Dear GB , the licence fee isn’t mandatory, you can opt out of it as long as you don’t watch or record live tv programs You do not need a licence to own a tv and you don’t go to jail for not buying a tv licence , in principle you can be jailed for failing to pay a fine imposed for committing the offence of watching or recording live tv without a licence , that is if you are dumb enough to admit to doing so to one of their goons TV licence inspectors ( goons ) are simply salespeople with no more power or authority than someone’s dog In general do not engage with them or give them any personal information , but it’s fine to tell them to piss off from your front door If you don’t watch or record live tv , then I would definitely send them a letter advising that you do not require a licence and that you have also withdrawn their implied right of access to your property You do not have to give your name , just “ the legal occupier “ is enough This will stop all letters and visits for a couple of years Then just repeat Simple 👍

How can he say oh it's just a coffee a week, do one I will spend my money how I like not because BBC and Capita threaten me. I stopped paying in 2019 that's about £650 saved, I can have a lot of coffees for that mate and get Netflix and Prime. What exactly am I missing out on by not watching Live TV?
The BBC is profligate with its expenditure, they seriously overpay mediocre presenters, if you are a BBC celebrity member they will drag you into rich pay days like making up audiences in shows, sports events etc, and evening programs are not worth watching. Programs like Spring Watch use enourmouse amounts of resource, and how do we know if they are using library recordings, there is rarely co-ordination between narrator and film.

I fully understand what other media companies charge, but I see for the future is you will pay for what you watch a bit like your mobile phone. Forcing everyone to pay or face prison for a tv licence wether they need one or not or watch the bbc or not is morally wrong, as it then just becomes another tax by stealth. In France instead of a license, they just take the money with your local tax, it is much simpler. So you pay whether you use it or not. Completely fair.
