Here in the UK we are certainly used to receiving distant messages a vast amount of time after transmission. We have this thing called "second-class post".
Why does everyone think SETI has failed? It's like we drove to a national park, got out of our cars in the parking lot, and declared there are no animals in the area because we didn't see them as soon as we opened the door.
The universe is not a national park. We know animals abound on Earth, and therefore animals are very likely in a national park, so we can deduce just because we haven't seen the animals in a national park does not mean they are not there. We have no such assumption with the universe.
It sincerely makes me extremely happy when a new JMG drops. I wish he could upload himself to/with ANNA and produce dozens daily. Lol no we all appreciate how much work you put in JMG. Thanks as always!

I'm glad you're enjoying it, and thanks! Yes, the other full length novel is "The Salvagers". A space opera, nuts and bolts sci fi book I wrote in 2013. It's available on Amazon. I also am deep in writing the next book, which is likely to be out at the beginning of the year if all goes smoothly. It's called "The Necrosignature" and will delve far deeper into space than my previous books did.
@@JohnMichaelGodiermay I ask what your cut is from sales of both physical copies and digital copies are on Amazon? I hear Amazon takes a hefty percentage of readable media.
@ekothesilent9456 It's not so bad, still better royalties than a traditional publisher. For a printed book, after you subtract Amazon's printing costs and percentage, it comes out to something around 30 or so percent. On e-books, it's far better, it's 70 percent for original work, which is quite good. But there you have potential costs, such as if you want to hire a copy editor, and the cover art costs money, and so on. The down side is that Amazon does effectively no promotion, so you're on your own with social media. But it's getting to the point that traditional publishers don't do anywhere near as much promotion as they used to, and recommend that you promote yourself. So it's trade offs, but going with Amazon is still better as far as royalties than traditional publishing.
@@JohnMichaelGodier I know this isn’t a Q&A but are you or have you considered audio books? I would most certainly listen to just about any media you narrated, especially if it was science fiction/speculation that you wrote. Thanks for the reply and I wish your channel the best!
@ekothesilent9456 I don't mind Q&A, I enjoy chilling with the audience after dropping a video. Yes, Audiobooks are definitely on the agenda, but there I'm sort of thinking outside the box. Rather than charge for them, I may just put them on UA-cam in full free to the listener. Let google foot the bill, and give everyone really long content to consume and then put a commercial free version on Audible. I'm specifically interested in megavideos for the people that like to sleep to the content or listen while gaming, like 3 hours straight segments of the books with the whole stories posted. Obviously, I need to be the one narrating them, which is quite an undertaking and that's where it's going to take time. For comparison, a 16 minute script like this video is about 2700 words, and from start to finish takes 2 days to produce. A novel however is more along the lines of 100,000 words, so it would be over a month to get it right and it's been hard to find the time while maintaining this channel, Event Horizon and writing the new book. But it's something I do eventually want to do.
6:43 If we can make an educated guess regarding the possible Andromeda stars heading towards, or currently amongst, then we ought to be able to also see the opposite effect. I would love to know how many & which ones, of our stars that are careening towards Andromeda . It seems like a great premise for a sci-fi story. A lone planet (or entire solar system) traverses the vast intergalactic medium, headed directly towards an entirely new galaxy, yet remains inhabited the entire time. Their entire worldview revolves around being unaffiliated with any galaxy and even the experience of redshift leads them to believe the universe behaves much differently than our own. It's a pretty interesting topic (despite me knowing this is similar to the premise of many other films/novels.
