Really creative ideas, thanks for sharing them! We need more caches out there that are worthy of finding. I'd be so excited to find ammo cans in the field like these. I took notes!
Love them!!!! 1- the tape measure - I’m thinking of camo- ing the tape measure “box” for lack of better word- putting it up in tree, and using the key as pull down - wait never mind-, was going to incorporate it into that pvc birdhouse one- but that has a key hidden in it already- But, you could combine number one and number three- the pull down key to use as the magnetic detector- I love the numbers written all over the ammo can! Love them all- all simple enuf creative/gadgets that I can do- if I don’t start overthinking things!!!! Thank you as always for providing these for us cachers who love to make homemade hides!!!! I still would like to do an electronic type, but just don’t have the know how yet. I’m still putting out pvc gadgets and getting great comments and fav points- cachers so happy to have others than the usual grc, lpc etc etc around here!!!
Patience caches I've mostly seen called needle-in-a-haystack, so that's a new one for me :) All great simple creative caches, seen a bunch of them in various implementations over the years. Great overview and idea video! And nice tip for locking ammo cans too.
Thank you so much for this Derek! I am starting to hide caches and didn't want to just do micro or LPC. These ideas make it easy to be creative. Thanks again and happy caching!
Brilliant ! love it thank you. I'm feeling inspired. I just signed up for Geocaching in Costa Rica and want to make more caches for others to play. Fun times ahead !!! :)
Nice ideas-a few suggestions that will benefit your viewers and the community. 1) If you're using a military surplus ammo can be sure to cover all of the original markings. 2) If you're using a padlock for your creative geocache, make sure you select one that is designed for outdoor use. Not all of them are.
Love these cache ideas! Thank you so much for the info on the locking bolt for ammo cans. We've had so many discussions on how to lock a metal ammo can and that bolt fixes our problem! I also have been looking for tamper-proof locks. Thanks for the resource! I love the term "patience cache". I'm going to start using that term in my cache descriptions!!! 🙂
I wish I could go do this. I can't because I don't have the cash to do it. I've cached most of the caches around me. But this is one of the funnest hobbies I've had. But these are great.
Thanks alot Derek, I'm really new to Geocaching and have been looking into the different types of Caches I can deploy myself. I'll probably try and give all these a go. Awesome.
These are really great idea's for geocaches Derek. I really like when you give other variations of the geocache to use. I have a spare ammo can so you know that I will be making one of these creative geocaches! Thank you
On that last cache with the magnets - couldn't it turn out to be four different numbers and then you would have to figure out which order it would be? ie 1234 4321 3214 etc. Is that part of it as well? or did I miss something?
Hi Derek would you be able to sent me the details of the lock you used with the key to prevent the lock's code from being changed. We have a gadget cache here in Auckland where someone knows the combination and keeps changing it. Thanks.
These are all amazing, and I'd love to make them, however, living in a region where there is snow possibly 5 months of the year, I would be concerned about leaving a combination lock exposed to the elements. Same with the tape measure. Any suggestions on how to protect these items from a wintry exposure? We did find a similar one with a tape measure a few years ago, but it has since been archived, and I'm wondering if it was because of the winter. Great hide, though!!
Starting work on number three idea - first I think I’ll paint the ammo can- have to see how the plastic takes the paint- and I got a set of two padlocks off amazon/ that you can set the combination yourself- the ammo can has two end hole lock 🔒 areas- so they’re going to have to find a total of 8 numbers written on the can to get both locks open!!!! This will not being a p&g lol!!! Will post pics when it’s done.
Fun ideas! I had a cool camo tape measure cache for a few years, and cachers loved it.
Really creative ideas, thanks for sharing them! We need more caches out there that are worthy of finding. I'd be so excited to find ammo cans in the field like these. I took notes!
Great yeah a great cache doesn’t take a lot of effort but a simple twist will bring a smile to so many.
YES, that's perfect, those are 3 awesome creative ways to improve geocache hide-and-seek!
I like #3...but how do you know what order the numbers go for the lock? That could take a while.
Love them!!!!

Yeah there are so many different Types of combinations that you can do. Just remember they don’t have to be complicated to be fun.
Behind the Cache exactly, you’re right!!!!

I love these. I would love another video for creative urban caches.
Perfect! Yeah, those are 3 great, creative ways to up your geocache hiding game!
They are fun to find and should give you those favorite points you are looking for.
Nicely done. We have found variations of each of these. All were fun to solve! Thanks for the shared link for the combination lock!
Yeah that is the same lock that Chad “Bounce Bounce” got me started on.
Love these idea's! ! I have to try some of these...Thanks for sharing.
Great! I think I'd try some variation of the third one. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Great 👍 I would love to see a variation on it.
Awesome ideas! Thanks!

Very true. Those are some great points. Thanks

Glad those will help. I had a friend that shared those items with me as well. Glad I could pass along the help I got as well. Happy hiding.
I love this video! Thank you so much!

Great good luck on your hides.
That locking notch is a great resource! Thanks.
Thanks I really like it.

Great simple and fun and that is what it is about. Thanks Hugh

Yes you are right 4 different numbers but you could also give hints like top, right, left ,front too to make it easier
Thanks for sharing these. May not make these exactly, but some ideas to incorporate in future hides.
Matt Outdoors yeah that is the idea to share the idea. I love seeing how others take the basic idea and run with it.
Excellent thanks 😊
Love the last cache great idea
Liked number three. Thanks for such a clear explanation and great ideas.
That one is cool. Your welcome. Thanks for watching.
Hi Derek would you be able to sent me the details of the lock you used with the key to prevent the lock's code from being changed. We have a gadget cache here in Auckland where someone knows the combination and keeps changing it. Thanks.
Just seen the link in the description. Thanks :-)

I couldn’t because I don’t have that extreme temperature difference where I live. But a good quality lock should be good. The tape measure not sure.
Very cool love the last one especially
Thanks for this video !
I may try these. Thanks for the video.
im definately gonna try the first and last one!!

Wow love that variation. Can’t wait to see pictures.
Behind the Cache glad you like the idea! Yes, I’ll be sure to post pics!
Nice creative cache ideas! Thanks!
Thank you
Ok, going to use the tape measure to hide a fake pinecone that animals keep wondering off with. How would you secure this in a tree?
You could use zip ties (Wire ties) to go thru the belt clip on the tape measure. That is how I would do it. I hope that makes sense.
Awesome ideas! ❤
The tape-measure cache could also be made as a multicache
Very true. So many different variations you could do.
Love these.
Thank you. Which one was your favorite?
Behind the Cache I like the a mo can with magnets inside.
Great simple ideas!
Thank you. Not mine but love to share and there are so many different variations on these
Great ideas!
Thanks Gary.
i am gonna try this
Is picking geocache locks considered poor sportsmanship? 😂 Lol
Thx,!!
great idea's
Thank you. I can’t take full credit for them I have found some like this and just wanted to share the love.
Hey
Cleaver guy
Ugh. "Patience Cache". I would totally assign negative FPs to that if I could
Different caches for different people.
I love your video. I also love geocaching and made a video, check it out.
WTF is this about ?
Thanks for stopping and watching it is about Geocaching. A high tech scavenger hunt of types.
so fun! Thank you!
Great ideas!
