I'm planning on becoming a marine and going into Pennsylvania state police after. The videos you've been uploading and the information in them has been helping me get a better understanding on what to expect and hearing it from someone who's gone so far in law enforcement makes this by far my favorite channel on UA-cam. Keep making videos 401 and someday when I'm in uniform I can do the same. Be safe out there man.

I was watching a program about the first FBI profiler and he said the suspect would be wearing a 3 piece suit. Well they go to arrest him and he's in his underwear, but he asked if could get dressed before leaving, so he goes and puts on a 3 piece suit! A photographer captured the moment too. Because this was a big deal they caught a serial killer. They knew all kinds of stuff about this guy. I remember watching Hawaii 50 the older one from the 60s and 70s, and the profiler didn't know anywhere near as much as they know today. Love your videos, keep up the good work and most of all thank you for your service.

I've got a question for ya: What's the difference between a sheriff/deputy sheriff and a patrol officer? As in differences in responsibilities, training, day-to-day, etc.
Owain Snyder atherosclerosis there is really no difference, it's just the area that they patrol basically. Police are in a city, Sheriff patrols the unincorporated areas of a county. Training/academy/police powers are all the same.

I know that seems very weird to ask but I long to be a detective. Knowing your academic background can help me get a gist of where i need to be as a student and maybe future officer.

I would say it depends on rank. Usually anyone up to the rank of Sgt. Is hourly (receiving overtime pay)
Anyone with the rank of Lt. And up is usually salaried
patrol level officers in my city are hourly. once u get up to sergeant you are on salary.
most are overtime payed. in my area salary is usually administration side only

How is a detective different from an FBI agent?
Le Godfather frog FBI had federal jurisdiction where as detectives only have local jurisdiction, FBI are the bigger dogs, they handle the huge cases, kidnapped children etc.
Less hair jell, more actual work.
FBI are more elite, FBI agents are based on large scale RICO-alike takedowns and long term (undercover maybe?) operations and large crimes suppression (such as terrorism) while local detectives may focus onto their jurisdiction's minor and singular problems (such as theft cases, street crime etc).
