I am a pensioners, just when I became 75 they changed the rules. (Not one of your rich pensioners).
It's crazy! I watch live rugby on BT sport, on my PC. I am legally required to have a TV license to do this. So I pay a subscription (with ads) to BT and also have to pay the BBC. I go nowhere near terrestrial or satellite broadcasts.
Use a UK VPN and don't worry about paying the fee
No one needs to pay it and no one can be forced to pay it - it’s literally that simple
If you’re paying for it, cancel it, refuse any offers of 3rd party cold callers (extortionists) and if any turn up say “not today thanks” and close the door

It means you can't watch any other channel though like itv , people are upset because they are being forced to pay for something that no longer represents them and their views

He goes on about sky sports, Netflix, Disney+, TNT SPORTS etc. Difference is, people actually watch those things, people are hardly watching the BBC anymore

For me the t.v. License can go up to £ 1,000, If people are daft enough to pay it they get what they deserve 😊 me ? I don’t pay it so I’m not bothered what the useless BBC charge. 😊.

If you don't watch live TV don't need to have a license. Just watch catch up. As long as you keep away from anything to do with the BBC.

This guest is a fool. You don't go to jail for not paying the fee, you go to jail if you don't pay the fine. He is being thoroughly disingenuous. As for his 'solution' he wants me to be forced to pay for an organisation that I despise, doesn't provide what I want and never will. I don't want a national broadcaster. Time for it to stand on its own two feet or fail. I'm perfectly happy with the latter.
Nadine it was obvious to me that he was justifying his place in the BBC gravy train. We don't need a national broadcaster as all channels show government propaganda. BBC should have the same format as ITV X, watch free with ads or ad free with a subscription.

Sadly as unfair as the current system is of funding the BBC, at least 400,000 people that don't watch Live TV Broadcasts or use BBC iPlayer can opt out by not paying this forced upon tax for a Gov Propaganda machine (It is not all bad). The start of the main problem is that the TV License hides the BBC's funding under the words of "TV License" rather than "BBC License" so requiring in the old days of anyone that owned a TV to pay for the TV License fee but this was changed to "Watching Live TV Broadcasts on any device" when it should have been changed to consuming Live BBC content on any Device not all Live TV Broadcasts this would have allowed for watching ITV, Sky, Virgin and BT to be consumed without paying for a BBC License and a person who chose to include BBC content then they should pay the monthly fee to that supplier of the service to be forwarded onto the BBC but not be forced to include BBC as it is now so forcing the user to pay for a TV License even if they never watch BBC. Yes I am sure many people would then not subscribe to paying the BBC but the BBC could then show adverts to mitigate this. If the BBC fails to get enough funding for itself maybe it should shrink its workforce also since the UK Gov uses the BBC as it propaganda machine so it should also pay some of the funding directly rather than it be wholly paid for by the British Public.
My mortgage has gone up £380 a month because of this government my fuel bills have tripled foods gone up 25% live in standards have fallen massively and I’m supposed to get upset about £12 a year license fee

Yes you do - if you watch Ch 4, Ch 5, ITV, Sky etc etc. you have, by law, to have a license even if you don't watch the BBC, and thats whats wrong with it - I'm amazed you don't know that!

It does not matter wether you are a millionaire or a pauper the cost of a licence should be the same, this is a service all the other media formats don't have their service charge based on wealth.
But it would be totally unfair not have a opt out the BBC have got to keep up with the times the majority of people up to 40 years old don't use it and the others are dwindling in numbers.
It is not a tax and should not be treated as one, subscription /advert financed is the fair way.

Its simple, have a two tiered system. You have a basic BBC which is free to air but with adverts but if you want the premium content then you have to pay a subscription fee like you do for other providers. If the BBC really want to make more money then they can open up the iplayer to international markets as i am sure that they would get much interest as there is some good content on there plus lots of classic shows. It works fine for the likes of ITVX and im sure itll work for the BBC as well
