- I've got a new seatbox and I've swapped from Preston Innovations most expensive box ever to the CHEAPEST box! But why? Let's find out!
I have been fortunate to work in the angling trade for over a decade now and started working on Match Fishing Magazine in 2010. This eventually lead to becoming the Editor of the magazine. This was a fantastic stage of life and I got to work with and learn from the very best match anglers around. Anglers such as Steve Ringer, Alan Scotthorne, Will Raison, Lee Kerry, Bob Nudd, Rob Wootton and many many more!
My next role and current occupation is working as a videographer for tackle giant PRESTON INNOVATIONS & SONUBAITS!
This has been a revelation in my life and I now not only get to film with Des Shipp, Andy Findlay, Andy Power, Michael Buchwalder, Lee Kerry to name just a few! But I also get to work on the product development side of things. This means working closely with the product development team the help give constructive input into some amazing products!
My primary focus with the channel is to produce light-hearted and informative fishing videos that give you some genuine advice to help you catch more fish. Match fishing and match fishing techniques are the main focus but more recently I’ve also been enjoying some tremendous river fishing for specimen sized chub and perch!
This wide range of fishing techniques and styles mean there really is something for everyone to enjoy on my channel :)

All the boxs should come with a deep base as standard, come on all tackle companys start doing this you WILL attract more sales in the long run.
They just don't suit the station boxes really.
@@MatchFishingFilms hi i have the new inception which i love but to pay extra for the base unit was a kick to the bollocks tbf. Great box however i dont know if this has come up but it has a major flaw to the design, the shoulder strap can and has got stuck in the foot plate release tabs causeing one to break off. I found this out myself. You have to make sure its not snagged before picking it up. I would love to hear back from you on this.
@@ryanogden5895 the deep base I have??? That's fixed to the box?
@@MatchFishingFilms no mate ive seen that one. Im meaning the new inception box. I fancyd sumat new at the time knowing about the box you had but fancyed a change in looks. On the new inception its the tabs what you pull out n turn what get snagged and break. Im not pulling down this box as its great but it could be something you may need to look at in the future releases
@@ryanogden5895 no I'm wondering about the deep base that's all
Great video, I’ve had my inception box for a year now, I don’t think I would ever change it. Although I may upgrade the seat/cushion for a gel one sometime in the future. If your a big lad/lass the foam will compress overtime with use. As you said most accessory attachments come with inserts which are no trouble and you can interchange your seat stack system for different situations/venues. For what you get and what you can do with them they are probably the best value boxes on the market.
Great box love mine one modification I have done is taken the base off the seat and underneath you can fit 2 preston hook length boxes in the gaps. Use a bit of velcro to secure in place. More storage.👍
Joe, I’ve had my inception for 2 years. It’s absolutely brilliant. Granted the absolute 36 is made of a better material but for the price, weight and practicality it’s first class.
Added an extra draw and sadly had to purchase 2 fully telescopic legs as they don’t come as standard.
This is the box I've had for over a year. I can't believe it's not been talked about more. Happy to see you covering it :)
Glad it's been good for you
I can understand everything you said Joe as I was exactly the same before I retired my Shakespeare box a while ago as I carried most of what I needed in my box including 2 small side trays and then just took a small coolbag with bait and drink in and my rod holdall and netbag, I'm now saving for a new seat box and wondered if you would recommend the box you use for someone on the larger side weight size
I've recently got the inception 3D 150 seat box best buy I've made for me a few modifications to suit a tackle tart but love it, one thing I would like to see is a kaiser foam for the deep compartment to slot the reels in, I made my own and it's stopped the reels from rattling around and getting damaged,
Good video, Joe. Got the Inception 350. Mint box, light, solid and comfy. 👍🏽
Still loving my X6 from years back but this one will certainly be on the list should I look to upgrade.
Fishing? It's more of a fashion show these days. However, the best or most expensive gear does not make anybody a better angler. It's overpriced and has negligible impact on the amount of fish we catch. If your a match angler and you turn up on the bank with an old Shakespeare box, people will laugh at you. I must say one thing though, I have never caught as many fish as I did when I was carrying a quarter of the gear that I do now. All today's top anglers will eventually get older, and long for the days they only carried the bare essentials and still caught plenty.
I’ve got an absolute, I’ve found that same. Previous box was an a anti lunar module. 7 drawers, what an awesome box.
Exactly how I have my box .!! Cracking box with everything to hand and not very heavy .!! Great price also .!
I do like how the height is adjustable without paying about with your stacking system. I think we are all guilty of tackle overkill. Great video Joe
Oh it was getting too much for me 🤣
@@MatchFishingFilms class man would love a days fishing with you 🌟
What a win last night that has warmed the heart
Have one of these boxes joe I think there absolutely brilliant like you said loads of room I also bought the 360 chair which when fishing the margins is brilliant just swivel around great when you've had 4 back operations
Sounds ideal for you Andy 👍👍👍
Been using my SL30 for near four years now! Just added a 26mm tray for winders. Plenty of space for everything and it's lighter and smaller than my old Space Station. I cannot fault it at all.
had my inception about 3 seasons now. upgraded with extra deep drawer unit as per yours. fantastic product. i have fitted a cut down accessory bar across the back legs to help balance on a non-preston trolley. I wish you did an optional bar for the back for this very reason. great box though.
I've just got some adaptors
I'll do a video of the set up when I've got them sorted
Thanks for the video Joe, looks a great box! I like the winder idea too.
Im just wondering if my German made Vuctis Treeshk kits will fit? I’m sure they will. Thanks again Joe.
Laurie
It's a great box I love mine after a year or so of use
Hi Joe. Perfect timing with this video. I’ve found out today that I have lost one of the bottom feet out of the extending legs without noticing. Is this available as a spare from Preston or do you need to buy the whole leg
I understand your way of thinking. Now as my fishing has changed to pleasure oriented I literally have a side tray, two pull out front drawers and one very deep drawer. Bait, side try, food n drink go in a carryall with l/net. If I could get a double deep box I could loose that carryall as well I’m sure lol.
Great boxes
Well done Joe I couldn't agree more, I got rid of my Matrix and went back to Daiwa D75 sb.. Much lighter fits all bits, happy days. ....
Great Vid, I have had an Inception for a while now, However now that i cannot drive (eyesight issues). I have had to downsize to to a smaller backpack style one. Can you consider doing a vid in the future on these smaller type of Box/carry All's.. Trust me I would not wish any other Fishermen the same problems that i had to remain Fishing. .Thanks Mate.
Great video Joe.....well done!!!!
😁
May be preston should consider selling this box with the same draw configuration as you have. I feel this would make it more appealing to the market. Bridges the gap between the standard inception and the 150 version. Great video, as always👍
Possibly
@@MatchFishingFilms include six extendable legs and im interested for sure.
Don’t forget the ultimate accessory to fit larger kit and all the luggage is the van which is out of reach for most. Good to know PI now thinking more in terms of the customer and not just as consumers.
Used to love my old Shakespeare knock-off Leeda pond filter box, swallowed enough gear to not really need any carryall, and cause the odd wince from my back. Of course the downside to those style boxes was we only had spindly 16mm Octoplus leg kits to fit (still have my old mainframe XL tucked away actually).
Been trying to decide on something better than my cheap old chair for a few months now, the 3D 150's high on my list, but I'm distracted by these modern feeder chairs.
Octoplus!! What a game changer
I was given a daiwa plastic seatbox last year with octoplus legs. I've since upgraded it with attachments. I don't use it much as i tend to fish rivers but its great when I wanna be sat all day...Will pass it on to my lad aswell haha
Can you get a DEEP double draw side unit for the inception i cannot find one on line or is that 2 singles?
Looks great Joe. To be clear though , what is the ‘standard’ storage? Is it base unit, side tray and under seat storage?
Cheers.
Yes a single deep drawer unit instead of the double I changed it for
@ 3.36 - the "shot-getting-off-gadget" you're waving about is a LEVAPIOMBO (Italian by origin - literal translation is SHOT LEVER).
You're welcome.
I knew that 🤥
Great vid lookin at the inception seatbox I was wondering bc I was thinking about gettin it as my first proper seat box and I was thinking would u be not better off putting the the 2 extending legs at the front on back then extend all 4 up let front ones go down or is that not possible
I should have mentioned I've added 2 tele legs so all 6 are telescopic
This made perfect sense to me I changed my s36 to a daiwa d90 much more efficency :-)
The preston inception station..... Bestist box on the market 400 bucks, can't go wrong, I love my white one x
Glad you like it. I tested that one 🤣
Hi @matchfishingfilms, I just got a Inception SL30 and its mint!! Still yet to take it out on its maiden voyage... But thought I'd do some more research on set ups etc and found this video, one thing that puzzles me is the under seat storage, I have the draw and the deep under seat storage but not the part directly under the seat... is it a different model that you are showcasing in this video - Cheers in advance
I have the double deep side drawer unit on mine 👍
@@MatchFishingFilms Cheers for your reply dude but I meant the space directly under the seat/lid, you lift the foam seat off - you show it at 4m 13s in to the video any ideas..?
Nice one Joe
Would this box be ok for more wild fen drain type venues?
Hi Joe,
I like that clip (that snaplock that is attached to the seatbox leg) that you use to "fix" your the landing net, but I can't seem to find the right Preston product code for it.
I have the P0110027 (Preston Offbox 36 KeepNet Arm, Short), but this is not the same as the one that you are using.
Can you please tell me that Preston code or how to find it in some online store ?
I am not sure what the product is to be honest. It comes supplied with the tool bar and gripper roosts if that helps
I have done the same done for a H section Box lighter I am 67 years old it was getting too heavy for me for the conventional type boxes not tried it yet but it’s a lot lighter spa as well
Definitely much lighter
did you swap the legs to extendables ?
Have you tried putting the side footplate on it ??
Evening Joe.. A year on! But just trying to look around and seeing what's what regarding seat boxes and it dragged me here. Anyhoo...Fed up of dragging my Nash chair ( lovely and ...so comfortable it maybe so) round and tons of other stuff to fish the rivers, I just want something that'll get me comfortable on the bank, hold a fair bit of gear yet comfortable to carry if not using my barrow.. some of my viewings have led me to ...Preston Inception 3D 150, looks a decent bit of kit, holds loads....As I've no use for pole winders ( none of that stuff for me lad) it means a bit more proper fishing kit can be stuck in there...What you reckon?
It's a spacious box! Can get everything in that version. I can't fault my box one bit
@@MatchFishingFilms ...buying it now......and...looking at accessories too!...cheers pal.
Nu fish side trays and attachments...just to add some colour and go fast stripes
I am still using the original BOSS box, super heavy, but I could rent it out to students it has to much room.
The one with the internal legs?
how comfy is the seat though?
I had a milo box that was similar and but heavy. Is this light as I hate using trolleys.
Very light! I’ve found it very comfy but I’m not the biggest guy
Hi Joe. I'm looking to purchase one of these but I'm abit concerned with how much weight it can take I weigh 17st and have other lightweight boxes start to slip. Will the box take my weight?
I think it would take it but an inception station would be much more stable
@Match Fishing Films brilliant thanks Joe.
Somebody local to me was selling one of those carbon absolute boxes, but for £1700 I would be terrified of anything happening to it haha.... I'll stick to the Inception station with an extra winder drawer and that gets everything I need for the day in it
I can't believe how hard wearing mine has been tbh. Same goes for all the consultants. Des fishes 4 to 5times per week and his was still good after 4years. Amazing really how good they are
@@MatchFishingFilms Oh yeah, not doubting they’ll be strong and robust, it's that nagging feeling of the £ weighing heavy on my mind haha.
@@the72inc73 yea its a boat load of cash 🤣
Got one it would be even better if the deep base was removable and the footplate was removable without dismantling the legs.
Hi Joe, I’m a short man at 5,4 ,would you say your inception box offers lots of adjustment with an extra tray, for people with short legs?
Yes because the frames rises or lowers you will be able to get it just right 👌
Finally someone speaking sense!
I made the same change last year, mainly because I lost the use of the company van and had to use my car.
I started getting home at least half an hour earlier simply because I wasn't packing stuff back into bags!
I don't carry my rollers in a bag anymore, what's the point?
After a years use without being kept in a bag, they're still like new.
Deffo an advantage. Both styles of boxes have their advantages though.
Likewise I bought two daiwa matchman rollers for $50, straight in carryall, were very heavily targeted by marketing half of which is stuff I'm now trying to get rid of, it's got ridiculous really but that's corporate business anyway to keep you buying and Preston are very good at it, they know their market. I bought this box and it cost me £110 to get it how I'd like it however I got the box and trolley for £250 and I do like it. Anyone thinking of buying one be warned it only comes with the mini base and a side drawer there's no under the seat tray. Thanks for the vid Joe.
I'm using a matrix s36 , rock solid but most of the time I leave my stacker at home so it just seems pointless . I put a rig rack under the seat in the un used space instead . I want a H - frame but I have not used one since the days when you'd stand on your footplate and the whole box would tilt over 🤣 . I hope modern H frames don't have this issue 🤣
No tippage so far 🤣
I’ve done the same thing but I got a second hand pi x4
Joe, hi mate, is there any science on why the front 4 legs are telescopic and the rear two are standard? Im thinkin of adding two more telescopic legs to have all 6 the same for total levelling up. Any thoughts on this idea?
Laurie
I changed my back ones for tele ones
@@MatchFishingFilms i shall do the same. Great box! Just ordered the shallow winder tray.
Do you know the item code for the 2 draw unit please 🙏 just to make sure I buy the correct one
Thanks 👍

Which is the landing net clip please??? What are they called for this box??
It’s a gripper roost head I think it’s called
Joe had my inception from day one of there launch would not swap it, love it. Just added another deep box & two shallow boxs perfect in every way 🎣🎣🎣
Brill
I have had one for a few years now, a good box but the clips and corners are wearing loose.
For the price, if my clips and corners were wearing after say, 4 years I would still buy another one of these boxes.
Get in touch with me, I'll put any commercial fishing tackle through its paces. . . . South of France.
Why didn't you just buy the deep box for your carbon and change to the double draws?
It would be way too high for me
If you decide to sell the carbon, (not sure on rules?) you’ve a buyer here straight away. One of my big regrets selling my absolute carbon!
I'm not allowed to and to be honest I'd like to keep it for old times sake 😄
Top seatbox. Kan ik iedereen aanraden in Nederland.
Nah) thanks. But in real life (not on the flat places), low and heavy frame give you an excellent stability. In Inception you will never get similar stability. Footplate have to have contact to all 6 legs on one level (even for 36th legs).
Asi box, indestructible and still the best around
Great boxes. Surely there is better now tho? It doesn't even have legs for accessories 🤣
@@MatchFishingFilms lol,it does if its the canal conversion type !!
@@MatchFishingFilms I've drill mine and have a short Octoplus bar on the rear right hand side and one on the side at the rear of the left hand side
Get back on a shaky with octoplus legs, full setup for £50 second hand, there’s just no need unless your an out an out match angler 😉
Btw what did you funk up to get relegated to promoting this one 🤣
That's not how it works 🤣
Are you spending loads of time in the gym. Your new box must weigh loads. Best of luck when you have a tricky bank to negotiate to get to the platform
It really doesn't!
I guess you carry everything on a trolley anyway so it doesn’t really matter does it
Tell the truth “ Preston aren’t selling enough” and you got the short straw.
Probably the best selling box we've ever made 😁
Been saying this for years.
Preston box’s are very poor since they had them made in china.plus putting so much in a box increase’s the weight.if I wanted to carry so much tackle I should put legs on mi wardrobe.
Sound
5 or 6 other bags to carry stuff that goes in a seat box?? Really?
Yea quite common for anglers to have several Eva pouches full of bits
@@MatchFishingFilms I am arguing that it's a bit of an exaggeration that 5 or 6 bags worth of stuff can go in a seatbox 😳
Okie dokie 👍
why? let me tell you why, because you got paid to do so ;)
Where the cheque then?
I have a Preston On Box had it for years and it still does the business
