Yes, but it'll take at least 20, if not 50 years I believe. Right now an elevator that tall would be impossible, or have enormous scaffolding all the way around so the elevator is basically in the middle. But we'd also have to consider meteors and satelites. It'd be very hard to do. And even with a huge scaffolding it'd probably still be shaky as hell up at the top.
@@paulgran7815 I guess I meant something similar to this, as in a quick ride up to space for dinner. Maybe I’m just hopeful but it would be so cool! @@ThatSoonerGuy I mean, you're right, it's gonna happen, all I'm saying is that with our current technology it's just not possible. But who knows how far we're gonna come in a few decades. Do they use optics to make the screen look like it is extremely far away? Sure would be great if that were the case! Also, if they made the screen so bright that it would illuminate the interior with a Blue Earth-Glow that would be even more realistic. If they could render sunrises and sunsets that would be really spectacular, but it would be difficult to get the realistic directional light to work and create shadows inside the whole restaurant, IMO.
They should have definitely made the elevator experience more realistic (like make a pressurization noise, then start shaking as it when up, and noises as it accelerations towards space, etc). Cool concept though.
The problem being, your guests just ate. So making some sort of a motion based ride out of the elevator, even if it was mild, might give some guests issues with nausea. Not something you would want to advertise a restaurant with. :)

Again I haven't been on this, but in my little dream world I would totally design this so that it's essentially similar to a regular metropolitan elevator and would have 50ft worth of travel to give forces to play with. Nothing requiring safety harnesses or anything, but just enough force to give positive and negative g-forces. Would work perfectly too, you would accelerate up, and then it would come back down to simulate decelerating forces. Then when you are traveling back down, it could very very slowly travel up so you wouldn't notice, and then come back down to simulate the descent. I would also add actual pneumatic air releases to simulate the cabin pressure and other cool sound effects, as well as have some kind of fan duct in the cabin to make you feel the slightest of slightest (more than safe) air pressure change on your ears. Just for a second as the door closes and sound effects go for the cabin pressure. As well as vibration of the floor and cabin to simulate cavitation from shifting in physical properties of the cabin as happens in different vehicles of public transportation.
