Detlaff needed to die. He was too cute to survive. As for Orianna maybe her higher vampire ability was to change shape and mimic the powers of other vampires (since each higher vampire has their own ability that makes them an individual)

Just discovered this lorethrough and it’s exactly what I was looking for! Recently replayed Witcher 2 and noticed waaaay more references to the books than I remembered, and my memory is somewhat hazy on them, so this is a really cool watch!

Man, fck Triss. Watching this reignited my hate towards her. Yen is and always was the only one who cared for Geralt and Ciri.

I always thought it was strange that the Unicorns insisted that Ciri couldn't be held captive anywhere - not even by the super powerful Aen Elle... but then Vilgefortz does exactly that.

The role that "equilibrium" plays in the Witcher world is interesting. Witchers claim that monster brought by the conjunction have thrown the world into disequilibrium which the Witchers need to restore... but the conjunction brought humans as well, and they and their genocidal tendencies seem far more hostile to equilibrium than any monster species. If anything, one could argue that the witchers are pretty much assets (Jason Bourne style) within a human supremacy campaign - a campaign from which Geralt is uniquely able to gain some critical distance to appreciate. Or we have Dorregaray saying that monsters are part of the equilibrium. But how does he know that Witchers aren't part of the equilibrating process? Maybe getting rid of Witcher would then lead to a disequilibrium as the monster population explodes, etc.

I've never been very sure who killed Esterad. I suspect it was the Lodge since he was always resisting Sila's influence. But it's also unclear to me who the assassins were there to kill? He refused to leave his wife, but were they after his wife? If he would have ran away, would he have actually saved his wife?

I'm not sure that the interests of Emhyr and those of the trade corporation are as aligned as you suggest.

I struggle with this ending. The whole story was Geralt trying to hunt down Foltest's real killers so he can clear his name. He then finds out that Iorveth and Letho were the ones who planned it. So all Geralt ends up doing is becoming buddies with Foltest's killers rather than "hunting them down" in any meaningful way. The entire Iorveth path is literally becoming besties with the guy your supposed to be hunting.

I spend a lot of time working abroad, and these videos really help pass the time. I never played The Witcher 2 either, so these really add to the quality of my Witcher 3 gameplay. Thank you so much.

It's unclear how powerful Cynthia is supposed to be. On the one hand, she is able to artifact compress Triss. The books make this seem pretty damn impressive (Francesca doing it to Yen seemed far from trivial). But in the games, Assire can do it (but she seems pretty powerful in the books too since she isn't intimidated by Sila) and even Triss can do it in the 3rd game. Triss is NOT that powerful of a mage. On the other hand, Cynthia is said to be an apprentice of Vanhemar, who didn't seem all that powerful. It's also telling that Philipa wasn't able to detect anything powerful about Cynthia when the latter (presumably) cast spells in her presence. My guess - Cynthia is slightly less powerful than Triss and the games just made artifact compression far easier than I think it's supposed to be.

I didn't think 3 Jackdaw was the father of the dragon egg? I thought he was just a golden dragon that answered the mother's call for help when she got poisoned. This doesn't rule out him beign the father, but I don't remember it even being explicitly stated.

So... Foltest was "tyranny and its transgressions"? Saskia's explanation for why she fought with the LaValettes is pretty lacking. To be honest, I have a hard time understanding why so many parties were at play in the LaValette skirmish. Triss pushed Folest to treat with Nilfgaard even though that is literally how Nilfgaard invaded the North last time. Saskia is involved, for some reason. Nilfgaard is just stirring shit, I guess, but what was their pretext? I assume Triss was working for the Lodge to some extent?
