    Tai Chi is like Yoga in China, a cardio exercise popular among old people. This "master" is totally delusional to think that he stand a chance against a MMA fighter.

      @Jεε¥☯ñG It's not exactly fake tho. It's just not meant for actual fighting, just for "art'. The martial part of it is for show and choreography, not for actually fighting. If you want to fight then do Krav Maga, Hapkido ect. If you want to compete and do a sport then do MMA, Boxing ect. If you want to do meditation or demonstration do Tai Chi, Karate ect. You wouldn't use Tai Chi on the streets, you wouldn't try to box 3 people at once and you wouldn't use Hapkido for show in a tournament. Different martial arts are meant for different things. I prefer the ones meant for real combat but I do also love the sport/tournament ones (I boxed for 2.5 years and have tried MMA, extremely fun and competitive), right now I do a very realistic style of Hapkido involving lots and lots of striking, a good amount of join locks or wrist/elbow/knee breaks, a good amount of throwing and a little bit of grappling. I'm not gonna walk into a ring with gloves on and compete using that, if I wanted to do that I'd box, the same way I wouldn't do a boxing demonstration for visuals or use Tai Chi in a real fight. I don't like Tai Chi but you can't say it's fake if it does what it's meant to do.

      FWIW Wei Lei, the tai chi guy, claimed that he had magical powers and could defeat anyone because of his "mastery" of wushu. After this fight, the Chinese government started making excuses for why Wei Lei lost, most notably that he hadn't eaten enough rice and claiming that he simply slipped.

    That Tai chi guy has been watched a lot of martial arts fantasy movies. I've noticed in those movies they always protrayed the calm Tai chi guy as the Stronger powerful calm character and the MMA character as the weak aggressive emotional character who always ended up losing at the end. I'm so glad this video settled the score once in for all. Now we all can wake up from this dumb fairytale.

    Even though Tai Chi isn't a "real" martial art, you can still see him trying to use the strategy that most Kung Fu styles try, and that's deflecting/slapping away the blows and then counter attacking. In demonstrations it always works, but as you can see here, the deflection attempts bounce right off the powerful punches and the MMA guy just drives straight through to the guys face.

      I've got to kind of agree with Spartan racer, I've got a buddy named Will that does Kung Fu, I've been doing BJJ, Muay Thai, and MMA for about 20 years now, my only experience with Kung Fu before meeting Will was sparring with a dude one time who did Kung Fu about 10 years ago, I took him down effortlessly and the fight was over in less than 30 seconds. Now I'm not an asshole so I didn't shit on him, but I didn't take Will too seriously when he told me that he'd been doing Kung Fu for over a decade, then he showed me videos of some of his competitions and I was more than impressed, it looked like a Muay Thai boxing match! Leg kicks, roundhouse kicks, jabs, crosses uppercuts etc. There were no goofy forms at all. They teach those forms in classes but in the competitions they just brawl! It gave me a good bit more respect for those guys. The ones that really compete, really fight.

    For a long time I didn’t even know that Tai Chi was a martial art that was originally intended for fighting. I thought it was a type of exercise meant to improve health similar to Yoga.
    NCCIH has an article on their site that reads
    “Tai chi is a practice that involves a series of slow gentle movements and physical postures, a meditative state of mind, and controlled breathing. Tai chi originated as an ancient martial art in China. Over the years, it has become more focused on health promotion and rehabilitation.”

  • @abominationdesolation8322
    @abominationdesolation8322 2 роки тому +12

    I don't necessarily think this proves tai chi is useless. Moreso it proves that tai chi practitioners tend to have very little real world fighting experience. If the tai chi fighter could spar with the MMA fighter for a year, you would see him become a very competent fighter who still utilizes many techniques of tai chi. At the end of the day MMA is the ultimate martial art because it's all-encompassing. The best fighting styles will simply be various "flavors" of MMA. You can't get around basic, physical fundamentals. Your subconscious, instinct, and reflexes need to be tuned for real combat and there are only so many viable ways to resist an attacker.

    No excuses, no cope, no ego, no patriotism, just adapt.
    It's actually in the taichi principles themselves: flow and adapt, don't remain rigid as you'll break. This applies to your ego and traditionalism as much as it does your moves.

    This stuff is such a joke. These dudes make Tai Chi look bad. Tai Chi IS a "real" martial art. No, it is not formally meant to be used offensively, yet it IS built around Chinese sword fighting movements. Any long-time practitioner, who actually understands what the movements are, and what they're doing, would not get punked like these dudes are getting so badly punked in these videos everyone gobbles up.
    I took some Tai Chi in college, and our teacher (a woman), showed us the forms at full speed, both empty handed, and with the sword. Looked like it could fuck someone up pretty well, if you actually know how to apply it, to me. She also demonstrated how certain movements could knock the wind out of someone, use their momentum against them, knock them flat on their back, or even break their arm. IF used right. IF the person doing it actually understands the basis of the movements. I'm not saying Tai Chi is the baddest style on the planet, again, it's PRIMARY basis is health, meditation, and energy flow. But it IS also a martial art that could legit kick someone's ass, in the right hands.
    These "Tai Chi is a joke, look how MMA fighters destroy them herp derp" videos, are a disgrace.

    i hate how everyone thinks that all these fighting styles are useless because they lose to a mma fighter...its not exactly a fair fight now is it...its 1 fighting style vs a bunch of different fighting styles. for people that dont know, mixed martial arts are different fighting styles put together to form a well rounded fighter..its basically 1 weapon vs like 5 weapons...like a guy brings a pistol but other guy brings a pistol a rifle maybe a sword, throwing knives and a bullet proof vest which is like a strong defense .plus the mma fighter only had to prepare to fight 1 style while the tai chi guy had to prepare to fight a number of styles..all these different fighting styles, well a lot of them were not meant to be used by themselves in battle..they were meant to be mixed with other fighting styles on the battle field much like how BJJ or judo wasnt meant to be a head on primary fighting style, it was a last resort if a tussle went to the ground...so i dont think this is a fair fight.. let the tai chi guy train a year or so in MMA and i bet he would be way more effective with his tai
    point is, the MMA fighter shouldn't feel so special for winning

      @@Deeznuts-qr3zs first there's really no such thing as a "master" in combat arts. You can get really good at techniques sure, but that doesn't mean it you'll be as "masterful" when subjected to real violence. You need to stress test it. Tai Chi isn't stress tested, and it's moves are not all practical. It's why you don't see traditional martial artists fighting competitively. They're not practical, and are completely useless in one or more scenarios, especially ground fighting. So Israel can be a "master' of Tai chi, but maybe only 5% of those skills would be useful in very particular scenarios during a fight.
