I’ve been listening to Eric for 30 years. I can’t remember ever hearing a bad note choice. His melodic sensibility is so tasteful.
Trademark live at austin when hes young but i agree totally he is a legend forever
Well - just for variation then, try playing this at half speed and you'll have some idea what Eric Johnson might sound like if quite particularly drunk at around 4 in the morning ...
He Is Definitely on Par With Tommy Emmanuel
as A CGP Certified Guitar Player 8>)
@@kxmrock Always a fan and lucky to see him twice live! Just curious, if you haven't watched the young kid Matteo Mancuso? Here you go - ua-cam.com/video/j8OsuhTDufw/v-deo.html
actually i think there's a live version of cliffs of dover where he hits a wrong note... but then of course completely saves it. But maybe he did it on purpose to make us lesser guitarists feel good
I love those chord melodies....so beautiful!!
Tomo is the best Teacher... yet i see his comments everywhere i watch video... which is great
He's a best teacher around the world but he still have a room for learning..
two of my best guitarists on my list,Mr. Eric Johnson and Mr. Tomo Fujita, Nice :o
Eric’s house looks nice
"you know what I mean...like..." followed by something better than I've ever played, followed by "so that's just D Major.". Master...EJ is the master.
haha, no EJ we don't know what you mean. please explain to us mortals
15 minutes to learn, lifetime to master, right? 😆
You call him eric
I call him master
Even his furniture style choice is tasteful
even with how he dress, never seen this man on a bad outfit
brilliant stuff!
extremely well done lesson
When he's moving around, listen to the lower voice, listen to how he moves the bass line. That's the key to making it all flow together cohesively.
Yea, it is this counterpoint-like voicings. Melody and bass each go independend directions. Think you need to have two brains for improvising like this. Joe Pass did it. And Bach.
That's true. The bass and the highest voices are the most important ones, indeed!
"Mini" Lesson; learn every note on the fretboard. See you next week.
😳
Good luck! I’m trying too
@@batmandeltaforce you can get pretty far without learning theory but eventually it will hold you back. Especially if you ever wan't to jam with people which is the best part about music. Some take pride in being oblivious; these people are foolish. How arrogant of you to think you're smarter than the collective intelligence of your ancestors.
@@batmandeltaforce For a reason that Eric Johnson is where he should be. Tell me where you are in your 54 years as a musician?
StringGene you are delusional if you think anyone is reading that essay mate
@@batmandeltaforce that will get you there.. sort of. Being aware of what intervals you're using, interchange, borrowing from parallel keys, modulation, alterations, etc are going to be a lot more sensible with a full knowledge of note choice. Modes are just patterns and are 1 pixel in the whole landscape of theory.
For the love of all that's righteous, mic this man when he speaks!
Had me at Cliffs of Dover... Please, go on.
Check Manhattan.
this guy is a national treasure
He is a world treasure his music and inspiration has conquered whole world.. his music is the 8th wonders of the world
My friend he is a gift to this universe...
I want him to represent Earth should any event of intergalactic measure takes place. Following Alan Holdsworth and George Benson.
He really is. Not surprisingly, he’s a finer person than artist. How is THAT possible? Lol
Not only one of the greatest musicians, but also a great human being!!!
These lessons are a goldmine, and Eric's genius is almost incomprehensible!
Noel Bohlin probably more willingness to dedicate himself to practicing rather than genius. Simply dedication.
We're so happy for you, noel, that YOU can comprehend it. Lol
If you listened to everything that Eric says all the way up to 02:22 , stopped there with that clear assignment and went off and learned every note on each string.. you would be far better than those that never did and who are still living inside of that "box". Such great words of wisdom, Eric! Thank you. 😉
If someone dislikes this video i don't know what are you thinking
He really knows his way around the guitar and has such a unique style. Living proof that practice and hard work pays off.
It is so impressive, when he’s just ”you know” and plays the most beautiful things you could ever play with that instrument.
I love how this lesson is always relevant. You can’t learn the fretboard well enough! Great way to think about it(adding 1-2 Notes at a time). “Chords are like melodies”. Thx Ej!
You're one of the main reasons I started playing 25 years ago. I cannot begin to express my gratitude.
You can explain all you want & I'd spend years watching your videos yet learn nothing cause I'd be too amazed to understand❤
Always in awe of how pretty all his playing is, clean or overdriven. So melodious.
Good to know Eric’s well stocked up on kitchen roll.
A very real demonstration as to why putting the work in makes a difference.
It takes years to reach a certain level at guitar and then you watch this guy effortlessly play all three tone variation of a major scale in a melody like its nothing. Insane player, beautifull sound
ric I’ve performed and taught guitar since I was a teenager. I’m 55 now. Started guitar after hearing the Hendrix Monterey recording. I was turned on to you by a fellow teacher/player Danny trainer in the phila area in 89, 90. Honestly, you are just a superb, sublime beautiful player. You take the guitar in a non trad jazz way to distant places. More classical Indian/trad Celt. An inspiration.
Wow! Eric Johnson is on YT teaching us! Thanks a lot!
That move at 4:00, wow lol. Gorgeous
I have also been listening to Eric for over 30 years and it never ever gets old. My Favorite musician of all time besides Neil Peart.
Well all that was way above me I didn't learn a damn thaing , but i waatched the whole thing i wias mesmorised, EJ is a great person, lovely human being and an amazing player.
It’s a pretty amazing time in music when a genius will just give you a free freaking lesson! Seriously thankful for your investment in other players.
