@@vaibhavchaturvedi9826 Yup, great point. That only show how great the writers are. They didn't have to use cheap narrative help-lines, like the ones you mentioned, to tie it all together.
It’s a testament to the show’s quality and influence on the culture that the brilliant Jeremy Strong is here being interviewed by Anderson and also a way for us fans to somewhat recover from the tragedy of that series finale. Jeremy has an earnestness and intelligence about him that fascinates and impresses me, and his performance in this finale and in this series has been nothing short of incredible. And I love that he mentioned how the writing is paramount especially with the current strike. Going to miss this show.
Jeremy Strong is an absolutely phenomenal actor! I was team Kendall from the get go. He was Kendall Roy. The writing, the acting and the numerous locations where this show was filmed was just perfection. I hate that this superb show is over. I can’t wait to see what else Jeremy does in the future. A little too real 😂😂, seeing this made me breathe a sign of relief that he is okay because my boy Ken is heavy on one’s soul so I can only imagine how it feels for the man playing him .
@@candicesibanda3103 It was a really unique performance of controlled anguish and rage, the role of a lifetime. I'll definitely watch whatever he's in.
Jaremy Strong is such an incredibly generous human being, I look for him in films, now ehere I may have missed him in secondary roles as well as in staring roles. He's just so brilliant.
Look for him in The Judge - RDJ Jr plays the prodigal son turned brilliant attorney who comes back to save his father, a judge, who accidentally committed a crime. Vincent D'Onofrio is the oldest failed baseball playing brother , Jeremy is the second son. One of my favorites.
I truly think that this combination of actors, writers, directors, cinematographers, and so on, only come around maybe a few times in a decade to put together such a high piece of art/entertainment. honestly my favorite show of all time.
I love the fact that they all sound like their characters when speaking. Initially I thought all the "sort of"s and filler words were baked into the script but no thats really how they talk. The actor that plays Greg really says those awkward funny lines too. Just saw an interview with him. Why is this show ending? 😩
@@antimatterbones You stole my words. I second that idea. The best shows know when to stop. Here's some sacrilege for you: The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, and many other examples of "peak TV" could have been tighter, at least a season less.
@@SuperRobertoClemente Nah, the Sopranos was perfect. It could've even have done good with a season 7 instead of a long season 6 so we'd get five more episodes to flesh out SPOILERS The Phil Leotardo arc and the war with NY
@@Adski975 Let's face it, it could have gone on forever, and I would have watched it too. But the show was ultimately about philosophical issues, not a mob soap opera-- which is why it ended how it did. Tighter is always better, even though we get to live in that world less.
@@SuperRobertoClemente You're right, in principle. My heart says that we needed more episodes, but my brain says that the amount of episodes were sufficient. However, I contend that some things could've been fleshed out more, and those are the few critiques I have of the show. I think the war with New York was one or two episodes too short. Phil's turn from "compromise" to "no more, Butchie". Now, this is more of a wish and not a critique, but if these extra hours of Sopranos could've been allocated anywhere in the show I would've liked to see one more episode with Baccala sr, one with Richie and one with the season 5 NY civil war.
Jeremy Strong - I spotted him in The Big Short and was instantly of the opinion this was a scene stealer. So glad he got this amazing role and hopefully we'll see him in lots of more character studies. Wonderful actor, incredible screen presence and generous to the other actors allowing them to shine too. Perfect foil to Brian Cox who was also immense. Not one weak casting, all perfect.
I don’t think this movie got the fame it should’ve, but it’s called “Parkland”. Amazing movie. It’s a true story about Parkland Hospital in Dallas where JFK was taken immediately after being shot. Lots of famous actors in it but not until the end do you get Jeremy Strong who plays Lee Harvey Oswald. He’s.....kinda eerie in it. Just like playing Kendall he nails the part, as brief but instrumental as it is
About a decade ago, he was in a movie with Robert Downey Jr, Robert Duvall and Vincent D'Onofrio called The Judge, and I remember RDJ talking about what an incredible actor Jeremy was. It always struck me how RDJ went out of his was to talk about Jeremy, when he was surrounded by acting greats.
Likewise. I was aware that Succession was good and I started watching, knowing only the basic premise. Suddenly, Jeremy's first couple of scenes and I am like, "wait a minute, I know this guy". A googling later I was literally glued to the screen, one of my favs in Big Short (which I am never bored of rewatching), especially his rapport with Ryan Gosling, "so tell me, how are you effing us". Of course the truck freight revelation for me was the fact that Connor Roy is played by Ferris Bewller's Cameron.
I was struck by Anderson Cooper's comment on Roman looking at his martini, alone in a bar, that moment will be forever in my mind. The lighting was gorgeous, lit like a Renaissance painting, the look on Roman's face akin to the Mona Lisa, impossible to know what he thinking. Every moment of the series was brilliant, but the finale was one for the ages.
I took it the opposite way. I actually think Roman will be fine out of all of them. I think he was smiling cuz he's finished with all the bs, he was already checking out the last 2 episodes.
@@dec23 yes especially because when they were pitching TheHundred he complained that he was the only one trying to actually run a company instead of being consumed with the mind games and power tripping
jeremy's stare into the camera during his introduction was so intense!! and the way kendall speaks exactly like jeremy... fascinating that they did a take where he tries to jump, because i think we all thought that was going to be his end.
I love how in the end there was Kendall at downtown NY, completely shocked and devastated looking at the horizon and at the end the Statue of Liberty, meaning he is finally free from his father completelyfor the better or worse.
I hope Jeremy knew about and agreed to the scenes being played on air for him. He called it “brutal” to watch and you can see the heaviness in him as he reacts to it. For an actor who values immersion as much as Jeremy, I can’t imagine it’s a casual thing to watch himself back…
Really a modern day Greek tragedy written so impressively well. The performances are great the music is great etc but the real star of the show is Jesse armstrong who had an outstanding story to tell, told it in 4 seasons and wrapped it up beautifully.
I think the choice for the writers to have Kendall say “I’m the eldest BOY” is just so perfect. They all are just children playing dress up make-believe
This guy is amazing. Felt the emotion again just listening to him talk about it. He carry’s the weight of the character with him and I think he will do so for some time. Great interview Anderson. As ever.
Absolutely the most masterful work of my lifetime succession broke me down to exactly who I am. I know people will laugh and retort and I feel compassion for them. And hope. Brilliant brilliant work so extremely grateful to be part of the audience here.
You know the writing and the acting of this show is top tier. When you feel the pain of the last episode everytime you remember or see anything that reminds you of that.
"I'm the eldest boy" as a line is fantastic. It really illuminates how emotionally stunted Kendall is by the promise made by his father. In that moment he completely regresses to being a child in a suit. It's additionally insightful in how he has fetishised over this position of power for so long, yet failed to acknowledge that he is indeed not the eldest boy. Maybe this is because he, along with the other siblings, do not qualify Conner as an heir, but for me it could easily be an oversight by Kendall. So wrapped up in the fantasy of emulating his Dad he simply never thought about it any other way than his destiny.
I think you’re misinterpreting Kendall a little. Yet, good take. Just one point I’d add. If Logan had to choose, it would’ve been Kendall. This is also what the note Logan left behind had written on it. Crossed by family. Lost the company his father built due to siblings crossing him by way of their own emotional stupidity, coupled with rival corporation greed that played into his weak sibling’s weaknesses well. It’s very deep, this show will be missed.
If you watch the video between Jeremy and Anne Hathaway, you see how completely obsessed and invested in art and acting he is. A deep guy with a deep commitment to his craft. He's forever won me over.
I did not know the show up to a few weeks ago, don’t watch that much tv. But we recently got a new internet provider and we had access to Succession. Wife and I loved it and watched all the episodes within a couple of months. Simply great actors, texts, decor and the music is fantastic. I usually skip the intro but never for this show. Congratulations to everyone involved in this series.
This is so meta! Lol! I really loved the series and the cast. Each main and side character played their part so convincingly to the point where the lines appeared to be felt in the actors' bones. This was palpable. Also, I don't think anybody else but Jeremy could have played and portrayed Ken. I'm so glad Jeremy is receiving his roses and acknowledging the quality of the scenes.

Everytime I go back to this show I'm reminded that there is literally nothing else on television that can touch the bar it set for writing. It surpasses Breaking Bad, the best parts of GoT - all of it.
Totally agree with you, we've been spoiled. I was trying to watch Entourage last week and just kept thinking how bad the show is compared to Succession.
I have to admit that I feel sad that is over, simply in a selfish way. I do think it’s probably the best shows ever been on television, the twists and turns were always unexpected & always done flawlessly! Cheers to the cast, the writers, the directors - everyone involved in the show was simply PERFECT!
Genius actor/genius writers/directors/genius cast-all I can say is getting to be a BG Actor on the show that suddenly turned into getting a line with Jeremy…(even though they ended up not using it), having the memory of working on set with these brilliant humans was priceless to me. I grew up in a highly dysfunctional family/was the black sheep and raised without any love. I tried so hard for forever to get my family to like me or care & it never happened. I always felt isolated and alone-all my life. The ending scene with Jeremy sitting on the bench with nothing in his life that was meaningful, made me cry because I knew what it felt like to feel like a nothing…and he exuded that emotion perfectly. I so badly wanted him to have a win, but as in my own situation, it just didn’t happen. I suppose that’s why I had this ‘knowing’ of the pain you can’t explain to anyone who hasn’t experienced it. Bravo Kendall Roy, you were absolutely magnificent. (Ps. They still gave me my very 1st screen credit-thank you so much, that was my win💞)
The spit when he says "I'm the eldest boy". Incredible. Kieran and Sarah did equally incredibly as well. I would pay good money to watch this show again for the first time.
What a show that ending hit me so hard Jeremy Strong was unbelievable as Kendall Roy Shia reminded me of my sister that why I relate so much to Kendall
Jeremy Strong was phenomenal as Kendall Roy. Beautiful Shakespearean elements. The performances and writing in Succession were elite like only the pantheon of best shows of all-time.
The Ending is Perfect! The Ending Scene with Jeremy Strong (Kendall Roy) emotional take, it's what I expected to happen, since everyman has downfalls point or lowest point in their lives, like milestone of breaking point - and that's the lowest that he could have been and after you pass it, after he passes ii - you come out or you are reborn as stronger as ever and nothing's gonna stop you furthermore! Really Shakespearean! Absolutely one of the greatest shows: great and immersive writing, dialogues, great casting and great memorable performances by the actors. Thank you!
i've never felt truly DEVASTATED for a character in a TV show, quite like how I felt for Kendall at the end of the season - just such a gutwrenching, shocking, and brutal way for things to end for him, when he was sooooo, sooo close to getting what he always thought he needed.
Everyone has recognized that the way the actors talk and behave on this show is absolutely identical to their real characters and I believe all the credit goes to the director who gave the them the flexibility and freedom. And that's what made this show incredible
@@dylankeenan1590 because it's the worst job in the world. My hope is that he becomes Buddhist Kendall again, though I know Jesse and Jeremy think his path is a lot different.
Kendall looked towards the vast sea. A reminder of his wounds. The young boy that he killed. The news of his father’s death. The near demise of his own life in that pool. He contemplated whether he should meet his fate again, give in to the water and reap the consequences. For he had no purpose without Waystar Royco. The empire, the dream, his throne, that Logan Roy had promised him from a young boy. The waters stretched so far. The sunset glimmered on the deep blue sea, reflecting into his lost soulless eyes. It was a beautiful, memorable sight. This is the moment that would define the end. Kendall saw no other way, he prayed to end this cyclical agony. He had no plans to stitch the wounds, only to dilute them and be forgotten in the water. Kendall looked over his shoulder and discovered Colin’s concerned face. Had he figured out his plan? It would make sense, Kendall thought, for he was the only man who could truly see him. His grotesque facade, a man who escaped murder. Kendall thought of his father, the morning after the killing, his wet face pressed ever so tightly to his chest. He had never felt such warmth and comfort. He had feared and loved his father. Kendall shook his head and turned back to the sea. A teardrop slithered down his pasty cheeks. He extended his shaky legs and wobbled forwards, taking one small step at a time, looking like a lost child. The looming presence of Colin’s mighty shadow had once again reminded him of the man he had chased, worshipped and despised. That detest would never be comparable to the one he directed towards himself. His inability to live up to his father’s expectations. His life unravelled in less than a month. His purpose had died with Logan and his overthrown empire. He placed his pale hand on the railings to find balance. Kendall reflected on what would become of his legacy. He felt a tightness in his throat, the thought of it had made him emotional. The lost boy had truly no control over anything. The right leg lifted itself over the railings. Kendall Roy, no more than the spoilt son of his legendary father. The left leg struggles to meet the right. Kendall Roy, a drug addict. His hands grasped the railings behind him, the last strings from being cut loose into the abyss. Kendall Roy, a man who no longer recognised himself. He closed his eyes. The hands released and the limbs went loose. The wind rushed past his hair and the hard, flat water met his face. Kendall swallowed in the water like it was the medicine for his pain. His thoughts grew dark and drifted off to the kid trapped in the car. Such a terrifying and suffocating end. He remembered his brother Roman, a scared child that needed protecting. Shiv, his self-destructive sister, that he should have given more trust and honesty. Kendall was drowning in his failings. His vision ceased to exist. It was pitch black. Silence. Kendall had found solitude. A light at the end of the tunnel appeared. Perhaps this was a doorway, an escape. He edged closer to the gleaming prosperity, feeling the echoing of a heavy, thudding noise. He stepped through the light, meeting the frantic face of Colin. Water dribbled down from his mouth. His chest felt sore from the pounding of Colin’s fist. Kendall recalled back to the last conversation with his father. The words that still stung and haunted him, “I did my best, and whenever you fucked up, I cleaned up your shit… and I’m a bad person? Fuck off, kiddo.”
meh, I personally believe Kendall didn't kill the boy. It's an accident, it's not like he intended to do it. Plus, he tried to save the boy so he actually has decency
The series finale solidified Shiv as the worst character on the show: she destroyed her marriage, betrayed her brothers, and destroyed the family company.
My only issue is that even if Shiv did not want Kendall, her decision single handedly destroyed her family forever. Pick someone else thats not Kendall, thats much better than to fudge it all over her emotional distain for him. I still think her decision was petty, but to be fair Kendall did Icarus himself

Everything in this show is thought thru and so carefully put together. And all of that with almost no CGI, without any bombastic tricks - just genius writing, acting, camera work and music. Such a refreshing return to the basics in this time of sensory overload cinema and TV. One of the best show ever made!
and the best part.... there are no flashbacks in the entire show at all. just the conversations and events going on in continuation, just like life. this is why it feels so real
@@vaibhavchaturvedi9826 Yup, great point. That only show how great the writers are. They didn't have to use cheap narrative help-lines, like the ones you mentioned, to tie it all together.
Mad men?
The Wire?
if you want another show like that, try mr. robot
I’m a ride or die fan of his now!
From the car ride into the first episode Jeremy had me on team Kendall, he crushed that role. Tragic ending but I understood.
The world is ready for more of Jeremy Strong,he made Kendal look so real, brilliant acting.
Here's a vote for him to do something completely different for his next project.
@@SuperRobertoClementehe would be a great will navidson from house of leaves
My favorite show ever! Great writing, great acting... I can't say how much I will miss Succession. Wishing you all good luck.
I love him!!
Better to go out on top with a bang than to go out with a whimper past your welcome....
It could've even have done good with a season 7 instead of a long season 6 so we'd get five more episodes to flesh out
SPOILERS
The Phil Leotardo arc and the war with NY
Yes! Thank you to Adam McKay for bringing Jeremy Strong to this career-defining role. May many more follow.
Just like playing Kendall he nails the part, as brief but instrumental as it is
Same! I don't know what it was about his performance in The Big Short but it was so good! Maybe it's the weird way he holds cellphones! haha
That smile Kendall lets out after the swim .. It lit up the night. Heart-shattering 💀💀
I haven’t verified this but I read somewhere that it’s the drink Gerri gets
I took it the opposite way. I actually think Roman will be fine out of all of them. I think he was smiling cuz he's finished with all the bs, he was already checking out the last 2 episodes.
@@dec23 Agree. He can go back to his purposeless life of well-funded hedonism.
@@dec23 yes especially because when they were pitching TheHundred he complained that he was the only one trying to actually run a company instead of being consumed with the mind games and power tripping
Did Roman betraye Kendall like Shiv? I couldn't watch because it broke my heart.
I binged on this show in about one week, and then had to wait weekly for the final season. Succession is a true masterpiece. I will miss it so much.
jeremy's stare into the camera during his introduction was so intense!! and the way kendall speaks exactly like jeremy...
fascinating that they did a take where he tries to jump, because i think we all thought that was going to be his end.
We're all playing dress up make-believe but with higher stakes. That's what makes this so relatable.
Also it's revealing what the sibling relationshing is between them, considering the eldest boy is Connor, not Kendall.
This guy is amazing. Felt the emotion again just listening to him talk about it. He carry’s the weight of the character with him and I think he will do so for some time. Great interview Anderson. As ever.
"The writing it's everything". Touché. In my opinion, the most important oscar would be for writing.
And the best vocabulary by an actor goes to....Jeremy Strong. ❤
Jeremy really is such a gifted actor. Loved him in Succession as well as in The Big Short. A new favorite for sure
Go watch him in Armageddon Time. He’s great in that too.
Phenomenal show. What a journey.
Absolutely the most masterful work of my lifetime succession broke me down to exactly who I am. I know people will laugh and retort and I feel compassion for them. And hope. Brilliant brilliant work so extremely grateful to be part of the audience here.
This felt like an interview Kendall was giving to a media channel in the show.
Incredible actor. His performance truly blew me away in this role.
You can tell Anderson Cooper is a huge fan!
Why wouldn’t he be??
You know the writing and the acting of this show is top tier. When you feel the pain of the last episode everytime you remember or see anything that reminds you of that.
I think Jeremy deserves awards for Kendall, his character put the audience through every single emotion many times.
Agree.
Jeremy Strong is such a star. He nailed this role. Sad the show is over. Best ever.
Died laughing at the smash cut to him staring dead-eyed at the camera at 0:37
😭😭😭
Still in character, well said Ken!
I wanted you to win from the beginning to the end, Jeremy. I want you to win so badly in the end, Kendall. And I am devastated at the end. 💔
Writers are so important. Glad Jeremy Strong stated the importance of them
Such an incredible show. Thank you all involved
Meta??

This whole show just gives me chills... insanely amazing, beautiful writing and acting.. Gave me a way greater appreciation for truly amazing writing and acting. Such an art .. so hard to execute. I am stunned
Have you tried the Sopranos and The Wire? Definitely two shows that stick with you long after you watching
I have to admit that I feel sad that is over, simply in a selfish way.
I do think it’s probably the best shows ever been on television, the twists and turns were always unexpected & always done flawlessly! Cheers to the cast, the writers, the directors - everyone involved in the show was simply PERFECT!
That guy takes himself as serious in real life as on the screen.
I would pay good money to watch this show again for the first time.
the writing is literally EVERYTHING.
Not much a tv show guy, came across the Succession series two weeks ago, finished the entire 4 season in two weeks!, what a masterpiece.

I love it that he addresses the writer's strike and gives them a shoutout.
There you have it. The world's greatest actor conducting one of the greatest interviews of the type.
What a show that ending hit me so hard Jeremy Strong was unbelievable as Kendall Roy Shia reminded me of my sister that why I relate so much to Kendall
Haha thats harsh about your sister you better hope shes not reading this 😂
Can’t remember the last time I yelled at a tv screen. Thank you 🙏 sincerely loved your character in the show. Incredible.
I swear that’s Kendall doing an interview with CNN
" it's about what goes on underneath " if ever a statement, that's a true one. Sibling rivalry dynamics and all the subtle put downs along the way.
They all deserve an Emmy !
Great ensemble cast ❤
This guy made the show, the ending was so hard to accept to the point where i wish I didn't watch the show. He made the show great - Thank you JS
Why it didn’t get more seasons is beyond me. A lot of people really liked this series. Bring it back
the show being defined as a tragedy at the end was a twist in itself, phenomenal writing.
I love how much he cares about his craft. It's everything.

Great interview Anderson! I could feel you feeling!
This is a gorgeous comment
meh, I personally believe Kendall didn't kill the boy. It's an accident, it's not like he intended to do it. Plus, he tried to save the boy so he actually has decency
Kendall tried to kill himself, but even failed at that, and also because of Logan (his father indirectly, through Colin, stopped that)
He is just like in the show. Almost like he is still acting
Good on Jeremy for still raising the Writers Strike at the end there
I appreciate that a lot of Kendall's manerisms and ums come directly from Jeremy Strong.
The series finale solidified Shiv as the worst character on the show: she destroyed her marriage, betrayed her brothers, and destroyed the family company.
Finally someone that sees it.
Yup. She’s the closest to her father in character.
Your right there. And then finally killed the spirit of her older brother.
@@andrewashmore8000 Along with putting herself in a miserable marriage. What an idiot!
Sad and So true.
Beautiful interview 😢 almost cried
My only issue is that even if Shiv did not want Kendall, her decision single handedly destroyed her family forever. Pick someone else thats not Kendall, thats much better than to fudge it all over her emotional distain for him. I still think her decision was petty, but to be fair Kendall did Icarus himself
I have been a Jeremy fan since the Big Short days. He did an amazing job in Succession. However, as he said all credits go to the writers. Phenomenal job guys!
