Would love to see Vilgefortz melt the Unseen Elder into a smear on the floor too.

He finished off Regis within seconds, Detlaff wouldn’t have much luck.

I always thought it was strange that the Unicorns insisted that Ciri couldn't be held captive anywhere - not even by the super powerful Aen Elle... but then Vilgefortz does exactly that.

It's wild how sick he is and how mad he became in seek for power. The fact he spoke to ciri with such joy of how horrible things he will do is sickening. :D

I kinda hate how powerfull Vilgefortz is. I mean, I saw my share of powerful villains in fantasy, anime, movies, comic books, etc. But all of them, at some point, it doesn't matter how powerful they were, had a difficult moment while facing the protagonist. This guy plays with the protagonist AND his allies, like they were a bunch of little brats who needed a lesson. All the time. He lost by a detail. If he had his eye, I really doubt Geralt would be able to fool him. So, all of this overpower makes me kinda mad with the character! And the way he beats the shit out of Geralt for the first time, will always be in my mind!

It's because he died in the books, and the game ( not cannon) happens after the events in there

Andrzej Sapkowski is writing another book so maybe he'll make the game events canon and pick up from the end....depending on which ending would result in canon

@@marta0929 Well, Geralt also died in the books just 3 months after he'd killed Vilgefortz. It makes absolutely no sense that the games takes place in the 3 days between.

Decent final battle but Vilgefortz was so powerful, yet fooled by a rudimentary medallion-- not impressed with the writing there!

It was because of his eye, it hadn't grown back yet so his depth perception was non-existent and he had no reason to assume Geralt had access to illusion spells either way.

@@theavianlibrary Excellent observation. Not many people are aware that 2 eyes are needed for accurate depth perception. There are 2 other factors as well:-
      2) Vilgefortz was supremely arrogant. Having beaten Geralt twice before, with Yennefer unconscious and Regis dead, he was utterly convinced that Geralt would not stand a chance. The other members of Geralt's party were already dead or dying, with no reinforcements able to come in. Vilgefortz had ensured that Stygga was proof against unwanted portals in or out, even Ciri's ability was nullified. He was only talking to Geralt because he reasoned that it would be easier to control/capture Ciri with Geralt's aid, expecting that Geralt would eventually surrender
Given his extreme skill-at-arms, he is shocked and surprised when Geralt somehow evaded his blows.
      3) It's precisely because the medallion is rudimentary that it succeeded. The medallion's magic was virtually undetectable. After being given the medallion by Fringilla Vigo, Geralt eventually meets with and is aggressively scanned by numerous powerful sorcerors and sorceresses, almost none of whom detect anything about the medallion. Yennefer is slightly suspicious, but Geralt explains to Yennefer that she is just jealous of Fringilla Vigo, who had a brief affair with Geralt when he was in Toussaint (and made this fake medallion for him).
Sapkowski wrote that Vilgefortz scanned Geralt for any magical energy (including enchanted items). Finding none, its implied Vilgefortz was EXTREMELY surprised that the medallion possessed illusion magic, giving Geralt a brief moment's opportunity to kill him while Vilgefortz figured out how Geralt evaded his blows.
The less likely explanation is that Vilgefortz, unlike all the other sorcerors and magi, actually detected that the medallion had magic but was so weak as to be ineffectual against him. Perhaps he reasoned that, if Geralt didn't use it during the Thanedd coup, then it probably wasn't worth any concern.

Even powerful people aren’t powerful 100% of the time. Vilgefortz’s arrogance being his undoing is the entire point. He was so powerful he stopped taking Geralt seriously, and when you stop taking deadly enemies seriously, you die.

Why? Vilgefortz wouldnt expect something like an illusion by Geralt or his medallion.
It makes sense he was caught off guard by it.

Why do you keep showing Regis' demise even when it has the least bearing on what you are saying? Confusing.
