All I can say is thank you from the bottom of my heart for posting this. I recorded this on VHS in the early 80s, my football coach borrowed it to show the team and never gave it back to me. And I've never been able to find it again (Facenda narrated version, the original, and best). Today you are my hero, sir.
Watched this one in the 1980s & still remember it. This & other relevant NFL Films productions from history should be required viewing for today’s NFL teams. The running game is toughness & toughness can still win games today. I’m blown away that teams who have pass protection problems don’t use a big man to run the ball & then play action to make the defense honor it for a split second to buy time to pass when it’s needed.
I'm glad I watched O.J.Simpson Franco Harris Earl Campbell Walter Payton Tony Dorsett Wiliam Andrew John Riggins Larry Csonka 1970s it was a Great era of Great Running backs I saw OJ on channel NBC rush for over 2,000 yds in 1973.
He & Harry Kalas are the 2 greatest narrators at NFL films ever both narrating team highlights films John was great narrating super bowl highlights Harry was great narrating Inside the NFL highlights when the show was on HBO
OJ did that in a 14 game season. With passing game we have now that record should stand forever….with that said, if Aaron Judge gets 62 homers before 154 games this year, he should hold record for most homers in a season.
R.I.P O.J Simpson No matter what happened in your post football career, you will always be a legendary tailback. The Juice will always be the most famous Buffalo Bill and USC Trojan.
Vince Lombardi would never be able to recognize the game as it is played today. No one plays defense and no one runs the football well. He would be rolling in his grave as too would be John Fascenda
Seems like a knock at the AFL, who clearly didnt feel that way. From the looks of things today, Lombardi was clearly wrong and the style of play the league would adopt was the AFL's style of play.
John Facenda best NFL voice of all time.
No doubt💯
By far
Should be in HOF
Definitely. 🤟
John Facenda…….greatest NFL narrator ever. And it’s not even close.
The Voice of God. Remember watching these during the late 70's to the late 80's. Great stuff

Your coach sat around with his buddies drinking beer and eating nachos while watching your tape.

The 70s Best era for running backs
I saw OJ in a white Bronco
The narrator nailed it when talking about Walter Payton, "He'll live to rewrite the record books."
Man I loved watching NFL films in the 80s it always felt special right before the games…. Steve Sabol narrating too was awesome
Awesome!! Thank You 🙏 so much
great vid! thank you RIP Gayle
Thanks for this.
I believe they added 1983 segments with Dickerson in a later version of this … thank you! Had this VHS over 30 years ago
The narrator is John Facenda, known by NFL fans as “The Voice Of God”.
He was the best. Died in 1984, what a year eh George?

This is heaven
This is glorious! Thank you for sharing.

This is the original version of the “Best Ever Runners”.
“He was born Earl Christian Campbell, in a shack off country road 492 in Tyler, Texas. On the third carry of his pro career… he became a star.”
Had the vcr tape , GREAT!

Can someone please provide the song @ 8:47?
4:35. What a beast.
Good video
Ya I use to have this myself sweet!
All good 👍👍
I can't believe that they didn't include Tony Dorsett in this list. At the time this film was made, Dorsett was great.
Dorsett held the record for the most consecutive seasons with 1000 yards to start a career
RIP Kansas comet
I'm sending this to Lincoln Riley at USC. !Successful and champions teams...Run the Damn Ball. Football 101.
Sorry Mr Lombardi, but once they change the rules Football will not be a running game any more.
if not for the knee injury Gale would have been the greatest of all time.
You don't know Bo

Earl Cambell had one more good season left when this was made. No human can take that kind of pounding for long
