      Will miss I:RoE. The combination of THAT music with the fireworks and globe was always a highlight of any visit to Epcot. I’ll always have the CD though. Looking forward on whatever Disney put in its place but it will have big shoes to fill.

      @@brenster1000 Oh, the music. I used to have the CD but I misplaced it. ;_; That music, and the music from the Tapestry of Nations parade that I'm sad I never got to see.

    • @brenster1000

      celestinenox I did see Tapestry of Nations back in May 2001 but sad to say I can’t remember much of it. I do remember the puppets/costumes though. Even the music fails to bring much to mind, unlike Reflections & We Go On and Fantasmic, the music of which I know almost off by heart.
      The IllumiNations Reflections Of Earth does pop up on eBay quite often. The only CD I saw on my last visit to WDW 2 weeks ago was a 3CD in Magic Kingdom, a compilation of the parades and attractions music.

      I thought it started in January 1988? That would make it 30 years old. We first saw it in October 1988 and we loved that original version with music played for each country when the pavilions would light up to match up with the music.

    To an extent Disney should keep their franchises out of epcot to reenforce the theme of the future and world cultures to a higher degree.

    • @lfhlaw
      @lfhlaw 7 років тому +13

      Well Epcot was supposed to change with the times as well. Thus Future world. The idea was that Disney would update with help from Sponsors. The problem was that some Sponsors eventually left which is what happened with the Wonders of Life Pavilion and Horizons I believe. They've been fortunate with Mission Space and Test Track to have sponsors though the sponsors do get to advertise afterwards.

    • @trekkeruss
      @trekkeruss 7 років тому +7

      Walt Disney originally took on sponsors because he alone didn't have the money to create his grand visions. Nowadays, Disney is a monster corporation. They don't need sponsors to build or keep attractions up to date; that is merely an excuse. Frankly, it is easy to fall back on franchises and characters. But hey, it is change, and most people don't care about the original vision of EPCOT; it is merely Epcot. The masses just want to be entertained, and they will be, and Disney will make a bucket of money.

    • @cardman1031
      @cardman1031 6 років тому +8

      +trekkeruss yes until people get bored of the 50th ip based ride. If we thought like u we would never have space, big thunder, it's a small world, it al just be movies. Why go to 4 parks if they are all the same? Once u ride 10 dark movie ride do u need to go to another park to ride same thing nope. This will hurt Disney in the long run, homogenous parks make no sense and just pure laziness.

    • @trekkeruss
      @trekkeruss 6 років тому +4

      cardman1031, you misunderstand. I am not for ip attractions or the homogenization of the parks. But while you might think some people will get bored, there are always new customers to hook, customers who have never experienced the "old" and arguably better Disney park experience.

    Renewable energy is a recurring theme in 21st Century U.S. and world policy. I feel that replacing the Energy theme at Epcot Center with of all things, a roller coaster: 0:59 is but a distraction from energy issues and policies that can be treated in a lighthearted manner, either within the existing UoE building or within the proposed add-on structure. I hope the developers and powers that be within Disney reconsider this coaster proposal and instead focus on alternative/renewable energy development as a theme for a new dark ride in that area of Future World!

    The ideas of Walt Disney was to never be fully complete. Comic Book heroes go in fads which is why Walt Never pushed for them to be in the park as they were around back then and were popular comics. Walt's vision was for attractions that would be lasting for all time. Rides like Tiki Tiki Room or It's A Small World are not specific to any one interest or fad.

    • @shagggadoo

      comic books and related movies have basically been popular since their inception. First the comics, then the games, then the first wave of cinema, and now entire 10 year cinematic universes. I see it lasting just as long as any other ride, which is fine, because 20+ years in, some of the oldest rides are just.....eugh

    • @emanuelrivera8048
      @emanuelrivera8048 6 років тому +2

  • @totempolejoe1
    @totempolejoe1 5 років тому +10

    I'm not against Epcot basing rides and attractions off of their IPs and franchises. But I concur with everyone saying that the overhaul seems to stray from the original Epcot, which itself strayed from Walt Disney's vision. Guardians of the Galaxy should be in Hollywood Studios, not Epcot. Another World Showcase country would be awesome, though.

    It's time to make EPCOT great again! And the only way to do that is to bring on the cool science and culture stuff that made it actually great. At this rate Epcot will have to be renamed Magic Kingdom 2 Electric Boogaloo

    • @Xmetalfanx
      @Xmetalfanx 7 років тому +6

      I use to say Epcot was my favorite ... only issue with this comment i have ... is that I like the Magic Kingdom too ... miss a few old attractions but still like it .... Epcot will (cant beleive i am saying this) be a "eh ... maybe go for one or two things" and possibly skip now.... IRONIC (not counting stuff in World Showcase i admit) .... the two things that come to mind are Spaceship Earth and Living with the LAnd ... stuff that has been there awhile and I still love ... with stuff like Imaginations ... they should look at what they did to SPaceship earth ... upgrade the tech .. change one or two things but stop overhauling what people love about epcot .... almost like Epcot is turning into Universal :|

    • @ecoRfan
      @ecoRfan 7 років тому +3

      Epcot has always been my favorite but Magic Kingdom still has WD's classic nostalgia kept mostly intact. At this rate I wonder what is to become of Epcot. Has become less about each of us building the future with science, technology, and world culture. More about thrill rides, advertising for various sponsorship companies, and promos for movies and such that aren't part of the original WDW legacy. In a way it resembles the decline in people wanting to design or engineer or having a master plan when they work with their hands.

    • @sdonaldson6550

      The popularity and expansion at Universal has Disney worried. I wish they would work on updating the existing attractions instead of trying to add more rollercoasters and Superhero themes to compete with Universal. Epcot is a favorite place for my husband and I. We both love the educational aspects and quite beauty of that park. These changes are really going to put a damper on our Epcot experience.

      s Donaldson I agree. My favorite place in Epcot is in and around the Land Pavilion. I love the beautiful music they play inside from the Soarin' queue. The pavilion itself is beautiful and it just had a quiet, calming ambiance. If they changed the music or put a new thrill ride here I would be devastated. I used to feel the same way about Future World East, but the last time I was there Universe of Energy was closed, most of Innoventions was closed, it just felt like that area is slowly dying when during my first trip in 2014 everything was still vibrant and alive.

    I would be sad to see the loss of Journey Into Imagination, as I went on it when it was brand new when Epcot first opened. Journey had always been my favorite ride (right up there with the old Horizons ride... R.I.P.), and I was not happy when they revamped it to the current shortened version... At least Figment will still be kept, even if he is going to be a side attraction and not part of the main attraction. I still own my original Figment Dragon Plush (now it belongs to my daughter).

    Thank you for this well done video and update on Epcot. As an annual Passholder for now, my increasing disappointment in the announcements of what is to come at Disney World in general, produce further dissatisfaction on the management and direction the parks are headed. You have to wonder who is making these awful decisions. Guardians of the Galaxy should be at the Studios, Tron at Epcot. Where is Australia, Switzerland, India at Epcot? The new 4 lane freeway cross the parking tolls at the Magic Kingdom ruin the entire approach. Walt undoubtedly is once again rolling over in his grave. They need to form a committed called WWWD (What would Walt Do). If so, about 90% of the recent decisions and changes would have been re-evaluated.

    Glad to see Epcot getting some TLC. Not crazy about a Guardians roller coaster. Universe of energy was rather long and got less exciting over the years, but its replacement should continue to be educational. As for Figment, I think an Inside Out attraction could work. On the world showcase I'd be more inclined to prefer Brazil as half the world showcase is already Europe. Ratatouille sounds like fun. I wish they did more to spruce up the countries though. Reflections of China for exampe could use an update, making use of those near borderless LED panels, maybe make the screens into a dome and use 4K video.

      When ever I go, I avoid the French pavillion. It just looks well tired for lack of a better term. Thinking about it, it’s the only country pavillion I do avoid. I mean there are the outdoor huts representing Africa with the wood work animals and African tribal masks for sale.

      I'd like to see dreamfinder also return, but unfortunately not likely, Dreanfinder was actually copywritten by Kodak, and when they left they took the rights to use that character with them.. At least figment will still hang around in what is currently that side theater which will be remade in to a show of some kind that features him. Personally I'd like to see them use some of that near unused land behind the imagination pavilion and create a new one for the inside out there, and then re-imagine the original place to be an all figment one, including the newer ride styles such as appeared in Mystic Mannor, and so one. Disney should also make a try to buy the rights to Dreamfinder so they can bring him back.

    Yes to a replacement for Illuminations. It's way overdue. Yes to an additional pavilion in the world showcase, hopefully where the "trading outpost" is now, which really hasn't much to offer. The rest of it makes me fear Epcot is losing it's original theme. A science oriented attraction replaced with just another roller coaster that would seem better suited to a different park, and rides such as Frozen introduced to what is meant to be a world's fair. Yes I know Frozen technically is associated with Norway, but not in the way Maelstrom celebrated the culture of that country. All that said, whatever they do will likely be fun and well done, but I hate to see them throw away what's good already.

    I dont believe Walt would approve of these changes, Epcot was supposed to showcase the innovations of tomorrow, and how the world is ever changing, and even though sadly he passed before getting to see it, Epcot stiull stayed in line with its theme of learning and education, the changes they are doing to epcot are messing with it original theme, and it seems like they are all out of nowhere. I think they need to keep all the marvel/super hero stuff at Hollywood studios. It isn't Disney and doesn't belong at Magic Kingdom, Epcot or even animal Kingdom. I'm not even a fan of Avatar being placed at Animal Kingdom. It isn't Disney....period. Disney owns the company, it doesn't mean it needs to be in the parks. I do however feel it would all fit at Hollywood Studios. Especially after they rebrand it.

We are all voting for an update but most of all a continuation of the original theme of Epcot, the future and imagination.

    I don't like a good majority of the changes that are coming. Disney seems to only pay attention to what's popular and will add movie franchises to anything just to build up the hype. Nobody seems to care about pure education that can last generations and isn't tied to temporary fads. The Energy Adventure attraction had a good run and is ready for replacement, but guardians of the galaxy (or any movie franchise) is nowhere near a good fit. The only changes I like are the addition of new countries to the world showcase. It's fine to let your children enjoy movies and heroes but I wish more children were excited about education, culture and learning about the world around them. I guess I can blame the disinterest on our crappy education system though.

Epcot, while certainly not the glorious attraction that made it my favorite park at WDW these days, is still my favorite park and most of these additions would kill a good deal of it for me. Disney parks are the last places on Earth that need more roller coasters and movie tie-ins.

      Adiel Alfonso it adds to the dramatics of the show. The music is beautiful and moving and the globe segment plays to it perfectly. I saw the new Happily Every After show and it is just 15 of continuous stimulation with a crappy storyline and so-so music. It is like people have to be constantly stimulated or they lose interest. IllumiNations is an amazing show. That being said, I am okay with them replacing it as long as the replacement show has some feeling and a good meaning behind it.

    • @tcrtl2010
      @tcrtl2010 6 років тому +3

      Steve, you said my exact thoughts! I hate the Happily Ever After show. Yes it is cool, but there is nothing emotional about it. The music does not build suspense or drama. And there's no flow to it. Illuminations is now the only show to have that. Fantasmic has its moments, but is not as amazing, and then Rivers of Light is just boring.
      If they replace it, they better use a good storyline and soundtrack, instead of just using a ton of firepower and projections.

Besides with changes rapidly coming to jobs due to technology we need whole new ways of looking at how people are to live and thrive in the future because it is rapidly not people in other countries taking jobs, it is technology that is doing it. Look up Jeremy Rifkin for some insight and solutions. Crying about lost jobs overseas helps no one.

    When I first visited Florida Disneyworld as a band chaperone (1984l, I expected it to be interesting, but as a 37yr old, the ride aspect wasn't too compelling for me.
    When I was growing up, the daily Micky Mouse Club and weekly Walt Disney Show created such a built in demand to visit California Disneyland that it was the place every kid HAD to see!
    In 1967 our family finally traveled there. I had just graduated high school and had "out grown" the "kid view", but still wanted to experience my tv childhood fantasies. I wasn't expecting too much.
    Well, I loved it! Not for it's content so much, but because it's production values (especially compared to the amusement park style and quality I had available when I was younger).
    I was blown away, one could literally eat off the street, it was so clean. Nothing was cheap looking! The landscaping was lush and abundant. Better than most civic/public gardens and parks. I "got" it!
    Getting back to my band experience, it wasn't a letdown. But I wasn't so sure about this Epcot thing. Why would one want to go to some pavilions to look at cultural exhibits from different countries? Boring! And the same for the World Market.
    A place for adults and families. Civilized!
    Because of those concepts, production values, safety, within park transportation, food, accommodations we chose to have our honeymoon there.
    It was wonderful! We didn't have to "do" anything, we could just "be". So memorable and relaxing.
    We've been back several times with our children. They loved it and we felt as if one didn't have to babysit and tolerate being there till we could "get out". Each trip as they got older, was never boring for them because the park always "kept up" with us. We all could enjoy being there at the same time.
    So now they're going to "dumb down" Epcot and World Market and eliminate the glorious globe.
    The planners and visionaries don't seem to get their own park. There are are rides EVERYWHERE! You certainly don't need any in World Market. It was so refined and elegant, I'm assuming the reason is there isn't enough visitor base to justify it's mature existence. BIG MISTAKE! Don't screw it up.
    What about us now senior citizens? They have money and grandchildren. I'd continue to working on exploiting that! $'s
    I'll come!
    Thanks for putting up with my rant.

Ratatoie in France, good move; like the Imagination update, using a proven ride from Tokyo... The Energy pavilion...why can't it be something about energy again...does every New thing HAVE to be a thrill ride? EPCOT was created to inform, experiment, and experience the future... Horizons needs to come back, much better than what replaced it. What about World of Motion? Best animatronics ever...Test Track is just a ride, doesn't add to the Epcot experience. More dark rides a Epcot would be helpful to combat the heat and intense sunshine...How about a version of the People Mover at Epcot?

    INSIDE OUT DARK RIDE. They could just revive the Wonders of Life pavilion with Inside Out, but this sounds incredible. Also, I completely understand if no one wants to take seriously what I'm about to say, but I've had it confirmed by an Imagineer that the roller coaster will be Guardians of the Galaxy themed.

    Whhhaaaaattttttt??? Sounds decently cool. Where'd you get this information, my man?
    I do have to say I'll never get over the heartbreak of the Wonders of Life pavillion getting axed. The park *does* need more life, but is also *needs* to remain/be even *more* educational with health & world cultures moving forward! The importance of teaching families about these gets more dire EVERY single day!!

    That Vekoma "flying coaster" has been built in several incarnations at various Six Flags parks with high initial success that wanes very quickly. I hope for the sake of EPCOT lovers like me that Disney has the sense to stay away from gimmicky movie themed coasters that are only popular for short periods. Disney desperately needs a new CEO that actually cares about the parks division like Roy and Michael Eisner did.

    • @AMagicProduction
      @AMagicProduction  6 років тому

      Michael Eisner was a superior CEO in our opinion as well, Iger has overstayed his welcome.

      It's not the same system. And remember-- this is Disney, not SIx Flags. Unlike Six Flags, ride system will not be the attraction.

      AMagicProduction Iger only cares about fail. When I worked at the resort, I said "Hi, Bobby!" to him on the way to get a new assignment, and he more or less bolted to a backstage gate.
      Think he wants to avoid anything to do even with former in-laws of the founding family?

    I also wish they would add Greece because of the white buildings with the blue roofs they have. Plus, we already have Mexico and I feel like although Spain is different, it isn't like Completely different than anything we have seen.

    • @baileyspack3689

      I agree! I feel like Europe is (obviously) well represented. Mexico (although not technically South America) touches on its Latino culture. Morocco, although on the African continent, really has more of a Middle Eastern culture. Why not actually add an AFRICAN country (instead of those 2 Lane kiosks they currently have)? I think that would be more educational

    • @mattmatarante6272
      @mattmatarante6272 7 років тому

      ChrisandAlli Tomlinson well Africa was originally intended for epcot but they decided to build animal kingdom anyway so i feel that Africa isn't needed because it, in a way, already exists. Thats why i said Greece because although it is european, the architecture is completely unique to other countries

    Nice use of "Tapestry of Nations" theme. As to IllumiNations, it's become a bit long in the tooth, but still one of the best, just needs a few modifications to not become too outdated. I will miss the globe and have no clue what the new soundtrack will be, and speaking of Tapestry it's be nice to have another type of parade like that. Of all countries I think India should be added to World Showcase.

    Glad to see the grave stones finally leaving the entrance plaza. They always ruined the formerly beautiful entrance. Don't change the song from the fireworks. I don't mind the globe disappearing but don't change the great song. These are the best fireworks in all the parks.
    Why does everything have to be a themed Disney ride? Can't a pavilion just be a pavilion. Bring back the health pavilion with its two very good attraction, the one with the anxiety-ridden student and body wars.

    Love the background music...reminds me of the time I worked at EPCOT! :-)
    And while I realize that World Showcase needs an overhaul and new pavilions and attractions, it will be weird to see the place change even more than it already has since I left there. I will miss Reflections of Earth the way it is now, and has been. But new pavilions, and more people being able to experience what I experienced doing the International Program makes me happy! :-)
