Having little to do with the music itself: Sean, your obvious pleasure, coupled with your equally obvious talent, tends to take the edge off of a rough morning and ease the after-effects of a rough week. Thank you!
I'm glad that it can be a positive thing for you. You're welcome and thanks for the message.
I’m choir sang this so very long ago I am now 63 and we sang this in junior high. I have never forgotten it. So glad to find it and hear it again
Lear ned this song in grade school back in yhe early '60s. Only song I still remember!
I like this version a lot, and it comes over well, though there are other texts. Nice!
Loved this as a kid and it's still one of my favourites.
A classic with staying power.
It was maybe a year and a half to two years ago I discovered this channel, and I come back to listen periodically, and every time the shanty quite nearly gives me a shantyrection. :D
A great version of a great song. Thank you!
Thanks and you're welcome!
I love how you explain the terminology as well
These little tidbits are so interesting, never knew I could learn so much in only 2 minutes.
I'm glad you like them.
Always a treat to see a new shanty video!
Keep up the amazing work!
I'm glad you like them. There's lots more to come.
I love this channel, always makes my day better ♥️
Thanks D. I'm glad to hear that.
super!!!
Thanks!
I love these just the shanties
Good. I'm glad there's a format for everyone.
Thanks to you this shanty quickly became my favorite. I sing it to myself all the time at work. Its so good
That's great! I love to hear about people singing these songs.
Wow i think this is my favourite performance of this song
You're very kind to say so.
I think I’ve got these right, but here’s the lyrics!
There were two lofty ships
from old England they did sail
Blow high! Blow low! And so sailed we!
And one was the prince of Luther
And the other the prince of Wales
Sailing down along the coast of High Barbary
Aloft there, Aloft the old bosun he did say
Blow high! Blow low! And so sailed we!
Look ahead and a stern to the weather and the lee
Sailing down along the coast of High Barbary
Oh there’s nought to the stern and there’s nought to the lee
Blow high! Blow low! And so sailed we!
There is a ship to windward and she’s sailing fast and free
Sailing down along the coast of High Barbary
Oh hail her oh hail her our captain he did say,
Blow high! Blow low! And so sailed we!
Are you a man of war or a privateer to me
Sailing down along the coast of High Barbary
I’m not a man of war nor a privateer said he
Blow high! Blow low! And so sailed we!
But I’m a salty pirate and I’m lookin’ for my fee
Sailing down along the coast of High Barbary
For broadside, for broadside, a long time we lay
Blow high! Blow low! And so sailed we!
Til at last the prince of Luther shot the pirates mast away
Sailing down along the coast of High Barbary
Oh quarter oh quarter the pirates they did cry
Blow high! Blow low! And so sailed we!
But the quarter that we gave them was to sink to the bottom and die
Sailing down along the coast of High Barbary
Sailing down along the coast of High Barbary
Beautiful.
Thanks D.
Beautiful. Thanks!
Thanks and you're welcome.
I love the little added points of information - I'm learning a surprising amount! The singing is, as always, brilliant.
Thanks AS. I hope you're singing along as well.
@@SeanDagher Yess. Got to get everyone in for the chorus!
This is one of my favs
Mine too.
Thanks seán for only using voice a crew and not using music I like shanties for the voice
Can someone deliver me pirate the lyrics of this version ? Plz 😅
What accent did you sing in on Black Flag? Cuz I was surprised to hear you had a North American(Canada) accent. Arguably the Canadian and American accents might not have even existed quite yet in that time.
Is there any chance you might do "Robin Hood and the Peddlar" one day? It's not a shanty, so doesn't really fit with the format of the channel but it's an amazing song (and yes, I heard it in that damned game everyone keeps talking about, I freely admit it). There's a recording by Barry Dransfield up on youtube and it's really good, but it would be amazing to hear the whole thing in your voice and your interpretation of it. As always - thank you for the music, sir :)
Hi Slap. I'll do it in the tavern song series. I like all those Robin Hood ballads.
@@SeanDagher Fantastic :)
can you please start uploading these to spotify?
I don't want to say anything bad about spotify. I prefer to say that I deal with Bandcamp, which treats musicians very fairly. You can get all of the songs for streaming and downloading at: seandagher.bandcamp.com
