vertical way or horizontal way? Are the added features that will come in the nearby future in app purchases or is it free by simply updating Sand? I hope you can answer my questions, Jakob. It looks like Sand is the next big thing for iPad music production and I will happily support it by buying the app! Respect for the developer. He nailed it. And at last, great and useful video, Jakob! Thanks!
Has anyone been using this for a while, how they liking it? Can’t seem to find too many videos or stuff online about people using SAND. Wondering wether i should get this for simple sequencing needs, i like the look of the UI in Sand and looks like it would be quite immediate. Or wether i should take the plunge and invest a bit more time and money into DRAMBO?
Hello Jacob, thanks for this great explanation. Seems like that Vatanator Pro looks also very simillar to Sand. And it is also a growing path there, for new Features. What do you think😉
There is no manual yet. Someone did suggest it over at the roadmap. You have to make a note first. After you’ve made a note in the piano roll, tap down at the end of the note and drag sideways. You drag the length you want and let go.
Wow what a great discovery, thank you @Jakob Haq for letting us know about it. It's a bit like a mix of AUM (but for MIDI) and LK (but with auv3 hosting). Like if they had a baby 🐥 Definitely I see already a few things that could be added : - Clip editor with minimal tools like trim, normalize, reverse, pitch, time stretch - Then ability to use the sampled material as an audio based clip - If he adds song mode with automation and full length audio track recording, well we're starting already to see a very powerful DAW 😉 BTW, really like the ability to create control mappings for each track (and soon global). I will try the app, I'm pretty sure we can already make some interesting with it.
I’ve noticed my Korg stuff isn’t showing up, only the iElectribe that I’ve got. All my other Gadget IAP’s don’t work. Have u tried loading them up. Gadget in there would be ideal.
Bought the app, but it doesn't seem to supports using external hardware synths. It seems to be on the feature request list. Hopefully it will come one day.
The only forum I know of is that canny site with the roadmap. But that might change in the future. If the project gets loads of support, Matteo might have to start a proper forum.
No, SAND is not a plugin and has not designed to be loaded into other hosts. It does not have MIDI out either right now. However there has been suggestions, by other users over at the roadmap, that MIDI output gets implemented. But you won’t be able to load SAND into AUM or Cubase. It is itself an AUv3 host and was designed to be a music making platform.
This is a great work but comes a little bit late. New Drambo's clip launcher is KILLER. I feel Drambo is now the top 1 DAW in iOS (Ableton live style i mean, non linear)
As a non-musician that's only been into IOS music making for a half a year, this looks really great. The one feature I can't immediately see is a way to import midi clips and just saw it's a suggestion on their website, so that's good. For it's price I'll give it a go. Thanks Jakob. As a temp workaround for separate tracks, couldn't you solo one track, export that then repeat?
Turns out that I found a bug. The stem export works if you export directly to the files app. I logged a bug report over at the roadmap place roadmap.getsand.app/bug-reports/p/multistem-audio-export-is-bugged
No, SAND is not a plugin and has not designed to be loaded into other hosts. As o show in the video, It is an AUv3 host itself and is designed to be a music making platform. You load instruments and fix into SAND. It’s not a DAW right now but it will be. It’s hinted in this section 20:45
Sorry ahead of time for the second comment but on the other end of NEW sequencer spectrum have you checked out “Strokes - Midi Sequencer” by John Howel? Most definitely worth a look.
Interesting video, thanks. Sand looks like a great idea - lovely uncluttered UI. Sadly, at the moment it isn’t close to finished, not even an alpha. Thankfully, Apple agreed and refunded my £10.
Good for you to highlight this app Jakob.. lots of potential for sure.. I like that we can vote for features and that the dev is open to suggestions.. I hope it becomes a staple app on iOS.. thanks for the Docutorial.. always enjoy the chats with the creators..
Oh my God Jakob why are you doing this to us! To many good solutions. I already have GarageBand, Cubasis, MIDIRecorder, Drambo and other apps that I can record & flip around with midi & audio… then you show us this. And even though we have all those goodies you show us something like this which feels a lot like what would happen if AUM, Fugue Machine & Note had a baby. I know that different sequencers And recording apps bring out completely Different music from you when song Writing but when, I say when will it end? Probably with this app right here because the developer is open to suggestions and a healthy growth schedule. Argh! Oh well, Just take my Black Friday money & help me create more dope music in an elegant, easy to understand fashion.
Hi Jakob, if this app has a “Step Mode chord recording settings” and can record at least 65 bars in one track, then I guess this could be what I was waiting for for a long time. I’m not very proficient with the keys and the only thing that’s limiting my recording is the non-stop pounding of the metronome while trying to figure out the chords. If you could make another tutorial with regards to these, then it would help a lot of recording enthusiasts still trying to beat the metronome. The app looks simple and easy to use. Thanks so much.
am i the only one who got mad at trying to change note lengths? only rarely i seem to get the right spot to grab the end of a note so i can move its end to change length. Moving is similarly hard, even though a bit easier. This is a basic functionality to me, so I did not find it very appealing to pay 8€ …. i‘d rather like to have it as a subscription, but for now at a lower price.
No you’re not alone. If you check the roadmap you’ll see that others are talking about note editing and that the dev is working on it. Link to roadmap in pinned comment.
@@JakobHaq there it says it's completed. But when I tried it 2 days ago it still was barely useable... I might try it again in a while... for the time being I keep working with AUM and LK.
Random question, any info how to emulate or so the drums sounds in the track: ua-cam.com/video/oxoqm05c7yA/v-deo.html I'd love to know how to approach that. I do not want to copy but feel that on IOS it is not easy to get unique drum sounds, e.g. procedurally, maybe I have limited knowledge, would welcome any advise. Is that possible eg in hammerhead? Thanks.
It’s hard to hear exactly what the drums are really because there’s so much processing done on the overall track plus there’s heavy side chain compressor pump to. It shouldn’t be harder to get unique sounds on iOS than it would be on any other platform really. The best route to go about it is to get more knowledge about sound design and synthesis. You could make stuff like those drums with a drum Synthesizer like FAC Alteza, Hammerhead, DM2 and many other synths. I highly suggest learning to design some sound of your own. There are loads of really good tutorials on UA-cam. Don’t shy away from watching tutorials in where they use software or hardware that you don’t have access too. Sometimes you’ll just learn some good basic practices. It’s probably not the answer you were looking for but … it’s all I have. 😅
Any Australians who have bought this App please leave a rating on the app store. An idiot gave it a 1 star rating. Must be heartbreaking for the developer.
I think it was a mistake releasing this so early. Feels like it's kind of sunk. I hope content creators will re-review it when Sand has more features implemented

Wow. Been wanting AUV3 for gadget for years. This is a great alternative
Watched first 60 seconds, paused and went to App Store to purchase… this is gonna be huge ❤
this looks like the app ive been waiting for
Sitting around waiting for Gadget to add AUv3 support, and just discovered this. Instant purchase.
it looks already amazing - its a bit like aum but with clips - I LOVE IT - I WANT IT
The intention of not making it bloated is so great. I don’t use Drambo because it is too much
How about a 4x4 drum pad controller interface with macro knobs and a X-y touch pad?
this is really great. it's only needs a built in sampler and audio looper to make it perfect. also nice video as always Jakob

This is one the MOST fun gifts of clip-based sequencing.
I didn’t cover it because SAND doesen’t have that feature. But if it gets suggested over at the roadmap then it might get it. 😉😘
yeah that's great. i like feeling actual knobs, sliders and keys... too bad it costs way more to do it that way but it's worth it to me.
Even I can grasp this thing! And it will actually feel like I’m doing something at the same time, Yes! 😂
Yep, went and grabbed it after watching. Does not disappoint and is very cool indeed. Stoked about the future of this application.
Any plans to re-review this now it’s had several updates?
This can potentially become the iOS Ableton Live we’ve been waiting for. I’m gonna jump in and join the support squad. I’ll purchase the app.
Inspiring interview, great job Matteo!
Thanks bro!
This has a lot of potentual
Great explanation and it sounds like it has a lot of potential. I guess it's similar in some ways to multiple instances of Atom 2 in AUM? Bought!
Do you have to buy Sand to load a synth in it? I'm trying it but it doesn't recognize any installed software..?
Very elegant. Can it work alongside AUM? I mean can I mix the output from this in AUM with other sources?

Interesting video, thanks. Sand looks like a great idea - lovely uncluttered UI. Sadly, at the moment it isn’t close to finished, not even an alpha. Thankfully, Apple agreed and refunded my £10.
Good for you to highlight this app Jakob.. lots of potential for sure.. I like that we can vote for features and that the dev is open to suggestions.. I hope it becomes a staple app on iOS.. thanks for the Docutorial.. always enjoy the chats with the creators..
Thank you so much for the support!
This looks interesting, and simple enough for even me to understand. Now I just need someone to tell me what ‘clip’ means in this context…
Clip is kinda like saying “a loop”. It’s Ableton language. So when they say “clip launcher” it’s like saying loop starter.
I’m … sorry … I think 😅👍💋

Hi Jakob, if this app has a “Step Mode chord recording settings” and can record at least 65 bars in one track, then I guess this could be what I was waiting for for a long time. I’m not very proficient with the keys and the only thing that’s limiting my recording is the non-stop pounding of the metronome while trying to figure out the chords. If you could make another tutorial with regards to these, then it would help a lot of recording enthusiasts still trying to beat the metronome. The app looks simple and easy to use. Thanks so much.
This might be it, yeah.
Sorry but its not ready software. This would be a fun beta, but its not working. Too buggy. This is what Testflight is for.
Things need fixing, a few FX don't want to work with Sand currently.
Dear Jakob: do you drive a Volvo?
I don’t drive at all actually.
am i the only one who got mad at trying to change note lengths? only rarely i seem to get the right spot to grab the end of a note so i can move its end to change length.
@@JakobHaq Wow, thanks for taking the time to reply, will look into your suggestions!
