How a €2.5m Budget Took Eintracht Frankfurt from a Relegation Battle to Cup Champions & Beyond
In 2016, Eintracht Frankfurt were fighting for their lives in the Bundesliga, and if it wasn’t for hiring Niko Kovac as their manager, they may well have been relegated by Nurnberg. From there, their smart transfer policy took them from the bottom of the Bundesliga, to a DFB Pokal defeat of Bayern Munich (2018), and a deep run in the Europa League where they lost vs Chelsea via a shootout. Players like Luka Jovic, Sébastian Haller, Ante Rebic and more have made Eintracht Frankfurt the new hotbed of talent in Europe as of the 2018-19 season.

A big thank you to Dave D. for answering some of my questions during the research phase of this video!🇩🇪🤝🇨🇦
Great video, loved to help you🇩🇪🇨🇦
Frankfurt are doing what Gladbach did just a view years ago and maybe Freiburg will be the next club with a similar development?
Btw 2:51 the next time you can also ask me about pronunciation, you butchered Greuther Fürth really hard :D
A bit unrelated but I hope you’re trying to move away from the Athletic. I understand you have a deal with them, and you should do what’s best for you. However, I want to let you know what’s happening with the nba and China. An executive for one of the teams tweeted a pro-Hong-Kong post, which sparked a controversy. The Athletic took a stand in support of China based on the country’s economic funding of the company. So, basically, the Athletic sided with a human rights abusing country over protesters fighting for freedom.
@@bennyboy1663 SDC has a great video on it
Best Ben I'm sure you can see how as a professional (or someone who tries to be one😄) under a limited contract with The Athletic, it's not really fitting or appropriate for me to comment on the dealings of a separate division within their company. I am aware of the situation though - both sides of it! The NBA's trip to China has been interesting to say the least...
Rabona TV i liked ur video but it has flaws fro example : Trapp was loaned for 1 year without option to buy he returned to paris and then they bought him . Rode was on loan too he didnt return to dortmund cause Frankfurt made a deal with BvB before his loan was over. Hinteregger was on loan for half a season and returned to augsburg and then they bought him.
Then you look at Man United. Frankfurt did more with 2.5M than United did with 300M
United should have signed Haller smh
Rabona TV's video on how Aston Villa went from european winner to relegation, seems similar to how MU are doing right now. If MU dont get it together then similar fate(like Aston Villa) awaits for them
@@ichbindas7497 that's I was saying to mate the other day , we are currently witnessing the same thing that happened to Aston villa , portsmouth etc. To manU

Same but im proud of us when watching this vid
Frankfurt not only they're good in footballing, But in marketing and business standpoint. They started off just a million Euros but now they're thriving as a German club to watch
Nico Kovac doesn't get enough credit for what he did at Frankfurt
because he snitched
he got a job at bayern, how much more credit can you get?
thats not true, all of our fans are proud of him and our doors will be open for him forever, but for sure, he lied to us and we are fans. we don´t think that was funny for us, we paid a high price for that. We were fourth at that time in the season and lost all games till the end. the only game we won at that tine was the pocal final. the complete was sad about that, players left us. so it was already a hard work for bobic and the stuff to create a new team.
Not really. We are a little bit angry of him, bc he sayed stood now i am stay coach of Eintracht Frankfurter, 2 days later he went to Bayern. We believe that he has lied to is and at this Time already knew that he wants to change the Club
Now in november kovac got sacked by bayern a guess because what?
Oh my god this vid is taking me back. Years of pain and dissapointment. Skibbe, Veh (twice) and Thomas Schaf were depressing times. I will be thanking Kovac, Bobic and Hütter for the rest of my life for these seasons. 2017/18 was a season completely overfilled with emotions. After we just won against Leipzig we were 3rd and I had to Give up my pessimism and let my emotions take over but them Kovac announced his move to Bayern and the team completely dippend. We fell to 8th place on the last game against Schalke taking us oute of the european places. I was devastated. Our only chance to reach european football was beating Bayern which nobody expected. And then that legendary Cup final. If you havent watched it do it and just imagine yourself in that stadium winning the first title in 30 years. And then with that 100m run on an empty goal by gacinovic. It was the first time I cried in years. Everyone thought that was the best moment they would experience in decades but it kept getting better and better. We got the hardest Europa League group there was playing marseille and lazio but we won every single game. Keep in mind we were playing a relegation game just 2 years earlier. Then we got the hardest round of 32 we could get in Shaktar Donezk and we won. Then we won against Inter Milan and Benfica Lissabon. It was unbelievable. Even that Chelsea game was great. I have so many positive emotions to the 2018/19 season. I will never forget it. I still try to watch every Haller, Jovic and Rebic I can because I literally love them. They made the last year the best year of my live.
you are right for a bit, in my opinion it was not veh oder schaafs fault. at that time Bruchhagen had to much to say and i decided a lot of thinks were not so positive. i think, with the new structure also Schaaf would be much more better
@@platonundhenry836 Bruchhagen war ein Depp. Der hat uns über Jahre kaputtgespart.
HAHAH, du bist ja überall
West Ham's capture of Haller exposes Man Utd's sheer incompetence in recruiting. There were promising number 9s out there (and still is for that matter) which they could've signed to replace Lukaku if they would've just got their act together and hired a proper sporting director with a scouting network. I could see Wesley, now at Aston Villa, doing a job for them too, giving Martial and Rashford someone to bounce off making them better players.
Haller fits perfectly at United, and he was incredibly cheap for today's market, they really messed up for losing that one, it didn't even required a good director, anyone with a little bit of knowledge about football would've known that Haller could've being a great number nine, a 4-3-3 of LW Rashford ST Haller and RW James would definitly would've improved United A LOT, if I who lives miles off England and I'm not even a Man Utd fan can know this, how the hell anyone who works there can't see this
Tbf the players which united did sign were excellent signings. It's just that they left it way too late to buy a replacement for Lukaku.
@@cassardavid94 True. But they weren't exactly hidden gems, apart from James who likely outperformed expectation for this season already. There is no excuse for not enough time, considering they only signed 3 all off-season while letting go a decent chunk, while knowing full well a number of their players are under performing and probably need replacing. Frankfurt with little market sway had brought in: Kohr, Sow, Dost, Joveljic, Durm, Silva, while also finalized the signing of Trapp, Hinteregger, Kostic, and Rode after a loan spell. And a few of them could really be upgrade of what Man United has considering they have a blunt attack and a soft midfield. Forget sporting director, they need a negotiator who can do more than 1 deal at a time.
Is not that United squad is necessarily bad, but they just have so few options that is either competent or at least haven't given a chance, and when they get just 1 or 2 players injured or form drop, their attack disintegrates.
I AM an MU fan and when I saw us losing Haller to West Ham of all teams, I was fuming endlessly.
Nothing against West ham
But I thought it was really shocking when Haller went to them
He has Champions League Potential
Frankfurt have done more with 2.5 million than Man United are about to get relegated with about 300 million. What a disgrace.
True
True but let's say if Man Und camed for one of those players it would be 20 mil more look Fekir he was like for Liverpool " 60 mil " to Lyon and this summer he went only for 26 mil to Real Betis so that what club say and what club comes to
CROMEN2 they wouldn’t have cost that much back then
@@northweezie1 they would if a bigger team would come to them look Pavon who wanted him from big boys he was 40 mil by his club and when nobody wanted that he went to LA Galaxy for 7 mil
CROMEN2 True but they’d still be relatively cheap compared to the total shit they’ve wasted almost a billion on
Fantastic coverage of my club, thank you very much for the history recap as well. I may just have one constructive criticism: You could have spent possibly 20 seconds on the performance of the Frankfurt supporters who turned the away games at Chelsea, Inter, Benfica, Lazio and Shahktar Donetsk into home games and the incredible fan choreographies at home. Well done anyways!
Great vid, man! Keep it up.

Honestly Carlos Salcedo should have never left Frankfurt
I kind of agree, but i guess he felt somewhat homesick. Im a frankfurt fan since i can think and honestly salcedo was one of the best defenders i ever saw in frankfurt that point. But we replaced him with hinteregger and he is as good as salcedo but has a much higher meaning for the fans so a win situation for frankfurt but from what i saw also for tigres. salcedo got an introduction as when he was cristiano ronaldo at the club.
nontheless i still wish carlos all the best, he always gave everything for my club
@Godspeed fair enough didnt knew that haha, well he is a good defender nontheless but frankfurt has a bunch of talented and very good defenders
Man united brought Fred for 50 mil 😂
1 goal and 1 assist so far 😂😂
Arun Rai *STONCKS*
Eintracht Frankfurt... this is Love, Passion and Pain!
SGE ❤️ FFM
Great summary I can say as a huge Frankfurt fan! Only the option to buy jovic was not 12.5m but actually much less (around 6-7m) so even a better deal :) Forza SGE🦅
„ Based in of course Frankfurt“ ain’t the only Frankfurt tho.
Yes, but there is only one "true" Frankfurt
Frankfurt am Main vs Frankfurt an der Oder
Frankfurt am Main is a global city and Frankfurt an der Oder is... Well... The opposite
They should appreciate Marco Fabian although he didn’t play ever game he was a decent player for them and did what he could
I loved Marco and its sad that his time in Frankfurt did not turn out as we all hoped. He played a good first campaign but unfortunately his playstyle did not fit with Kovacs system, wich was more about fighting football rather then playing football. Also Kovac is a fanatic when it comes to disciplin and fitness who wants to controll every aspect of the players lives. Those things, combined with Fabians several heavy injuries made it almost impossible for him to play a significant role for the team. If Marco was still 27, and would join us today with Hütter as coach, things would probably turn out different....
Carlos on the other hand struggled a little bit in the beginning, but adapted very fast and was more then a backup for Abraham. I think if he was still here he would regularly be in the starting eleven. But this dude had some serious legal issues in mexico that probably cost him the chance to join the premier league some day.
Bobic is in my opinion the best sportdirecter in the league at the moment. He impresses me even more then Eberl from Gladbach
Michael Zorc is also good.
they seem to be the Wolves of the Bundesliga. Great show thanks
Completely different to be honest
Happy to see some attention. However a player who’s very underrated atm is Danny da Costa. Played every game in the Europa league season and is vital to the playing stay, similar to kostić
can you make another one of these videos now about eintracht
2:50 Grueffer Fawth :D
Did you ever make video on Bury Fc.?...... Seen this video and thought of that
A Phoenix rising from the ashes...
Thats an almost perfect summary of our club history.
Thank you for that ❤️🙏
BUT
you have missed two very important factors:
1. THE FANS
Without the loyal and highly emotional fanbase, the club would have never achieved those successes in the past 4 years.
2. The Clubs philosophy not to let big time investors in and instead take the route of organic growth.
That is another factor why the cohesion between club, team, fans and city is so strong. In times of plastic clubs with no tradition and oligarchs buying football clubs, Eintracht Frankfurt proves, there is another way.
We are a Unity.
We are a Family.
Eintracht Frankfurt International ❤️
A good video although Makoto Hasebe deserved much more than a token mention. His move to CB was a revelation for Frankfurt. He's not even 6ft but was in the running for player of the year last season.
When He Said "Greuther Fürth" i lost my Shit 😅
I have followed the club since 2007.. some players were Gk nikolov, cb kyrgiakos, takahara etc..
Love the Bundesliga
A little detail is wrong. The header at the Video isn't the Goal (of Fred Schaub) that makes Frankfurt ein the UEFA-Cup.
But still a great Video! 😊👍
When you See the Video as a Frankfurt Fan
Leicester worked the transfer market extremely well in the past 10 years - opting for quality players that were too old for the under 23s yet not good enough for another clubs senior team - and spending wisely by camping relegation release fees (Jonny Evans and Harry Magiure) and looking for hidden gems (Riyad Mahrez, Jamie Vardy, and N'Golo Kante). Last summer when the rumors about Harry Magiure was circulating following the World Cup - they went and got two young center defenders - loaned one to Celtic (just happened to be where Brendan Rodgers was still the manager) and kept the other one on the subs bench and let their veteran CB do the mentoring although they went to a pairing of Magiure/Evans. Cesar only got in a few matches in 2018/2019 but when Man United finally got Magiure it just cleared a spot in Leicester starting XI for Cesar. Now Leicester is third in the table, that other CB they signed is in the process of being mentored while getting regular minutes in Under 23s to stay match fit, and Man United is in a run of poor form.
Could you make a video about Parma like this?

The transformation of Eintracht Frankfurt reminds of Dortmund's under Klopp. (Financial) Necessity is the mother of invention.
The professional and personal relationship between Bobic and Kovac seems similar to Klopp and Zorc.
Do a video about dundee united
Great Video, but there was no option to buy for Trapp.
Buying options SGE had only for Philip Kostic (6 Mio € after a 2 years loan from HSV, but Bobic took the option after one year for roundabaut 4,5-5 Mio €). Kevin Trapp, Sebastian Rode and Martin Hinteregger were loans without buying option. Bobic bought Trapp for 7 Mio € (worth 10+ Mio), Rode for 2,5-3 Mio € (worth 5+ Mio) and Hinteregger for 7,5 Mio € (worth 12+ Mio). By the way SGE sold Trapp to PSG for 9,5 Mio € and took him back for 7 Mio €. Actually there's only one SGE player on a 2 years loan: André Silva from AC Milan. We got him while Ante Rebic went on a loan to AC Milan. Bobic said, due to ending transferperiod AC and SGE are willing to discuss and to find agreements about the buying options for Rebic and Silva later this season.
