A similar story he has told on one of his own videos is how a universal greebly was used on a very small scale model of a city, but then a much larger version was made for other shots, and so there's a building with a giant universal greebly taking up almost all of a side of the building 😂

One interesting thing about Little Shop of Horrors which had a giant animated character, animated by a bunch of puppeteers, shot by an undercranked camera forcing actors having to act at half speed.
That movie was shot on the sound stage, next to Aliens which featured a giant Queen alien. A giant animated character, animated by a bunch of puppeteers, shot by an undercranked camera forcing actors having to act at half speed.
Also, reputedly, there was an incident involving live ammo from Aliens damaging the Little Shop of Horrors set.

Yes - but it's not just Adam. Oh and it's not just the special effects. I love the stunt-people as well.
Penny just dropped with me that whilst "corridor crew" is/was notionally about the CGI that they could do - they now provide a great 'frame' to let experts in all the interesting areas talk about all the disciplines that it takes to put a film on a screen.
Makes sense that they're focussing on the overlap with that they've done - but just realizing how many other topics there are (sound design, costumes, prosthetics, cinematography, production on a budget, handling a sequel, etc etc)
Basically - we all know 'the good films' - but there must be thousands of great stories to be told about great things in all those bad films.
I'm just thinking of all those bad films, that had great DVD extras.

      @ex0duzz 2 роки тому +20

That's what one would assume, but after watching the video i came to a different conclusion than you. Both seemed a bit starstruck, but wren seemed less energetic and more shy than his usual on screen self, while Sam was in his element and seemed to be enjoying it, even getting emotional and talking freely and confidently. Talking about memes or whatever the word for mouth shape is.. But Adam seemed to be into it also as a fellow nerd geek movie fan and fellow creator, since it fits in nicely with Adams experience and knowledge of real life puppetry and how real puppets mouth move.
Great episode, one of the best yet. Wish Adam talked more about TMNT 2 the movie. That had some of the best puppets and suits and monsters. Or at least as I remembered it. They looked mean and threatening, even grotesque. Reminded me of like gremlins or some classic 80s horror movie in that vein.

It's great to see Jim Henson getting some well-deserved recognition here. You will never see puppeteering at that level again. Sure new tech makes that style obsolete, but the amount of people he had working as one organism is one of the most underrated visual achievements in the history of film and media.
He was big into CGI too. The owl from 1986's Labyrinth being the first fully realized CGI 3D character model in movie history. Henson actually embraced new tech and was pushing CG boundaries before his sudden and seismic death in 1991.

It's a criminally under-rated and misunderstood film that only a European (no offence intended, American friends!) could have done - hence Dutchman, Paul Verhoven. The slow-motion destruction of the orbiting space craft by bug plasma, like some grotesque dance, is quite astonishing to watch, let alone anything else, and the satire razor sharp. In a sense, you could almost compare Starship Troopers with The Fifth Element, which is completely daft, but visually stunning.

The most beautiful "scale" shot I ever saw was in the first star trek film. It's a shot where the Enterprise is doing a close flyby of the alien ship called "V'ger".
Alone, this shot is great, but when you take it in the context of earlier shots in the film, it truly becomes amazing.
Early in the film, you see the Enterprise in drydock and it's this huge, imposing beast of a ship, truly beautiful, especially with the little shuttles, work craft and guys in space suits buzzing around her. Keep that in mind.
In the shot with V'ger later in the film, you see the entire frame is taken up by V'gers hull and there's this tiny speck which, if you look closely, you can make out as being the Enterprise!
Oh, and the bit of V'ger you can see in the frame isn't the whole ship, it's just one tiny part of V'ger! The scale was truly immense.
Heck, that film was such a beautifully shot thing. So many great shots.
