Hi Josie. I am a health and wellness coach in Canada that has followed you from when you lived in London. I was so concerned about what you were eating and what you were avoiding eating at the time that I messaged you privately and letting you know about Dr. Rangan Chatterjee and Dr. Mark Hyman (the doctors Farmacy). I am so glad you have changed your diet and have become interested in health. I wish all people in their 20’s and 30’s (or earlier!) were aware of how important healthy lifestyle habits are…especially for women who are looking to get pregnant. I’m sure by sharing your journey in this vlog it will help others. Just an fyi…I would highly recommend bone broth however, as it becomes more popular food companies will start producing it from poorly raised and treated animals. It is always wise to make your bone broth from organic pasture raised and grass fed (and grass finished if possible) animals. ❤

The point of touching nature is so true. Me and my boyfriend accidentally came across a lovely trail in the Summer but I was wearing heels, so I took my shoes off and I walked barefoot. It was truly the best walk I have ever done, I felt so connected to the outdoors. Living in the U.K with this horrid weather I know it's not always possible, but at any time where you're outdoors on grounds that are suited for it, I would recommend it!

These are great! But I’ve also added some that I think are important!
Not stressing or punishing yourself if you don’t (or can’t, due to finances, availability, time etc.) always make the ‘healthy choice’. Health is also about happiness and mental wellness, and sometimes this means creating your own balance. Let’s be conscious of our health, but not obsessed.
Not every doctor or nutrition expert is created equally, and some health information is still conflicting. Don’t believe everything you hear on a podcast, look at peer-reviewed research etc., if you’d like to know more. Even Dr. Dray reacted to doctors, who claimed retinol caused death, skin thinning, and fat loss. All doctors, totally different views.
It’s also important to recognise that not everyone needs to go to sleep early and wake up early. Night owls and larks etc. are named so for a reason. I have great sleep, but do my best work from afternoon to night. Try things out and see what makes you feel the best!
Don’t always be scared because you don’t recognise an ingredient. Check out the dihydrogen monoxide parody. Scientific literacy is important 😊

Josie, I'm so proud of you! You took the leap to educate yourself in all things wellness. Its so import ant to get a hold of the correct information. I too was worried for you from some of your food choices. I got super involved in health when I was 17, I'm 70 now and only eat real food with a good amount of protein. No sugar or processed foods for decades and its true your health will Shine. My husband and I hike 4 miles 3 times a week and resistance train the other days. We are not on any medications, I still weigh 127 at 5'5" We are happy! As it is so often said and you did as well if you don't have your health , you have nothing. We all have the example of what the food and pharma industry has done. Be a winner take the other route😍😘🌻🌺

Love that all of these were science-based tips that were truly helpful and healthy, focused on longevity and improved functionality instead of appearance. I know that there will be so many different videos coming out about health and wellness in January and many are just fluff or promote unhealthy attitudes and recommendations with no basis in science. Hopefully people find this one and even take a few of these habits to integrate into their life.

Hi Josie, thank you for inspiring me to take more notice of the foods I’m eating and to educate myself in nutrition, but it’s very overwhelming to see how much of the food I normally eat is in some way processed and I’m finding it tricky to plan meals. Would you consider doing a video with lunch ideas or recommendations of brands to buy for certain foods this year please? It would be super helpful 🙏🏻 Thank you!

While I appreciate Josie’s passion about health and wellbeing practices, I personally have never been obsessed with that when it comes to the topic food.
I have always followed one single and simple advice my grandma always said - eat and drink with a limit. I’ve integrated this so well into my life that I don’t even think about it.
The way I do it is that I always eat one portion per meal and never get full. Even if something is extremely delicious, I simply don’t want to get more because I’ve had enough food for that moment. The same thing with drinking - I never enjoyed getting drunk so I never do it.
This simple rule combined with lots of fun games indoors and outdoors with my kids + 3 times working out during the week = I feel great in my body physically and mentally.
    That’s my formula ;)

Good for you. Lots of people struggle with food, and it's nice to see someone like Josie talk about it and address it. We are not all so lucky to have such a problem-free and non-obsessive relationship with food as you. Being able to just stop when you've had enough food, without an exhausting mental battle, is a privilege. I hope you appreciate how lucky you are, and show grace to those who are not. It's not as easy for everyone as for you. Do not judge other people for not being able to stop eating, because 100% of the time, it stems from old trauma, childhood trauma or restrictive obsession. Your comment has a vibe of "it's so easy, why doesn't everyone just do as I do", but I hope I'm wrong. For a lot of people, food helps them cope with unresolved childhood trauma or emotional problems. That's why they go through binge-restriction cycles, because food soothes the emotional centers in our brain, but they then feel shame about eating and then restrict. Please show some grace. You clearly don't have a strained relationship with food, when you're able to just stop. For some people, food is the only dopamine shot they get.

I would highly recommend doing some more research on the whole glucose level monitoring. Our bodies are actually quite well built, the way our body knows how to react in different situations. Healthy people really don't get any valuable information about our health knowing our gly levels, other than our pancreas works well and knows how to secrete insulin. As a doctor I would highly recommend thinking a lot about the information around us because health and wellness world can be unfortunately very misleading and even harmful.

    • @narelleparsons6745
      @narelleparsons6745 11 місяців тому

Totally agree. Odd bod doctors and their podcasts can be very misleading. Not at all impressed by this vlog. Much is misinformed and misleading. Health is way more complex and speaking in such simplistic terms is quite annoying and even dangerous. For example, gut health is a very complex topic. Really bugs me listening to people blabbing about serious topics that they know little about.

Just another comment Josie. I've just been out into the garden and picked some perpetual spinach from my raised bed and added a good handful into my homemade veg soup. I can't praise the perpetual spinach enough -- it literally grows all year round and was still going strong in the minus 12 we had last winter. An incredible, easy-to-grow addition to your veg patch. Just wanted to return a useful and healthy suggestion. Why not give it a go this year. xxx

Hi Josie, thank you for sharing and inspiring us all with a jump start on a healthy 2024! Looking forward to listening to the podcasts. My favorite of your tips is getting out in nature. I just retired from working with a natural resource agency. One of our programs was encouraging kids to get out and appreciate nature.... How important this is in development and taking this love of nature into adulthood. The book. Last Child in the Woods-Saving Our Children from Nature Deficit Disorder was one of our go to books. Happy New Year! Let's hope for a better and peaceful one!❤ P.S. Also, I love your sweater, and was wondering what brand.

Very informative and interesting. I also like to watch what goes into my mouth and since I have a few allergies I must - if I like it or not - make sure the food is both lactose-free and gluten-free. The old saying "We are what we eat " is true and thus we cannot blame anyone else for sicknesses or other problems inside our bodies as only we have chosen the food we eat.

Tip: Use the water you cooked vegetables in for stocks, gravies & sauces. Keep it in the fridge or freeze it. Keep a bag of off cuts from vegetables to add to stocks & strain & discard when stock is done. Same with bones, just keep them separate & add to them to gather enough to make a broth. Don’t forget it’s not just meat & poultry but fish trimmings too. It really does up the ante for flavour in your home cooked meals.

Loved this video and a great way to start the new Yr! Intermittent fasting has been amazing for me, I use the Zero app. Also moving your body everyday even it’s a long walk (I have never regretted doing that!) another big thing for me has been keeping promises I make to myself, just that alone has really helped my confidence and mental health because I can trust myself and know I am a person of my word. Also, taking care of your teeth, skin, hair, nails spending quality time with family and friends, Being kind and compassion towards others, gratitude, learning new skills spirituality so many things!

I was doing it without realizing since I am not a morning person and don't have any appetite until noontime. I eat during 7-8 hours (12:00 to 8:00, but usually done by 7:30. I agree to a point about ultra processed food but Xantham gum isn't a good example - my gluten free friends who enjoy baking need to add it to the gluten free flour when baking cakes. So you do find it in many kitchens! Just because you don't recognise an ingredient doesn't make it bad.

Some really good points Josie. I think all of us can educate ourselves more on health and nutrition. If you are going to be passionate about one thing, then it should be your health. I would also add meditation 🧘‍♀️ and that can also be walks in nature or listening to classical music or reading a novel. Anything that relaxes the mind and gives you some escapism.x 🎊🧚‍♀️🥂

I have been eating ketovore for the last 5 years. I’m in my late 50s. I’ve healed my gut and pre diabetes, I want to spend my last decades in good health, not in and out of hospital or the doctors. Agree with all your tips, and follow all the podcasts you mentioned. Remember it’s never too early to start to change the way we eat especially.

I never listen to doctors, nutritionists, or experts....1 listen to your own body, 2, eat all in moderation, 3, the best diet is from those who is above 100 years old and you will surprised.

Hi Josie. I recently found your channel, actually at the start of vlogmas. It was so beautifully done and I enjoyed so thoroughly. I just watched some old vlogs and must say you have matured into a beautiful young woman. I'm so glad you have slowed down when talking, I found your younger speech distracting. I think that must be in some part due to maturing. Looking for videos of when you moved into your heavenly home. I adore your area and the lifestyle! Happy 2024!

Have been watching your vlogs for 5 years now, and have seen evolvement of interest in healthy eating and health overall, your commitement and achievements. In year to the wedding your body really changed and is clearly healthier and more toned and defined. I did the same at your age and with view of having children. Loved every vlog with gardening/harvesting and cooking and baking. Your chanell is my inspiration more so since you moved, just a month after I had my big move too. Thank you for the vlogs and contents. Have a fab 2024. 😊

Happy New Year and thank you for this video! I am in my sixties and have practiced many of these things all of my life. I exercise, eat healthy - no processed food and water is my drink of choice. I do not take any medications. I buy organic from a small grocer. I really enjoyed this video and all the links. It is difficult to find good sources for these topics as there are always new things to learn. It would be great if you could do a video on making bone broth. Also, I really like the paint color of the fireplace in the background of your room. Can you share the name of the color? Just love your doggies - so cute! Thank you

Happy new year dear Josie and Family!
I really enjoyed the video and I'm excited to implement a lot of those healthy habits in the new year! I'm a big fan of Dr. Michael Greger and his Books "How not to die" and "How not to age". He is talking about foods that are scientifically proven to prevent and reverse a lot of illnesses.
    Have a fabulous honeymoon!❤
