I'm a 46 year old American, and I was ecstatic to hear Dan's version because it reflected exactly how I feel deep in my soul. I love my country, and while I didn't serve (I was busy making 6 new Americans who I am bringing up the same way) I would gladly lay down my life for my country and I'd be more than happy to have all veterans "6" should it come to that. I think there was that Australian singer that was made to write her own version of the U.S anthem. The version she wrote was so culturally insensitive and racist that the stadium never paid her and she got hit with over $500,000 in lawsuits.

That was exceptionally awesome. As an American, so many artists sing our National Anthem who are Americans, and they put their own twist on it, by changing the melody, just enough that you say, "that's not how it's supposed to sound". You my friend were true to the song and the lyrics, and sang it with such passion and emotion. I was very impressed and very moved. Thank you.
Apparently some people were upset he sang this. There were complaints that folks in my country call ourselves "Americans" since the whole continent complex is the Americas. Folks forget that all these other awesome countries here in our hemisphere declared themselves free and shook off Europe quite a bit after U.S.A. did. We called ourselves the United States of America because we were the first to declare freedom from European overlords. If you are first you get your choice of names. :D Happily others were able to follow suit later.
As an American of the (Northern) USA, I love that he sang our national anthem. We have had so much to be thankful for here, and we are proud of the good things about our country and the good people of our land. Those of us who love our country are seeing and focusing on these good things and good people and what they have done and continue to do here every day. Those who hate our country focus on the bad leaders and the bad people who live here among the good. I am ashamed of the people who hate their own country and do evil things (they should go somewhere else to live if they hate it!) I think there was that Australian singer that was made to write her own version of the U.S anthem. The version she wrote was so culturally insensitive and racist that the stadium never paid her and she got hit with over $500,000 in lawsuits.

As an American, so many artists sing our National Anthem who are Americans, and they put their own twist on it, by changing the melody, just enough that you say, "that's not how it's supposed to sound". Apparently some people were upset he sang this. There were complaints that folks in my country call ourselves "Americans" since the whole continent complex is the Americas. Folks forget that all these other awesome countries here in our hemisphere declared themselves free and shook off Europe quite a bit after U.S.A. did. We called ourselves the United States of America because we were the first to declare freedom from European overlords. If you are first you get your choice of names. :D Happily others were able to follow suit later.
As an American of the (Northern) USA, I love that he sang our national anthem. We have had so much to be thankful for here, and we are proud of the good things about our country and the good people of our land. Those of us who love our country are seeing and focusing on these good things and good people and what they have done and continue to do here every day. Those who hate our country focus on the bad leaders and the bad people who live here among the good. I am ashamed of the people who hate their own country and do evil things (they should go somewhere else to live if they hate it!) And in answer to the protests, I say if the South Americans or any other country want Dan to sing their national anthems, too, then ask and maybe he will; but why begrudge us North Americans the good of hearing ours?! Can’t we be happy for each other? It’s called love and graciousness...
