- Taken from the TV series Band of Brothers, in this scene Captain Sobel has managed to get lost while on an exercise in England. When he leads his men up to a wire fence he orders them to take cover behind some bushes while he checks where they are on a map. The men of his platoon get Sgt. Luz, an impersonator, to pretend to be Major Horton. Pretending to be the major, Luz orders Sobel to cut the fence and ... get this goddamn platoon moving!
Later at company HQ, with cows wandering aimlessly in the grounds, Sobel is informed that Major Horton is on leave in London.
"Oh that dog just ain't gonna hunt!" Brilliant!
"And remember boys, flies spread disease. So keep yours closed!"
Pretty sure Tipper knew exactly what was going on. His laugh and smile cracks me up every time.
"...does a wild bear crap in the woods son?"
Best line... ever.
Get that god damned platoon on the move!
What is the god damn hold up Mr. Sobel?
Who said that?! Who broke silence?!?
Zildjian Leonor I think is Major Horton sir?
A fence sir! A barbed wire fence!
“Oh that dog just ain’t gonna hunt!”
Now you get this gawdamn platoon on the move!
The brilliance of this scene is that there is there’s always that one guy in your company who can accurately imitate and mimic ANYONE. The writers of this show truly “get it” when portraying the daily minutiae of military life….
Soble could train, but knew nothing of tactics. Couldn't read a map
He knows tactics
And couldn't even spot an ambush lmao. But the guy was a rigorous disciplinarian.
Everyone has a "Sobel" in their life
A FENCE, SIR. A Err...."god dam" A BARBED WIRE FENCE.
watched one scene no im gonna have to go dig out my box set and watch the hole damn thing
The One With the Barbed Wire Fence
This scene is absolutely hilarious
I about busted a gut when I saw this scene for the first time on the DVDs.
YOU GIT THIS GOD DAMN PLATOON ON THE MOVE!!!
How come he is so good at training men and so shit at leading them at the same time?
Military is full of them. When you meet a lot of Drill Sergeants, they are good at scaring the shit out of a bunch of kids, but not at basic soldiering. Land Nav, tatics, making decisions under fire. Or just plan make it happen. They talked a lot of shit, but that was it. We use to call them tin soldiers. When Jesica Lynch's convoy got ambushed, It sounded like to me none of the reservist could read a map. I mean take a compass, a map, protractor, know three pieces of info. Grid North, true north, magnetic north. Those GPS's from BPS do not work in the desert or jungle too much cover overhead.
Training and leading are different concepts.
The saying is people who fail in a trade teach.
@@wispa1a Maybe if its a trade, but not if its a scuence.
@@outdoorlife5396 Lincoln had a similar problem...McClellan could train troops, but he could not fight them...the problem was solved when Lincoln put Grant in charge....😊
Poor Captain Sobel lol

LOL, classic
Captain Sobel was real-life Severus Snape we hate them in your young but appreciate them as adult🙂
I have the 69th like and wasn't even trying...
In reality he cut the fence on his own decision, only in the fictionalized version was it because of someone impersonating a major. That was an incredibly bad choice.
