Much better video than most Getrag top end rebuilds. I just did mine thanks to your video. My issue was I couldn't shift into 5th and reverse. Found the roll pin for that shift fork gate came out. When I disassembled the skinny cross pin from 3/4 was broken. Can't wait to get the first gen back on the road!
solid vid, makes me a lot more confident in rebuilding mine. hoping with the body lift, the stub pulled, and the cross member dropped I'll be able to pull the top cover without removing the transmission from the truck.
My getrag has problems shifting into other gears once shifting from out of fifth any other time shifts fine just ordered top plate rebuild kit as trans gears and synchronizers are fresh hoping this helps
I have a question on my shifter its really stuck and there is no broken spring I ordered the rebuilt kit to do the rebuild like you did is there anything thing else i need to look for so those three shaft would move smoothly ?
I have a 89 and it won’t go into 1-3-5. Would that be a role pin trying to come out or do I need to get the rebuild kit with new springs and dent balls ?
Just watched your video and I have a problem with it 5th and Rev. The shifter keeps jumping out of Rev. Shift gate hanging up what is the problem. Help!!!!
@@andreweverett6925 your going to have to at least the 5-r shaft and to get to it but you could do it in theory but the detents being out of whack could be an issue
My get rag 360 will get stuck in any gear I can get it back in neutral fine with a screwdriver and it goes in every gear fine but the shifter has ton of slop would that be my problem. When I say a lot the shift lever will hit the dash before going into third gear
How does the actual shift stub look? Seeing as you have a ton of play, I would look there also check on the two screws in the side that hold it in square you may have sheared on and it’s not moving squarely in the shift tower
@@garage_bilt_diesels181 just now seeing your reply but I matched my shift stub up with one from a hood shifting get rag used a caliber and they are the same. My problem is my 1&2 shift rail is loose and my 5&R is loose. What is the cause of that ?
@@garage_bilt_diesels181 I can use a screwdriver and move the gates on both of those and it moves the whole rail so that is why it is getting stuck because the stub can’t reach the gates
@@gagedavis3890 the detents in the shift rail towards the front could have excessive play in them… I grenaded a 2nd getrag in 2 months and went to an nv4500

Sorry I’ve been away a while, but yes it is, the spring will only come out the bottom unfortunately

You could have worn shift forks, or one of your roll pins could have walked out and could be binding

Without seeing the inside, it sounds like you have a worn out synchro once it clicks in it should stay
What size punch did you use to take remove the roll pins?
I would have to look, but if I remember correctly it was an 1/8” or 3/16”
Would I be able to replace just my 3-4 fork?

I changed the oil no metal flakes it looked good

Should use a magnet to put in those chubby guys for the detent
