I learned a lot by practicing low speed skills in a football stadium parking lot
Great advice. Ome more thing for any new vehicle, read the owners manual. Then read it again. So many do not know the funtions and cause wrecks just trying to adjust something they are not familiar with.😁
You’re absolutely right!!! 👍👍👍
Good advice. It took me weeks before I took mine on the highway. After riding two wheels for decades, it is different. I was forced off the highway at 70 mph in the right lane, when a semi decided to take the the exit. I found out real fast how stable the Can Am is and I was able to bring it to a stop on right way from 70 mph. I am so glad I spent all the training in steering.
after a 12 year absence i went from the dealer directly onto the interstate. i'll tell you i was wide eyed the entire 62 mile ride home.
Great advice! The best tip I got when I first got my Spyder was to not grip the handle bars too tight. After 4000 miles I am getting to know my Spyder and I love it!
remember our conversation about me riding home like i was on a 3 day bender ... i laugh now but at the time i thought i made the biggest mistake of my life.
Oh wow, you brought back memories of how nervous I was re-learning how to ride because of how different the handling of a Spyder is Vs 2 wheels, but that is part of the fun of Spyder, yes it is very diffferent, but it is also so much fun 😁👍👍
I love your new bike. It is very cool.
@@CoachBob3 Thanks 🤗 It's fun to have 2 wheels again 😁😁😁
I just purchased a Spyder and love it.Feels so much safer than a 2 wheeled bike.
Right on!!! Congratulations on your Spyder!!!
Thank you.More people should give them a try.Even my wife wants to get her bike license.
Can Am also offers riding course that I took so that’s another option
Good advice, especially with knowing your machine. The controls need to be muscle controlled memory (locate and control the switch without looking). As far as funds, helmet and gloves first, then a jacket. For the machine, my money first went towards safety (better mirrors, brighter lights, more visibility).
2023 spyder f3 ltd. This is my second machine and truly love it.
great advice Bob.
Great advice for new riders, Coach. Reminds me when i got my Spyder a few years ago.
Good stuff. Thanks Coach Bob.
👍👍👍
Thanks again for another great video. I always learn something new about riding a Spyder and how to do it safely.
Great advice
Great video and topic
Great advice, I would like to add that taking the Can Am safety class is also a great first step. I learned a lot from the class. I had the “advantage” of not having been on a two wheel motorcycle in many years so I didn’t have to unlearn as much. My wife and I love are 2022 RTL. We have about 1700 miles so far but that is mostly local trips no touring yet. We plan on taking a trip next summer for our 50th anniversary. Getting the Spyder was as much her idea as mine which has made it nice. Really enjoy your videos! Thanks for what you do. God Bless!
I took the course as well, although they had Rykers instead of Spyders.
I agree with the recommendation on the Spyder training course. It’s a good way to learn skills and how to practice those skills.
Great information Coach Bob. My wife and I were lucky to be able to take a basic 3-wheel motorcycle safety class upon Can Am Rykers where we learned to ride, take our State drivers written test, road test and get a certification to take to the DMV and get our licenses. It’s been great to meet other Spyder owners and talk with them about their experiences. We met a great couple in their mid 80’s who had purchased a new Sea to Sky. They were previously riders of two wheel motorcycles with over a million miles of experience. Anybody can learn to ride one of these safely and feel confident but I agree you have to put in the work to learn just like you would want to learn anything new.
Good advice, I tell buddies that want to try it out “quiet hands”, it’s very sensitive steering and totally different than our Harleys. Still spooked a couple of them.
Thanks Coach. Great info
Another great informative video....all the things I have been doing on my tilting motor works harley as I continue to get more and more comfortable
Your talks about Can-Ams are _great_. I'm thinking about getting one, but won't rush into it. Going to do plenty of research first and - if and when I buy one - will take the safety lessons at the dealership. I'll be following you to learn more. Thanks!
Thanks Robert... we are glad you're here!!!
I was nervious about getting a Spyder as well, but took a chance and love it.The start up procedure is a pain, but other than that they are very easy to drive.
Great tips my friend. I always try to familiarize myself with the controls with my eyes closed while siting still in the garage or driveway. Until it becomes automatic. Great vid brother.
Thanks brother. How ya doing?
@@CoachBob3 Doing great. Riding as much as I can. Everytime I get on the Spyder, I love it more and more. Did a nice Fall Color ride last Saturday. Here is the first vid using my "Possum View" cam.

Hi Coach Bob, thanks for all your advice it is greatly appreciated. I will be looking for the can am safely class as other have said. My wife and I are looking forward to the ride. Now the wait for it to come in.
Big D
Coach Bob all great tips You hit the nail on the head.
Thanks buddy...I appreciate that!
Great advice, Coach Bob! Yep, yep, yep, and yep! Safety gear is important to me as is learning about my ryde. Also, it had been a few years since I had my own bike, so taking the 3-wheel course was important to me. Oh yes, the sensitivity of the steering...I've let folks try my Spyder and that is one of the big things they say about it! Turns take practice...the baja ron sway bar improves that for sure. Yep, I am impressed with the acceleration of my Spyder...knowing how it performs is very important. Have a blessed day! 🤗🤗
All very solid tips for the new rider and the seasoned vet rider. Great topic that help folks!
Thanks 👍... How is Mr. KRAKEN doing?
@@CoachBob3 Good, super busy these days. :)
@@KrakensGarageandAdventures I understand. I’m getting ready to SLOW DOWN. Holidays and kids are gonna be sweet. Swim is over next week. I’ve stocked up on coffee…ahhhhh.
I would ad on going out learning to find an empty parking lot first then after I get comfortable move to a non busy street. Just my thoughts.
You are absolutely correct!!!👍👍👍👍
Thanks!
Wow. Thanks so much!!!
@CoachBob3 You got it, man! I'm getting my Spyder in a few weeks and found a great training location near my home where I'll practice. It's an elementary school parking lot that looks like a race track, with areas I can practice all of my skills on.
I just got my 2023 Spyder Rt Ltd 2 weeks ago. I had a Harley Ultra Limited for 13 years. The difference between the two is night and day. Your assessment of things to learn is spot on. I have one question for you. Does the steering loosen up after awhile?
The steering on my 2019 is still firm and responsive. Comparing it to the 2023 I am riding.. in terms of loosening up. I would say it still feels pretty much like it did when I bought it. Great question. 👍👍👍
Hi Coach, great advice, many thanks, I'm getting closer to D-Day, made the decision its going to be the monolith black with blue (not a fan but I couldn't live with HiViz manta green) Already bought new 'the Stig' full face helmet, the others have sat untouched in garage roof space for 26 years, Dainese Saetta D-Dry & seriously considering the full wet Tonale which I hope will live 99.99% of its life in the frunk. Gloves & ankle boots still to finalize but getting closer now I know where the ££ is coming from. So, thanks again, message re good protection taken & all things being equal practicing the basics might happen this side of the new year. Only issue, finding roads that arent already a race track, rat-run or in the city. p.s. did you ever swim this side of the pond?
Your the Best
Where does your friend in Louisiana live
When I get my bike I would try to ride with him
Loisiana Mike live is Lafayette ... He is a great guy.
Coach Bob I hope you see this fairly soon but do you have a video on putting gas in the gas tank of the spyder rt? I haven’t done it yet and don’t see any videos out there on how to do this. I don’t wanna spill gas all over it. Thanks in advance!
