      I think the biggest problem is they front loaded the launch with awesome titles then left too much of a gap. It’s been less than a year so I believe we will see more soon. Seems they leave showcases for first party stuff instead of state of plays. We haven’t heard too much over the months on what they are doing in general even with ps5. There are many first party studios and we don’t know what they are up to. Asobi as an example is working on something but we have no clue what. VR takes patience.

      Yes, I agree. Still prefer PSVR2 when it comes to gaming over Oculus, but I love on Oculus that there is so much more than gaming; UA-cam vr, Oculus tv, Watching a concert in Horizon, Web browsing and watching VR videos on specialty websites, watching 3d movies, learning how to DJ.... Should have more entertainment options and experiences on PSVR2. And more games that aren't first person shooters. The technology is there but Playstation is doing verry little with it.

    • @xander396
      @xander396 6 місяців тому +2

      @@grahamkelly8662 Personal opinion, standalone Quest 3 is still better than PSVR2 because of the amount of content and the consistency of that stream of content. The Quest platform gets at least a handful of releases every single month where PSVR2 it seems like it's a headline every time they get one game. Meta also acquired multiple studios and has shown a lot of potential with their first party titles, and this is the area where Sony does not even try. You could argue that the graphics for PSVR2 are better than Quest 3 but that is honestly negligible with most VR games that come out, with the exception of AAA titles that almost never happen. Go with the Quest 3, it is an awesome piece of hardware.

  • @GreyMatterShades
    @GreyMatterShades 6 місяців тому +8

    A couple things... first of all, the only game Sony showed was Helldivers 2, because it comes out next week (and that's not a first-party title, Sony's just publishing it). There were lots of rumors they'd show Concord, but they didn't. Typically Sony doesn't show off their first-party games at State of Play events, they save them for showcases.
    Second of all, PSVR 1 didn't get Astrobot for 2 years. Their launch window lineup was maybe a bit more diverse than PSVR 2 in terms of the bigger budget titles, but it was also pretty heavily skewed toward horror, with Until Dawn Rush of Blood, Here They Lie, and Resident Evil 7 being some of the biggest early titles (and other horror titles in the mix like Weeping Dolls, The Brookhaven Experiment, and Dying Reborn). I agree that a more diverse slate of bigger releases would be great. I was hoping for an Ace Combat 8 reveal as a full hybrid title, but it seems like Bandai-Namco isn't ready to announce it yet.
    I agree that this SoP wasn't the absolute slam dunk PSVR 2 needs, but it was good. I wasn't expecting first-party games. I was hoping for more than 2 games, but both the ones they showed looked pretty great. And I'll disagree that games like Metro and Legendary Tales aren't really selling points for PSVR 2. Yes they're both coming to PC, and Metro is coming to Quest, but the PSVR 2 versions look like they'll be close to parity with the PC versions, and PSVR 2 is far more accessible than PC VR for most people. So the best balance between value and performance is clearly the PSVR 2 for both titles (unless the Quest 3 version of Metro looks miraculously good like Red Matter 2 on Quest 2).
    I definitely think 2024 is a make-or-break year for PSVR 2, and Sony needs to show more support for it, but I don't understand the negative take around this particular event. I'll be far more concerned if Sony has a showcase somewhere from March to May and PSVR 2 doesn't have a big showing there.

      Towards the end of this video matteo311 mentioned how he is done with sony not only cuz of this SoP, but also how constantly sony PR person didn't take matteo311 seriously , and how generally speaking Game studios have little interest in making / porting games for psvr2 (I personally some times work with Chinese vr studios , I have the same opinion as matteo311). VR gaming needs constant publishing , instead of , like , giving you 2-3 'AAA' titles each year. Cuz even AAA titles in VR can keep you interested for like , 1 week ? Maximum . The quest library at the moment is the only working situation . PSVR2 doesn't have enough games to keep most users busy 24/ 7 , and steamvr has a too long list of VR demos made by 1 solo dev who works in his garage .

    You are being unrealistic if you expect all of PlayStation studios to work on VR games. Developing a AAA first-party VR game takes around 3-4 years. Currently, only two studios, FireSprite and Team Asobi, are dedicated to making VR games. However, we are still getting high-quality PS VR 2 games every month.

      The frustration is Sony knows they don't have the money to throw in a pit for those 7 games - what 10 million or more per game? • @GreyMatterShades
      @GreyMatterShades 6 місяців тому +3

      @@trauma50disaster1 If Sony wasn't willing to take a loss on making VR games, they never should have released a headset. PSVR 2 will not sell without great games, and those great games are likely to require budgets larger than they can recoup. It's called a loss leader. You sell something for a loss (in this case a game, and even possibly the headset), knowing that by doing so you could make a profit later. In this case, the profit would be from other game sales (first and third party), having expanded the PSVR 2 player base by releasing system-selling software.
      If Sony truly has cold feet after a single round of two titles (one of which was a port), then they really didn't have the commitment that the headset needed from the start, and again, they should've have released it.

In one your videos you claimed sales were going bad seeing Amazon sales. As far as i know in Europe you can only buy psvr2 by Sony them selves. In the Netherlands and Germany cant find it on Amazon itself or shops.
    You start out this video that Metro isn t exclusive. That has to do with the vr industry as a whole. Quest, pvcr, psvr2, sales aren t that great. We need each other to keep vr alive. Stop bashing platforms. Start bashing when vr is big. Now it is al about preferences.
    I do agree that certain developers won t develop for psvr2. But that is because the guys at quality control are asses. They complained at framedrops during a loading screens, but accept some Carnage broken games. As for state of play, during psvr1 showcases did not show much either. I do agree on that Sony should be more open. Give us some more release dates, announcements, a glimpse of the future. Then people can make up there minds if they should by psvr2. Compare psvr2 exclusives with quest games in last 12 months and there is no competition. What you are constantly criticizing is marketing and communication and if you saw sony state of play, there were 0 1st party studios in it. But yet there was two great psvr2 announcements. What that tells us is sony in general is staying quiet at the moment. For ps5 it is not as worrying as it is still doing well. For psvr2 it looks bad as the platform is yet to grow. We don't know what the actual projects the rest of Meta's studios are working on but we know that they are and hopefully some will be announced this year. I don't regret buying my psvr2. and I Love AAA graphics with cinematic stories. however if forced to pick. I would pick a quest 3 with the elite battery strap (and carry case) for most people.

      @@xXYannuschXx I totally agree with that. I think Sony is starting to realize how unsustainable their business model is getting too. I mean, it's possible that they'll wind up with ONE new game from Naughty Dog for this ENTIRE GENERATION. Their AAA games are costing too much and taking too long. The only reason they've been able to get away with it so far is that they haven't had a total flop, and they're plugging the holes in their release schedule with third-party partnerships.
      And at the end of the day, people would probably be fine with games that didn't look quite as good (but played great), and weren't quite as long. Or they could release more modest length games, then bolster them with multiple expansions. Like if Ghost of Tsushima was half the length (and a lower price), then got multiple paid expansions like Iki Island. It'd keep up a better release cadence, and Sony could focus post-release resources on the games which performed best.

Only reason I got the VR1 was because I already had a PS4. But I've always been jealous of Quest2 players and PCVR players because they get all the cool games. Not to mention thumbsticks. LoL
      I'm a happy Quest 3 owner now and looking into an affordable gaming PC next.

    The original psvr was extraordinarily good at introducing a typical console gamer into vr. When I first got it, shortly after release, I didn't have the move controllers, but most games was made for the ps4 controller, so it really felt like gateway drug into vr with the ps4 gamer in mind 😆.
    I don't see psvr2 doing any of that. They would come a long way if they just ported over all the old psvr games with slightly updated textures and resolution. Then they could release some of their exclusives with "vr support". Those things would still be really lazy and a bad excuse for releasing a brand new hmd, but it would at least give people some hope that they care, and they would give their customers something to do.

    I don't have a PlayStation so I don't have a dog in the hunt, but I have been saying this for a long time with Quest is that VR development is hard and takes time. However, this is a problem with a closed eco system. This will be an issue for Apple as well. Quest may not be the best headset 2 or 3, but there is an edge with its ability to do PCVR, it has its own store and you can sidequest games and apps as well. Meta also has been good with continuous and regular updates for the headset and finally produced games like Assassin's Creed and Asgard's Wraith II. I also have a bunch of other games like Demeo, Dungeons of Eternity, and Beat Saber just to name a few that continue to develop their original game and add content.

    Psvr was my first hmd back in 2017. The only other option then was pcvr. I had a ps4 and my CP wasn't amazing, so it was an easy choice. Console vs pc split gamers apart with different preferences, and early vr was following that pattern. It almost seems like Sony completely missed the fact that both those vr platform were eaten up by the quest platform, and they just thought they could make a lazy psvr2 release, reel in all the console/vr fans and then it's just business as usual. But, it seems like a lot of people who fell in love with vr thanks to psvr, moved on a few years later to quest 2, because you could suddenly play both standalone and wireless pcvr. Those who wasn't completely convinced, moved on from vr entirely.
    So, what's left is pretty much a nonexistent market of a few people who already own a ps5, loves vr and doesn't own a hmd. Now, of I put myself in that position, I still can't see a reason to buy a wired hmd with fresnel lenses, outdated specs and with a tiny games library that won't even include the 40+ games I already bought on psvr back in the day. A quest 3 seems like a much better investment on all fronts 🤷‍♂️.

    If you look at the word in mainstream gaming news, everyone feels the same way about Sony overall. It’s definitely not just VR, they have been really quiet. They don’t speak or promote shit anymore. I seen one tweet regarding the state of play as “it seems like Sony is just calling it in now, no hype, no promotion”. By comparison it sucks because Meta nothing but promote VR so we expect the same amount of Sony but Jim Ryan set in an interview that they don’t even have to promote their products anymore because they just sell. If VR didn’t matter to them, they would stop showing it on the big stage. I think the events that will have exclusives are still to come. Sony has numerous gaming events a year, Meta only has one and they condense it all down into one stellar event. If we got one Sony VR Event last year and it was loaded with all of the exclusives we got last year I think the perception would be different. Considering the fact that you have to buy a PlayStation 5, and that it’s doing better than its predecessor which was the second best selling headset ever said that it’s doing pretty good. It was never going to do Quest numbers. I failed to agree with the idea that it’s failing to deliver games. While I always seem to be on the side of Sony here, I do agree that Meta Is a way safer platform to be on and I even think that it’s a better headset for new VR users. The pancake lenses are so crystal clear. I just don’t see what you see. If you compare it to what Meta has delivered in the past year, I don’t understand how people aren’t saying the same thing about Meta. The only difference is that Meta truly gives a shit and it shows. But even though Sonys promotion is shit, it doesn’t take away from the fact that we got some of the best VR games of all time on the PSVR2. RE4, Village, GT7, Vertigo 2 on PC, Asgards Wrath 2 and even AC Nexus to some extent all rank among the best VR games we’ve ever seen. I failed to see how people are complaining about this considering the lack of support we’ve seen in the VR industry since 2020

      Flat screen will always work much better than the same game in VR. At some point, graphics, processing and storage on a VR set might be good enough to match what we have now in flat screen. When you get into VR, having the ability to move a view by turning your head is very cool, though. Having controllers that are closer to the real world than a game controller is also cool. I like flat-screen and VR games for different reasons. VR is much more immersive, even if the graphics aren't quite as good.

    The state of play was great, granted I love flat top games AND VR games. I enjoy a multitude of games. My guess as to how sony is going to handle the PSVR 2. I can't imagine them investing the time and money to create the headset and not support it enough. Only issue is that with their first party developers I also couldn't imagine sony having them create VR titles considering majority of gamers are flat top players. Hopefully Sony has some games in the works, still hoping for an open world RPG VR game on the ps5. Loving Asgards Wrath 2 but visually would still love to play a game with some better graphical fidelity

    Sony didn't even bother to add two extra buttons on each controller and write a driver to map the inputs so you could play PSVR1 games on PSVR2, do you really think they will make a lot of exclusives which takes considerably more money and effort?
    At this point if you want to play VR just get a good PC or get a Quest as majority of PSVR2 games are bad Quest ports anyways.

    VR Developers have it hard enough just making VR games. Making a PSVR2 game requires developing with a PC HMD that Sony doesn't provide, that alone is ridiculous, you'd think they would as part of the platform tooling recognise that the PSVR2 needs a PC Driver. The certification process and understanding the Sony Platform is a nightmare and consumes so much time that I think most developers that are not being subsidised don't see the value in investing in it. Certainly not if you have any prior experience with the cert process and if you've been paying attention to hardware sales numbers.
